Tw: pet loss

So tired and full of grief today. I’ve been on the job hunt for a while and still no luck, at this point struggling financially and relying on loved ones to get through it. Then last night we had to euthanize a beloved pet who had run away from home and returned with an infection so severe that his survival was simply hopeless. It was profoundly difficult, even just to see our cat so sick. I’m feeling quite nihilistic right now just trying to push through it. Even a bit hopeless. But it’s no use. I’ll put in more applications- I just have to get a job going, and I can start picking up these pieces along the way.

Writers: If You’re Stuck, Tired, or Overthinking Your Story, Read This

Writing a book is exciting… but let’s be honest. It can also feel messy, frustrating, and lonely.

Some days the words flow.
Other days you stare at the same paragraph for an hour.

If that’s you, don’t worry. Most writers go through this.

Here are a few simple strategies many writers use to stay focused:

1. Write First, Fix Later

One big mistake new writers make is trying to perfect every sentence while drafting.

Don’t.

Get the story out first. Editing comes later.

2. Set Small Writing Goals

Instead of saying “I must finish my novel today,” try this:

• 300–500 words a day
• One scene per writing session
• One chapter per week

Small progress builds real momentum.

3. Read Stories in Your Genre

If you write fantasy, read fantasy.
If you write romance, read romance.

It helps you see pacing, dialogue flow, and how other authors build tension.

4. Get a Fresh Reader’s Perspective

When you read your own story many times, your brain starts filling in the gaps automatically.

That’s where a beta reader helps.

A beta reader can tell you:

• if a scene feels confusing
• if the pacing feels slow
• if a character’s actions make sense
• where the story really shines

Final Thought for Writers

Every great story starts messy.

The important thing is to keep writing and keep improving.

If you ever want honest, detailed feedback on your story, I work as a beta reader and book editor, helping writers strengthen character voice, pacing, emotional impact, and overall story flow before publishing.

Feel free to DM me if you need help with your manuscript, or check out my beta reading and editing services here:

Just trying to stay healthy and focused clear headed these days. Long walks, good music, black coffee, apples and peanut butter with some sea salt. Reading. As much as I can fit in my brain at a time. I’m more than halfway through pride and prejudice. Please recommend books that improves your own writing if you have them. Finding that right flow is tough. My brain just feels sluggish at times.

So like… does anyone else suspect their hormonal cycles are affecting their writing process? Sorry is that a weird thing to ask? I mean like getting moody right before menstruation, feeling fierce during ovulation etc- I’m femme NB with AFAB anatomy I confess and I definitely feel like my writing and whole vibe kind of shifts during different parts of my cycle. Sorry if this is a weird question again lol. It’s just been an odd thing I’ve noticed

I think it would be a really funny way to fight the maladaptive daydream demons by taking all the conversations I have in my head (i.e. the “scripts” I expect people to follow during certain conversations) and turn them into actual writings/prompts!

This could be great because:

1. It would help me to stop spiraling and putting expectations on people when I want them to say/act a certain way based off my own mental state

And 2. I wouldn’t have to come up with a prompt or scenario or idea to write about because it’s already there!
