how to earn millions thru Condominium rentals in the Philippines
ALT[Reposted from my Apple Journal, Sunday December 21st at 05:52 am]
Just listening to it by itself, if you had no other context it is a word that sounds like a name, like a hospital. Yes, I was born at Omenities, but my friend from college was talking about “amenities”, as we discussed the brand spanking new building directly across the street from me.
Five floors, one bedrooms facing me, two bedrooms on the others side, ten units in all. Public rooftop, laundry and dishwashers in each unit. Gym facilities and parking for sale. Even spending over a quarter of a million doesn’t get you a free parking space in New York where parking is clearly a premium.
This friend had stayed for a couple of months in my apartment while I was on my sabbatical, she was fleeing some domestic violence, and my apartment was available, clean and rent already paid. She was saying my building was nice, but had no amenities. I know what she meant, well generally speaking, because I, as of next year will have lived in this apartment for twenty-nine years, and when I moved here, the only “amenities” were NOT being able to run the microwave at the same time you ran the air conditioner. Or maybe the amenities were the fact that we had a door buzzer with no intercom, and heat during the winter that bordered on equatorial climates.
[[MORE]]Looking back the real amenity was the fact that there were no whytes except for Steven in Two-C, the longest whyte resident in this building possibly dating back to when the building was actually owned by Black people. Steven was an effeminate gay man, and stating he was gay is important because he also struggled with mental health issues, and this building in this very Black neighborhood was probably all his welfare benefits would pay for. Even without definitive confirmation I know that he is one of those who has been on either disability, or some other kind of public assistance his entire life. It just speaks to what this building was, and what it is now.
All jokes aside, if I was talking about amenities for this building currently, other than the dishwashers in the back units that have been renovated, and the garden decks on the ground floor apartments, the real amenity is the neighborhood and all the improvements have have occurred over the course of my three decades here. We went from being a spot no one delivered to, or wanted to drive a taxi to. To having an over-run of Amazon, UPS and USPS trucks stopping by multiple times daily. I can’t think of the last time I was refused delivery of just about anything.
But with my lack of credit, following in my grandparents steps, I never knew a life of “amenities”, time for an explanatory comma.
In short, amenities are features, services, or facilities that go beyond basic needs to provide comfort, convenience, or enjoyment.
While a roof and four walls are “necessities,” a swimming pool or high-speed Wi-Fi are “amenities.” They are designed to make a place more attractive and improve the quality of life for the people using it.
I have made it clear to anyone who knows me, when I moved into this building and neighborhood it was the ghetto, and now its ghetto-lite, no, that’s not true anymore, all aspect of the ghetto are all but gone. With the exception of the building on my block that houses folks with financial and mental health issues, this hood is now an “it” neighborhood. We both had to check Google Maps when I learned the building kitty corner to my block now has rents as high as four thousand dollars. https://www.trulia.com/home/781-washington-ave-3c-brooklyn-ny-11238-2061288062?mid=0#lil-mediaTab
It was hard to see what the current rents in my building are, I think the front units which are basically studios are maybe somewhere between sixteen and eighteen hundred, where the back units which have one bedroom are probably two thousand dollars. My rent just reached one thousand dollars, I can’t even imagine what folks do to pay a four thousand dollar rent. I looked through the photos of the listing and you could have knocked me over with a feather because that building used to be ghetto as fuck, I mean that entire corner was problematic as hell with most gun violence and crime happening right within one hundred feet of their door. Now there were gyms, and concierges. I thought it was one of the new condo buildings, but no, this was rentals.
The mystery of why there were so many whytes out in the hood had been explained and I was still stunned. I can remember seven years ago these kids having a loud ass party on the roof of the building that now has five thousand dollar rents. There had been scaffolding up in front of that building for years I didn’t realize what it was hiding was all the internal changes. Truthfully, I didn’t know my neighborhood like I had previously there had been so many changes that happened literally right in front of my face that I didn’t even notice.
Now we have a building across the street that is selling two bedroom apartments for one point five million dollars. I mean you need over a quarter of a million to even buy the one bedroom, I can’t even fathom what that actually means. And I should have known with all the new buildings within one block of me that none of this should be a surprise, but it still is. So much of my world goes on inside of my four walls I don’t ever really take the time to see the changes afoot. I also stopped going out on the weekends over a decade ago, so avoiding all the new people is a huge part of me not noticing that I no longer live in a Black neighborhood.
Curiously I had wanted to live in Fort Greene, that was definitively a Black neighborhood having had folks like Erykah Badu and Spike Lee as residents, even Carol’s Daughter started right, there one neighborhood over. But I couldn’t even begin to afford those FG rents, so when the realtor showed me this spot and the price of five hundred and fifty dollars, I was sold immediately.
Now I can’t imagine living anywhere else, I mean I only went to Manhattan for the first time in like three or four years just to meet a friend because most years I have no need to leave my neighborhood, everything I need is in walking distance of me, Whole Foods, Apple Store, PC Richards, Best Buy, Target and Barclays are now amenities, and that is just fine with me. I don’t need a dish washer, and prefer to drop my laundry off, storage would be nice, but I make due with how things are.

“Looking for another Ballard/52”. Temperatura 15 gradi. Tutto bene. GENOVA

I saw that narrow pass and imagined myself in the waiting of a legendary fight like in a colisseum

“Looking for another Ballard/51”. Comunque: condominio molto “sovietico” in zona Corvetto/viale Ortles. Temperatura 15 gradi. Tutto bene. MILANO
