Each cover hints at something interesting.
First off, for Transformers, we have a woman (maybe the Baroness without her glasses, maybe not) in some sort of jungle. What does this mean? I don’t know, though I have seen some suggest that this may be how the Dinobots are introduced.
We have “Hawk” staring in a mirror with Zartan looking back. I’d bet money that we’re going to learn when and how Zartan started posing as Hawk, and if Hawk is even still alive or not.
The guy in the haphazard armor is most likely the Cobra-La Royal Guardsman (see the distinctive helmet and cape) Akronus, whom we last saw in Void Rivals with the Junkions. Akronus’ bio-armor had died, and the Wreck-Gar offered to make him a new suit.

While I will continue to criticize the pacing and hope that the format of the eventual show allows the material to breathe (again, this arc had Thundercracker’s turn, Miles Mayhem and General Flagg, Arcee being made Magnus, AND Elita’s Prime arc, which is a LOT for six issues), I do think that a lot of the issues with Elita Prime are a case of once bitten, twice shy. People have made no secret of their disdain for IDW’s handling of Optimus and Elita, and anything that doesn’t stick to the cartoon portrayal is going to be seen as Skybound going off the wagon. Funny thing is, there was a loud minority angry that it was sticking too close to the cartoon with more violence, and this is arguably a huge curveball to address that.
I am willing to hear it out for a few reasons. One, everything and everyone is guaranteeing Elita’s tenure as Prime will end in absolute disaster. This is going to prove Prime’s view right in the long run. Two, I feel like by splitting up the cast, we’ll get a clearer picture of what’s going on with Cybertron, which could be fun as long as it’s not too laser focused on that part of the story, since it traditionally has ALWAYS caused casual audiences to tune out if the focus on Cybertron was excessive.
I think that Kirkman has a place he wants the story to be, and a few points he wants to make, but now that MASK has its own book, I hope he doesn’t rush it.

It’s both funny and crazy to think that there are fans LOVING Megatron even after he brutally killed a cannibalized Trailbreaker while at the same time they are absolutely HOUNDING Elita-One for what happened after Skybound #30.

Now that Optimus isn’t Prime anymore, I wonder how the G.I Joes meeting with him will go.
Like, what’s the timeline here? Do the stories play out at the same time or…? Will they be meeting Prime or just Optimus like he is now?
I hope they meet just Optimus. Hound would be so surprised to learn the matrix has gotten passed on + that they’re no longer Autobots. Also imagine Dukes disappointment to learn that the Robots leader isn’t even their leader anymore lmao.

also like if the ppl who say this thought for another couple seconds they’d realize Shredhead was possibly made w both men’s and women’s sparks. good chance they experience multiple genders/being both at once because of that. not that i expect that much gender or multiplicity nuance from this comic (blow my mind, Kirkman) but yeah.

One last thought on Transformers #30.
If you think they’re flipping their lids now, I can only imagine the complete meltdown the fandom will have when humans inevitably start taking down the Decepticons. It’s happened in every series except IDW, Marvel (Circuit Breaker and the Neo-Knights, who were, for all intents and purposes, a mutant superteam in the vein of the X-Men), the various G.I. Joe crossovers, Dreamwave, etc, and everyone involved with the Energon Universe is guaranteeing it here.
Of course, there’s also a greater than zero chance (albeit a small one) that this time next year we’ll see The Visionaries or The Centurions in the Energon Universe, so it’s clear that the discourse is far from done.

I feel like the misogynistic writing should be acknowledged more in skybound. Old news ik but I rlly hated how Nya’s feelings were sidelined and the sexism during that specific season. It was always kinda bad in the early seasons but s6? Omgorsh.

This is what it liked to get introduced to Elita Prime in issue 30: going to this Vietnamese restaurant because they has this beef pho made in Ha Noi style from their the menu, which is a dish that you have been craved for a long time. But then, what you got was the Beef Pho made by US canteen….
Look, Elita being a Prime is something I want to see so bad. It’s something new and I do glad to see Optimus get de-Primed….. But why does it have to be at the cost of Elita’s characterizations??? What the fuck Kirkman is doing actually??? Elita-1 from his 6 issues just felt to unrecognizable to me. Like bro didn’t know what to do with her, so he just tossed her into the center of the backhole that was Optimus Prime.

Big developments in the Energon Universe.

Elita is now Elita Prime. Optimus Prime is now just Optimus (not Orion Pax).
It’s certainly a shakeup of the status quo. On the one hand, Optimus will always be Prime to me. On the other hand, I really want to see how Elita Prime will handle things on Cybertron (plus her alt mode), and, unlike some commenters, I want her to actually do a good job of it, rather than crash and burn.
