When designing new species (alien creature, dragon etc.) and deciding on its skin/fur pattern - it’s good to have some inspiration from real world. Apart from very beautiful and miscellenious patterns of colourful birds (obviously) as well as poisonous frogs - it’s good to also attention to some lesser known mammals, like:
I also love spotted fur in piebald squirrels or piebald birds but since piebaldism is possible in many different species I shouldn’t count it as typically “spotted” or “striped” animals😅 But they can look very inspirational nevertheless❤️

Damian totally becomes obsessed with making friends with corvids so they can quote “become his eyes and ears in the city” (he just wants them to feel safe around him) and freaks out happily (unbeknownst to his siblings) when they bring him random bits of trash and once (he was so vindicated he jumped up and down) a bit of evidence crucial to cracking a case.
