I was pretty disappointed about that.

When I started writing ads their price was based on size or the number of words.
So, I learned to explain the benefits of a product in as few words as possible.

I’m not sure what they’ve been doing since the early 2000s, yet suddenly they’re on a mission to protect the consumer from potential fraud…
Or any big claim…
Or false discounts…
Or coaching without a license…
Or fearmongering about the economy…
So, it seems, the wild west days of Internet marketing are coming to an end.

Appeal to the tendency to see everything as either good (us) or evil (them). Evoke paranoia and hysteria in them by convincing them the insane evil ones want to conquer and destroy them.
What will happen? You can get them to march off to war by the millions.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 – 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀.

Moreover the question is not whether it is better for one or the other, rather what benefits it brings for each one, since Digital Marketing is important for both branding and direct response. It serves the purpose of engaging with the customer to gain a direct response whilst adding value to the brand itself.
When it comes to branding, digital marketing is key in today’s business environment. A company that has a poor digital representation will struggle with maintaining a strong if any position on the market. Therefore it can be said that digital marketing is a key factor that contributes to a company’s brand image and direct response is a variable to measure in order to see the engagement of the customer and the success or failure of digital marketing efforts.
Of course digital marketing is key in direct response as well, as it is important overall. To provoke the customer it needs to be relevant, timely, credible and shareable amongst other factors (Kingsnorth, “Digital Marketing strategy”, 2019). These elicit a response and hopefully the response that was intended in the strategy. If so, the customer will either share a post, for example which will result in the company having earned marketing. In another context the customer might buy the product, if that is the intended outcome it will similarly contribute to a positive direct response and enhance the brand.
Overall it can be said that digital marketing is important for both, direct response and branding, and therefore it is hard to make a distinction. Digital marketing should not be disregarded for neither goal, branding or direct response, as it is a vital tool and in combination with a good strategy can greatly benefit any company.
