Fashion Rewind: Spring/Summer 1993

i also think most people working on the show, did not care about those ladies for real. tyra at times did not show true care for them. those who worked on the show didn’t care about the ladies’ body autonomy, their safety, health, or triggers. it’s quite disturbing to revisit all the things i’ve watched on tv as a kid/teenager. the ladies should have been protected more. there should have never been a case where any of them were assaulted, in a space to be assaulted, or be uncomfortable. those who worked on the show used the contestants trauma and assault for entertainment purposes, and that always made me uncomfortable. watching shandi back then, the rhetoric was that she cheated, but no, it was clear rape. also, as a kid seeing the photoshoot where keenyah gets harassed by the male models and nobody coming to her aid, confused me. even at a young age, I knew it was wrong. why didn’t anybody step in to protect them?
the people working on the show had an agenda and they were going to fulfill it no matter who it hurt in the process. they didn’t care.

literally not about to blame a Black woman for the beauty standards of white america, especially when she created such a ground breaking tv show that started the beginning of a new paradigm within the modeling industry. she knew what the fashion world was ready for and what it wasn’t ready for. if you look now, the modeling industry still isn’t ready for busty models, or models with an ass, or models under 5’6”, or Black models with long natural hair (that isn’t type 3 curls) in abundance. the modeling industry isn’t even ready for non ambiguous Black models, Black models of all shades, etc. this system didn’t come from this Black woman, it runs deeper than that. i’m not going to put all the blame on a Black women for preparing the contestants for what the real model world was like. a lot of people don’t understand that the early 2000’s was white centered, white skinny, blonde girl centered. i’m not about to blame a black woman while trying to navigate that horrid space. it wasn’t easy living in that time with those beauty standards. the root of the problem is not a Black woman, it’s the modeling industry itself, it’s white supremacist beauty standards itself.
also give some smoke to janice & the jays, cause they were there too.
*in my next post i talk about tyra and the tv crew’s treatment of the ladies…

😭 my brother asked me if she have friendship with will Smith before the slap at Oscar incident there, and if she did the same to her husband or other men there, would she slap him - I said she would never. I only saw her arguing on the ntm show with the models there, saying bad things about them for the era now I you saw that. I mean- maybe that’s the reason why people like will Smith got cancelled because Chris Rock said bad comment about his wife and her hair aka Jada Pinkett there, her cancer, hair, illness and stuff. I mean- my brother even asked if the n word for same black people using as friendly term on together as same person there,I said only you could if you were being friends together, some people don’t like that. I’ve asked chat gpt. So no .
Frrr !?!
Yessssss!!
Another Tyra shipper, yayyy.
I really want to write a Tyra fic but Idrk tbh.
Probably just gonna be oneshots, but I do have to finish some of my maphinz asks, I have about two oneshots to still right, plus I also need to add chapters to my fic.
I’ll probably get to it.
Oh and btw I’d love to hear your thoughts about Ayra x Tyla.
Tbh I don’t anyone has ever thought of Tyla x Ayra.
Oooh I’m gonna assume you’re a tyger, so for starters, you could listen to Girl next door by Tyla featuring Ayra starr.
It was an okay song but I need them to actually make a whole album together, like one single is not enough 😭.
You could also listen to :
You’re hired
Bridgertn
DITR
Rush
Hot body
Who’s dat girl
To be honest these are just my faves.
I low-key started shipping them after I saw another comparison post on X, and Tygers and Mobstarrs were already going at it in the comments over who’s a better vocalist.
So, as a Mobstarr, I was getting ready to defend my girl Ayra when I saw a comment about how Tyla and Ayra were probably always laughing at how their fandoms are constantly arguing. And then my Yuri obsessed rpf brain low-key started shipping them.
The concept of Alpha Ayra starr and Omega Tyla.
The concept of the Queen of Afro beats and the Queen of Afro pop.
The concept of a Nigerian Alpha and a South African Omega.
The concept of them having to keep their relationship a secret cause of their fandoms.
The concept of them fucking and not giving a damn about the fandom drama.
The concept of them giggling at another one of their fandoms dumb arguments on X while cuddling.
The concept of them having to keep distance in public, so no one would suspect anything.
