Blacula (1972) dir. William Crain
Blacula 1972 Directed by William Crain. US.
Plot/Set Up: “An 18th century African prince is turned into a vampire while visiting Transylvania. Two centuries later, he rises from his coffin in Los Angeles and meets Tina, a woman who he believes is the reincarnation of his deceased wife.”

Released in August 1972, Blacula was one of the top-grossing films of the year. It won the first Best Horror Film at the Saturn Awards. And it inspired a wave of blaxploitation-themed horror films, including its own sequel Scream Blacula Scream in 1973.
The opening scene is set in 1780, where Prince Mamuwalde (played by the terrific William Marshall) arrives in Transylvania with his wife Luca to enlist the help of Count Dracula to help stop the slave trade. Dracula, played by Charles Macaulay, refuses. Instead, he bites Mamuwalde and seals him in a coffin. Then he locks Luva in the same room.
192 years later, a pair of gay antique dealers purchase the coffin for their store in Los Angeles. When they open it, they unleash Mamuwalde as Blacula.
