Y’all my horse is so good. So so good.

These are from the three days I rode this week. THREE.

After his last trim he was foot sore for a couple weeks, and even after it seemed to have improved I got on and he was very Not Sound. I ended up buying some Magic Cushion and packed his front feet with it for 48hrs. A day later, I got on just to see how he felt, not having high hopes, and he was the most sound he has been in the last two years. Like he felt good and was happy to be working and was borderline fresh.

That was Friday, and we did like 20 minutes of walk and a super short trot each way. On Monday I rode again, and he still felt good! Was not quite as forward, but still very good. We did a little more trot.

Then today I got on and we did like 15 minutes in the arena, almost half of which was trot! And we had a few moments where he started to relax and stretch and find his balance more. And then we went for a little walk outside with my friend.

Anyway, I’m so so proud of him and excited that he has continued to feel good. I just have to be careful to not overdue it and push him too much physically or mentally. Gonna try to continue doing a M/W/F type schedule.

Ride 7/?

Rode yesterday. Somehow a whole week after my last one. That’s definitely too long for keeping my anxiety at bay.

We did a little walk around the property with bestie, and Clarkle was perfect. He was a bit looky, but kept remembering that he was supposed to be babysitting Symbi and he held it together great.

Then we did brief arena work. We had a few minutes of really nice forward trot, and then he lost all steam and could not be convinced to keep moving. 😂 It’s so hard to tell when he’s conveying that he’s too tired vs when he’s reverting to lesson horse habits. Although maybe it’s all the same…

Attempted to try an eggbutt french link snaffle borrowed from a friend. But he immediately started gaping his mouth and rooting and trying to rub the whole bridle off. So I think he has very clearly informed me that we are Not Bit People anymore. Or at least not right now.

I’m fine with that, but it means there is no point in me obsessively researching weird fancy bits in search of the silver bullet. I need something to obsess over!

Anyway, he continues to be just such a good boy.

I hoped to draw something on my vacation but I’m returning so tired from the rides I might not pick up a pencil at all.

My trusty steed for this year is Paco, and I’m super happy to ride him without a bit
