Dratini, a pokemon that was once said to be so rare, it was thought to be a myth until someone came across one of its shed skin in the craggy waters near the Kanto region.
The first time Dratini was documented as a pokemon, it was a fisherman who found it. From what I read, it took ten hours for him to reel it in, and that was when professors and scientists logged it as a discovered species.
While looking into it, I’ve found that Dratini prefers to bottom feed in lakes, wide-bodied rivers, and cliffside waterways that are hard to navigate. These pokemon are said to shed their skin constantly and grow until evolution, some specimens are said to grow as much as six and a half feet.
When molting their skin, they’ll safely retreat to a cave behind a rapid waterfall to hide away from potential predators. Once its new skin is set, it slinks back to the bottom of the body of water they call home.
When Dratini finally evolves, it becomes a Dragonair. At this stage of life, they’re finally ready for a breeding period. A Dragonair’s clutch is usually only one to three eggs ever in their entire lifetimes, and they like to nest in sea caves, at the bottom of lakes, or the sea floor.
Dragonair has also been documented to be capable of affecting the weather, using its immense aura, channelled through the crystals that adorn its throat and the tip of its tail, it can create any number of weather effects like a dense fog to hide the location of its nests, heavy rain to steer poachers in wrong directions, or even intense winds that can cause ships to suddenly drift and wreck.
This pokemon has also been seen flying, despite not having wings. Its ears can expand and give it the capability of gliding on seaside winds, so more similar to how Wingull will coast over the ocean rather than proper powered flight.
When their hatchling Dratini are matured enough to leave the nests, Dragonair will take more time away from home too, flying along sea currents until they finally evolve into a Dragonite, known for their open heart and sense of freedom.
Dragonite are known as the “Embodiment of the Sea”, known for guiding shipwrecked sailors back to shore, rescuing drowning individuals, and capable of flying around the globe in sixteen hours or less.
Dragonite is also incredibly intelligent, similar to Lapras, scientists believe it can understand human speech, which is why some postage companies will employ a Dragonite, among other qualities. In fact, before technology saw an increase in use, Dragonite mailing services were the single best way for international connection to happen.
Very recently in the Kalos region, it’s been discovered that Dragonite has a mega evolution! Due to recent events, Kalos has seen a vast increase in energy, and crystals have started to manifest all over the buildings. This was where the new mega stone was first discovered, it was said to be found stuck on one of the external walls of Lumiose Tower. I haven’t seen it myself, but what an exciting prospect!
That’s all I was able to gather for this entry. See you next time!
