Clockwise 2025

It wouldn’t be a calendar year without popping my head into Clockwise a few times. This podcast from Relay is a fun mix of news and broader tech topics, and it’s more like just hanging with some of your nerdy friends.

I present to you the Main Characters in Clockwise :D I tried my hand at the 1930s Rubber Hose Style, and I like the result :] They live in NYV because that was one of the best cities to live in in post WW2 (the story takes place in 1955-1956).

Malcolm “Colm” Pluma is a talented and gay musician. Colm is upbeat, and light hearted. He’s enthusiastic about what he loves, and easygoing, via not sweating the small amount. He also really likes expressing his affection with physical touch (hugs, hand holding, just being close to the people he loves romantically and platonically) and with his music (like making a song for his friends, conducting music for special events, singing them their favorite songs in times of need). He focuses on his deep emotional bonds with his friends, and especially Jack. Because it is the 1950s, he is closeted, for safety reasons. He’s 23 years old.

Likes:

* Birds

* Piano

* Umbrellas

* Vests

* Jack 😏

Dislikes:

* Those weird cymbal monkey things

* Winter/Being cold

Jack Lepes is a talented and bi magician. He can throw cards like darts, do magic tricks with dimes and pennies, and knows sleight of hand. Jack is very unlucky in the sense of being accidental prone and a victim of circumstance, so he often expects the worst with a glass half full. He’s rarely disappointed, but rarely pleasantly surprised. Even though he’s pessimistic and extremely unlucky, he never lets that affect how he treats people. He still very kind, offering kindness and generosity to anyone who needs it, regardless of how inconvenient it would be. Because it’s the 1950’s, he’s also very closeted for safety reasons. He’s 23 ½ years old.

Likes:

* Bunnies

* Magic and cards (obviously)

* Colm 😏

Dislikes:

* Alcohol

Catherine “Cathie” Vulnus is a talented Black dancer. She’s optimistic with a positive mindset, usually seeing the bright side of things, focusing on the potential solutions. She’s quite energetic, lively and high-spirited. She can also make others feel better and uplift their spirits and atmosphere. She’s also steadfast, very stubborn in her efforts of dancing and she’s very persistent. Regardless of the racism she receives, she never gives up on her goal of becoming a well known dancer. She’s 22 years old.

Likes:

* Dancing (obviously)

* Cats (has a pet kitty named Caboodle)

* Dottie’s fashion

* Snow days

* Baking, but she sucks lol

Dislikes:

* Hospitals

* Smoking

Dorothy “Dottie” Ikkanezumi is a talented (they’re all talented) Japanese American Fashion Designer. Dottie has the gift of the gab, being able to talk up a storm. She enjoys starting up a conversation with people, and is expressive, willing to share her thoughts and feelings because she believes they’re important to discuss. Dottie is original, unconventional, and passionate. She’s very creative and intelligent, with unique habits and ways of solving problems that “deviate from the norm”. She is deeply passionate about her fashion pursuits to an intense degree. She’s also Romance Averse Aromatic Asexual, feeling little to no romantic and sexual attraction, and is particularly disgusted by the idea of her being in a romantic relationship, and romantic gestures make her uncomfortable. She values platonic relationships and friendships.

Likes:

* Fashion design (obviously)

* Mice and different rodents

* Cathie’s dancing

Dislikes:

* Rudeness/ Being rude herself

* Not having gloves on her hands

Clockwise and counterclockwise really don’t mean much unless you have context for a circular clock.

If aliens were researching physics they would have to come up with some other term of moving about some axis

Am I the only one who thinks that if you have knobs to turn on and off the sink, cold water should be on the right and turn clockwise and hot should be on the left and turn counter-clockwise to turn on?

Because when they both turn clockwise to turn on and counter-clockwise to turn off, I get stuck in a time loop, twisting them in opposite directions, wondering why the sink isn’t off.

It’s time

Some people kill it. Others put a stitch in it. But for most of us, there never seems to be quite enough of it.

Given the inscrutable nature of that thing we call time, it seems little wonder that the devices we use to mark it are made in the way they are. We say there are 24 hours in a day, but we only mark 12 of them on a typical analogue clock face, and we start the count not at zero, but at…
