i’d never seen a live abalone, only the shell (i hadn’t even seen the flesh part cuz i’ve never eaten one). turns out there’s a little guy in there & he’s a snail & extremely sticky. he’s a Haliotis rufescens (red abalone).

When you see an abalone shell you would think it belongs to a bivalve (making it part of a set of shells), but that’s where you would be wrong because it is a sea snail.

Abalone shell wraps. The top two are silver, the middle is in coated copper, and the bottom in antiqued copper.
In today’s I’m a lousy businesswoman, I’m not actually sure where the turtle swam off to. It’s not marked as sold in my spreadsheet, but it’s not packed in my craft show trays, nor in my backup trays I desperately need to clear out…
Hopefully I’ll find it someday when looking frantically for something else.

This little beauty is the very last one left of this design/moon cabachon. I plan to work on more moon jewellery but will be retiring this design.
This stunning abalone shell crescent moon cabachon has been hand wrapped by me and hangs on a cotton cord. It’s been packaged up and is now on its way to it’s new home. Safe travels little pendant. 🌙
