Thanks for the prompts @notthesamesadgirl and @leotardsanity. I haven’t fully explored the second prompt and may go into it in more detail in another fic. Enjoy a pic I found on the internets of a creepy papier mache head, at the end of the story.

Grandpa gets creative

Anne walked past Tim’s study, at Gatcombe, but stopped abruptly when she thought she had seen something a bit strange. Backtracking to the doorway, Anne peeked inside.

On the floor, sat her husband, cross legged with their grandchildren and they appeared to be making papier mache creations. With his tongue sticking out, Tim seemed to be concentrating the hardest.

As Anne continued to watch she could see him holding up the strips of newspaper, before one of the children would cover it extensively with glue. Nodding his approval, Tim would then carefully place the newspaper onto the balloon. Anne’s heart swelled when she saw how excited Tim was when their grand daughter showed him her progress, on her creation.

While watching, Anne mused that he would have made such a wonderful father. Though it had been years, the pain of all those negative tests was still raw.

Anne always dreaded having to tell Tim that once again she wasn’t pregnant. He was always very supportive, but she knew how much he wanted children.

They had been trying for a while now, and as the time passed, it became less and less likely that it would happen. Tim had always said that it didn’t matter as he had two wonderful step children, but late at night, after all her tears had been exhausted, Anne would worry that it was only a matter of time before Tim found someone younger, who would be able to give him the family he had always wanted.

After Tim found her sobbing, late one afternoon in the stables, because of yet another negative test, he refused to let her take anymore, saying that if they were successful, then they would find out soon enough.

Anne was brought out of her reverie by her grandchildren’s laughter. Tim had obviously forgotten that he had glue on his hands as he had ran his fingers through his hair. With a quick giggle, Anne left them to it.

A couple of days later, Anne found her husband, once again in the study, but alone. He was very busy with a papier mache creation of his own.

“New hobby?”

“It was meant to be a surprise,” Tim admonished, “But since you’re here…”

Tim then proudly showed his wife, his creation. Anne was a bit puzzled at first. Seeing this, Tim explained that he had decided to immortalize his wife in papier mache. Anne wasn’t sure what to make of it, but she did rather like the tiara which had a horse like shape at the front.

“Hmm, I think you got the height of my hair, just right,” Anne chuckled.

Tim laughed. “I think that I might need a bit more practice.”

When finished, Tim’s papier mache sculpture of Anne, took pride of place on her dressing table.

Aw I don’t think he’d have a favourite 😂 we do see more photos of him with Mia, but I don’t think that means she’s the fave.
