I’ve thought a lot about it because handling two accs is very very difficult for me as a design uni student but keeping the community safe is extremely important.

I urge other smut writers to do this as well🥹 there’s so many kids on cortisblr i realllyyy do not want them to come across smut AT ALL.

We know we have the mdni label but I don’t think everybody obeys that. so it’s just better to keep kids out of it. it’s kind of our responsibility because we all know kids don’t listen😭

hiii this is actually a really great question and not random at all, it’s good stuff to know!! there isn’t a single foolproof way to tell, but after you’ve read enough fic you’ll start to notice patterns.

how to spot AI writing by lovhyeon :)

—ai writing usually sounds fine on the surface, but like hollow idk how to explain. the emotions are more like just said instead of felt. you’ll see a lot of sentences that tell you exactly what a character is feeling without showing it through actions, dialogue, or specific details. a lot of the time it overexplains metaphors and repeats the same phrasing structure over and over.
—another big thing is rhythm. ai tends to fall into this very smooth, evenly paced rhythm. every paragraph feels the same length, every sentence has the same weight. human writing is messier. some lines hit hard, some trail off, some are awkward bc at least for me sometimes i just can’t end a sentence
—account context can also be a small factor. if it’s a very new account posting a lot of polished fics all at once with no history or interaction, that can add to suspicion. but again, new writers exist, and everyone starts somewhere. this only matters when it lines up with other signs.
—sometimes you’ll also notice formatting things, like huge spacing between paragraphs, which can happen when something’s straight up copy pasted from chatgpt. that said, some writers genuinely format like that on purpose, so that alone is not proof of anything. don’t assume based on one trait.
—also look for specificity. real writers latch onto strange, personal details. ai tends to stay vague. it avoids risk. characters can feel interchangeable, like you could swap names and nothing would change.
—that said, good punctuation or clean prose does not automatically mean something is ai. people have been using em dashes and oxford commas long before chatgpt existed. the fact that its a red flag actually enrages me
—basically, it’s about pattern stacking. if something has multiple of these signs at once, it might be ai. trust your reader instincts, but don’t turn it into accusations. awareness is good. witch hunts aren’t.

i am actually glad you bring this up it needs to be discussed. because while no, i dont use chatgpt and in other cases where people use it like for school i dont care for it—because that’s your own choice to fake your academics, but in FANFICTION?

the usage is obvious and for all the “writers” on tumblr that use it—and i mean COPY AND PASTE AND POST, it’s soooooo fucking obvious. you can use it maybe even for ideas or plotlines sure, but using it and claiming it as your own work is preposterous.

and honestly what really pisses me off about this whole thing is that good writing has suddenly become suspicious. like we’re deadass at a point where proper punctuation, intentional pacing, and clean gramma make people wary because it’s now seen as potentially AI, which is fucking insane to me.

things like em dashes and oxford commas are being treated like red flags when i’ve been using them religiously since seventh grade. i didn’t randomly pick this up last year. this is just how i write. it’s craft. it’s habit. it’s literal years off my life of reading and rewriting my own shit.

and yes, to be clear, i have seen more fully chatgpt’d fics than there ever should be. like, copy, paste and post. especially in the cortis fandom and even a bit in enhablr. not even an ounce of editing or soul or life in it. once you’ve seen enough of it, the patterns are painfully fucking obvious. flat emotional sentences, the same cadence over and over. people should absolutely be aware of what they’re reading.

writers shouldn’t have to dumb down their prose, strip their style, or write worse on purpose just to avoid being accused of using AI. effort shouldn’t be a liability.

but that’s exactly why this is so freaking frustrating. the flood of AI-written fics is making spaces like tumblr—WHICH SHOULD BE A PLATFORM FREE OF JUDGEMENT AND COMPLETELY REAL—less authentic and honestly kind of toxic. instead of learning to spot actual AI patterns, people side eye real writers who just… write well. it creates an environment where effort looks fake and mediocrity feels safer.

fanfiction is supposed to feel human. raw and relatable and just like… true to its culture. when that gets drowned out by fake bullshit and then real writers get questioned for having talent, it sucks the fucking soul out of the places that are supposed to be safe spaces like tumblr, ao3, wattpad, fanficiton.com, etc.

i know that a lot of the new writers in cortisblr may think it’s okay or not a big deal or not know that it’s a bad thing, so in a case like that, my statement would be to educate you, not shame you. and i hope that any writers currently doing this gain clarity and wisdom from what I’m saying because it does nothing but make this place fake.
