I wish there was more horror elements within the powers of the nine titans like how it affects the user’s body over time and other things. Just titan stuff as a whole + the ackermans being more delved into that Uncanny human but not completely human idea would be cool for them ackermans I think

See thing is… I already know that Joto changes his code name to Hot Spot. At some point.

So that’s kind of a dead giveaway… pun intended… that the events of issue #15 won’t have lasting effects…

Resumed some of my 90s Titans reading today.

I got in a discussion elsewhere that Titans teams tend to get more recognition when they use the old to introduce the new.

At the risk of a spoiler….

This team does that technically. While I haven’t gotten to the specific issue in my re-read, I do remember that there is a reveal about Omen. She’s actually Lilith Clay. (Idk who here knows enough current info about Titans to know that already.)

I find it interesting to realize that there really was an OG Titan on this team all along. But between Lilith being just a *little* more obscure, and having her attachment to the team start off as a secret… it means you cannot use the popularity of an earlier member to boost the interest in this team.

Which is a bit of a shame, because these are actually some fun characters with a good set-up and great art. (Rambles about the characters below.)

I don’t know jack about Ray Palmer, but he’s been (in-story) de-aged at the start of the book, and he’s dealing with the repercussions of that. So watching him try to order around a bunch of teens while wearing the face of a teen is pretty entertaining. (He’s also processing his divorce, and that is also entertaining.)

Toni/Argent has my attention the most, partly because of her personality and design, but also because I know she goes on to join Devin Grayson’s Titans later. She’s rich to the point of having a rather warped perspective on some things, but she cares deeply, and acts accordingly.

Prism is a like a cross between Impulse, Secret, and TV!M'gann in terms of origin story and personality. She was raised in a VR based on old TV shows, and had room to edit it a lot according to her own desires. And then she got a very rude wake-up call about none of it being real. So baby is struggling. Hard. Also her powers don’t let her wear clothes. This would have me sighing about 90’s male-gaze comic book culture, except the writing and art is more deft about it than I’d expect. It’s portrayed as something that sets her apart in a way that makes her sad, and her poses and style (when she actually tries to wear clothes) are less sexual than Toni’s, a character who clearly *likes* to dress a lil’ sexy.

Isaiah/Joto is the grounded one on the team. A middle-class, college-bound nerd who had the whole Toby McGuire Spider-man experience of his powers giving him abs overnight. He’s clearly still trying to process this among other things. He knows he’s the only remotely normal one here, but he’s way too polite to say it. He’s clearly sporting a bit of a crush on Toni, and if I’m reading between the lines correctly, it’s headed for reciprocation.

Cody/Risk functions exactly like Superboy on the team. Not only because of his invulnerability and strength, but also because of his personality. He is obnoxiously steeped in 90’s male-gaze culture. He engages in objectifying flirtation on autopilot. But his actions–and inner narration–show that he does care, despite his immaturity.

I get a lil’ sad reading Cody’s highlights, because you can tell that he’s meant to grow as a character. He’s the first to recognize how much Prism is struggling with her situation. He’s the first tell his mom the truth of his origins.

But I know that years later, Geoff Johns is gonna use him as a throwaway character after OYL when he needs to use some random former Titans as turncoats/villains.

I think she is doing the ‘look I’m so over you and not at all hurt by your rejection so I’m going to give you this entirely platonic hug to prove that I am completely over you and happy to be friends with you!’ thing.

And yes it’s still an invasion of boundaries. He did not want that hug.

People discussing that CLARK isn’t important to dick’s NIGHTWING mantle. People remind me of that animated movie people remind me that the dcu tl doesn’t make sense if it’s all connected and then maybe if it’s a teen titans it cannot be dick as robin (even thou i think the titans movie were postponned bc the tl is a mess) I WANT TO JUMP

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! This means so much to me, you have no idea. I haven’t written about these characters in a while but they’re always going to be in my heart and it makes me so happy to know that there are still people who find as much comfort and love in my stories as I did while writing them. When I joined the fandom, there wasn’t much to read, so I’m proud to have left something to enjoy for those who came after me.
