Just watched The Lady’s Companion, which is like a Spanish Bridgerton with a lot of comedy and subplots galore.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I liked this book more than I expected to. As an autistic person, it was really fascinating to read the perspective of an undiagnosed caretaker of a high support needs sibling in a high stakes environment like a zombie apocalypse.
I thought the book’s exploration of hope and truth and control was interesting and thoughtful.
And most of all, I found a lot of the descriptive language extremely vibrant and evocative in a way I haven’t seen before, so kudos to the author for that!
New vocab: 1
Choice Excerpt:
“it is not fair that she died. That was a stupid thought, what everybody thought when anybody died. But that did not make it untrue.”
Read if you:
-like books that heavily feature autistic characters
-aren’t tired of zombie apocalypse stories
-enjoy protective eldest/adorable youngest half-sibling dynamics
CW:
ableism, abuse, fatphobia, death, gore, child death, manipulation, unfavorable views of mothers in abusive relationships, use of the r-slur, use of the m-slur
