Qatar continues to position itself as a global technology and events hub, 🌍uniquely blending deep rooted culture with innovation. I had the opportunity to attend Web Summit Qatar and spent an incredible four days immersed in conversations, ideas, and connections shaping the future of technology. 🚀
The scale and diversity of the event clearly reflected where the global tech ecosystem is heading. With over 30,000 attendees from 127 countries, Web Summit Qatar brought together a truly international community 🌐. More than 1,600 startups 85% of them international connected with nearly 1,000 investors, marking a 29% year-over-year increase 📈 and signaling growing global confidence in the region’s innovation landscape.
Across 427 speakers and 180 meetups, founders, investors, technologists, and policymakers exchanged ideas that will influence the next generation of products and platforms. The participation of 22 government delegations, many attending Web Summit Qatar for the first time, further highlighted Qatar’s rising strategic role in global technology conversations.
One of the most inspiring indicators for the future was the progress in inclusion: 38% of startups were founded by women, up from 31% in 2024 💪. This momentum points toward a more balanced, diverse, and sustainable innovation ecosystem in the years ahead.
A huge thank you to Paddy Cosgrave, co-founder and architect of Web Summit, and the entire Web Summit team for bringing one of the world’s most impactful technology events to Qatar. Ganhei um livro muito interessante na semana passada, do qual destaco a seguinte frase: “o melhor momento para comecar a investir na sua qualidade de vida eh AGORA; nao tem por que deixar para depois - mas existe uma tendencia a procrastinar essa mudanca de habito e sempre esperar uma pouco mais pela situacao ideal para dar o start”.
Acabei usando da mesma logica hoje num papo com potenciais empreendedores: falamos muito sobre cenario macro, respeito ao capital, o que esta acontecendo com as startups no mundo, etc. mas a grande verdade eh que tendemos a aguardar o ‘perfect storm’ positivo para efetivamente lancar o venture.
Tres pontos (pessoais) que eu acredito demais:
(1) seu venture NUNCA vai estar pronto ! nunca vai estar ideal, nem mesmo como ideia, nem mesmo como MVP, nem mesmo depois que for um unicornio;
(2) sua startup NAO SERA 100% igual a sua ideia original - muita coisa vai mudar, muito teste vai pivotar a ideia inicial, muita gente vai te ajudar a ir elaborando e rebuscando o plano inicial; e
(3) sua ideia/empreendimento depende MUITO mais de voce do que de fatores exogenos - e se realmente tais fatores nao estao sob o seu controle, nao perca tempo elocubrando demais. O importante eh comecar. Tirar do papel. Ligar a maquina e colocar o jet-ski na agua.
O “timing” exato para voce lancar sua startup eh HOJE ! O passado, passou. O amanha, voce constroi. Mas comece. Nem que seja devagar. O importante eh parar de 'overthinking’ e comecar a agir. Startups dependem muito mais de foco & execucao, do que de um momento ideal para se comecar.

Paddy Cosgrave. O futuro dos eventos, Web Summit, Collision e um sonho por concretizar
No 23º episódio do Made in Tech falamos com Paddy Cosgrave sobre o Collision (evento irmão da Web Summit que começa terça-feira - estamos a oferecer bilhetes) e as 100 startups portugueses por lá, a Web Summit e a incerteza sobre novembro e o futuro dos eventos em geral.
É o rosto da Web Summit, que teve um ano de 2020 desafiante mas conseguiu montar uma estrutura para eventos online que tem recebido elogios da América à Europa. Paddy Cosgrave (que nos falou a partir de Donegal, na Irlanda, literalmente no meio do campo) é o convidado desta semana para uma conversa sobre o futuro dos eventos e algo mais imediato, o Collision, evento irmão da Web Summit dedicado à América do Norte, que segue para o segundo ano totalmente online.
Falamos nas startups portuguesas presentes (são 100), dos estudantes portugueses convidados (2200) e em algumas das celebridades (a lista está aqui e inclui David Beckham, Nicole Kidman e responsáveis do Twitter, Facebook, Wikipédia, etc), mas também no investimento de Cosgrave na londrina Hopin (que valorizou 100 vezes mais em apenas 12 meses) e do futuro dos eventos em geral, bem como da Web Summit.
Em destaque: da Web Summit ao futuro dos eventos
- A incerteza em torno da Web Summit presencial em novembro (que continua a ser o objetivo), a palavra dada ao governo e o exemplo do MWC de junho (servirá como barómetro)
- As vantagens de ter parte da experiência online dos eventos antes e depois do evento presencial
- As tendências atuais (incluindo nos impostos às grandes tecnológicas e como pode prejudicar a Irlanda “mas beneficiar a Europa”)
- O futuro do software que alimenta a Web Summit e que já começou a ser fornecido a outros eventos - a ONU foi o primeiro cliente em março, na calha está a criação de uma nova empresa para desenvolver esta área para até 2025 disponibilizar a tecnologia a todos, como a Pixar fez com a animação computacional
- As vantagens do turismo baseado em grandes eventos internacionais nas cidades - mais qualidade e poder de compra e menos confusão
- A necessidade (e incerteza) sobre o crescimento da FIL, algo que faz parte do contrato assinado
- O futuro dos eventos no seu todo e a realidade aumentada (e como a nova realidade online pode ajudar os eventos presenciais, que “continuam a ser mágicos e únicos”).
