And with this arc9 is finished time to give my opinion on it before i start arc10 of course Spoilers ahead
Overall im rather conflicted there’s plenty of good about this arc but there’s plenty that pissed me off so to begin i think I’ll address some of the issues I’ve heard about prior to the start of the arc and see if they held up
The first is the claim that the heroes have massive plot armour and that al should have won and well kinda?
Make no mistake there’s definitely a lot of plot armour for the heroes namely petra who did not earn relevance as a main character this arc rather being forced into it her mind should have broke in half from the book of the dead alone and she definitely shouldn’t have been involved in everything that came next and the witch factor of tristitia perfectly countering aggressor mode
But plot armour wasn’t why al lost setting aside more theoretical reasons like fate being an actual force orcastring Al defeat the main reason al lost was because he fell into the same trap as villains like muzan
He kept squandering every advantage he had holding back letting people leave not removing obstacles not making the best use of his resources he held himself back till the heroes got a chance to take away every advantage he had
If he killed Flam garfil and ezzo he could have avoided Reinhard entirely
If he killed felt and rom the info about his authority wouldn’t have gotten out allowing him to keep his advantage against everyone
If al hadn’t shackled himself with a no kill rule from the start he would have won
Plot armour factored into it but it’s hardly the biggest reason al lost
Another thing that needs to get addressed is the infamous great reset and fellas do i even need to say it?
I do not care about it the story has been treating Subaru life as a tool since the start everyone was damn near brain dead im hardly going to begrudge petra and rem for making that choice since we all know damn well that if Subaru lived on in that timeline everything would have been worse for him with brain dead friends no hope of making Emilia queen petra who will live in suffering for the rest of her life because of the WF RBD was the only way this could have ended as something other then a country spannig life ruining tragedy
The thing i am not happy about is how everything about arc9 being deleted means it essentially amounted to nothing nothing developed nothing changed because it all got wiped nothing in particular happened with Subaru either since he had no clue what was going on beyond some vague understanding
So overall im not a fan of the great reset
Another issue i have is petra and how forcibly she was promoted to main character
i don’t care how smart or incredible she supposedly is she should have not tanked a book of the dead let alone the one where Subaru got eaten alive
She should have been a vegetable at best or had meli try and stop her from clawing herself to death the entire arc at worst she should have not been useful
There’s also the matter of everyone allowing her to participate in such a massive conflict when she really shouldn’t have been involved at all when her strongest spell is a flashlight in somebody eye
Yeah they let Subaru participate but Subaru has betty backing him and a reputation of clutching the most horrible situations perfectly what justification does petra have for being allowed to participate?
Petra has non of that they should have left her ass at home
I will let the fact they let her work a witch factor slide since she lied about the cost so she gets off scot free on that one
But im also not happy with how apprantly petra has enough of a chance with Subaru for od Laguna to consider this appropriate payment for her authority
I don’t like it it feels icky if you wanna give her a love interest mimi got a brother her age doesn’t she?
Now to petra credit she isn’t all misses this arc her named chapter is definitely one of the best this arc along with warlock vs witch and I predict that when the moment she becomes a true witch gets animated it’s gonna be one of the best moments in re:zero so she gets that
Another issue i have with arc9 is how tappei seems to forget how his own power system works and how poorly explained some things are
Ferris says in arc3 that he cannot heal mental trauma it’s a pretty big deal in one loop but he can suddenly do it for whatever reason
There’s also the matter of witch factors and authorities being different things and like what?
I still barely get that sure it answers certain questions but im not happy about those answers
The only thing i really like about this revelation is that it opens the possibility of all of Subaru friends getting their own authorities or at least those closest to him
There’s also the matter of the witch factor of tristitia that is poorly explained on so many levels i still don’t get how it works at all and im hoping that when the anime gets to arc9 we get a MHA style flashcard that explains this nonsense
How does it determine is what is adaqute compensation?
How did petra get the people of the capital to pay for her authority use they are hundreds of miles away?
Did hecktor have the same problem petra had with his witch factor?
I don’t get it the moment i think i start understanding this power i understand nothing again
A revelation i did like is the possibility of the witch factors being sentiant which would explain some stuff about how RBD was moving without input from satella or Subaru in arc7 RBD Likey has a mind of his own (and wants to be used which is probably why Subaru had horrible checkpoints without satella regulating everything RBD wants him to die as much as possible)
Another thing that annoys me is how tappei brings og rem back only to go back on it and shelve her again in favour of the crappier rem like come on!
How long are you gonna drag this plotline on already?
Just let her come back permeantly already you dragged this on long enough
Honestly my biggest irration is how this arc kept answering like 3% of our questions while adding 100 more questions which are probably not gonna be answered till the final arc
I don’t believe for a moment this story would actually end in arc 12 there is to much to do for it to end there and that’s assuming that the story never actually goes to gustko and finally shows us what’s going on there
Anyway bitching done i will now get to the stuff i liked this arc starting with it’s best boi the following star natsuki rigel ak Aldebaran
Al was definitely a highlight of this arc he is so cool even at his lowest his moments are going to be the rawest when they get animated
Honstly the entire Aldesquad were awesome alchnica yae and especially henkial and roy
Seeing henkial try to be the one sane man between an immortal time looper older then the world history a mind broken shinobi a brainwashed dragon and a sin archbishop was incredibly amusing unfortunately hes unlimited durability didn’t help him much there but he tried
I wonder what henkial plan would be from here seeing as Priscilla is dead and al failed him he will probably try and worm his way into the emilia camp like he briefly attempted to before (if it works watch Subaru straighten him up back into a proper father in less then a week)
Roy was moving like genuine demon he finally got some aura rather then being a fraud the biggest tragedy of this arc is the fact that roy best performance never happened
Henkial was also pretty cool this arc i really wanna see what’s next for him
I wish we had more of this team up it was so cool then again al is just waiting to be freed yae is waiting on him and henkial is around and roy innt dead yet so we could see them return
Otto was another MVP this arc being the absolute worst enemy any time looper could face in this world (with the sole exceptions of todd fang and Reinhard van astrea of course) harassing al to the point yae had to hit with a “from zero” moment to get him to overcome Otto
Overall i think I’ll give arc9 a 6/10 i don’t think it’s completely god awful but there’s definitely a lot of things that drag it down from questionable amounts of plot armour retcons confusing explanations certain characters being portrayed poorly thinking more about the royal selection then their kidnapped friend and more
So that’s it im pretty much caught up so I’ll move to the next arc arc 10 “The Land of the Lion Kings” saying this right now considering how much relevance undead had the last few arcs and stuff i heard about ferris currant problems in arc10 (who knows the technique) im really hoping fourier makes an appearance and meets Subaru he was the best part of EX1 and stole the show from the actual main character

ive been thinking and by been thinking I mean I went through some highschool notes as im packing and man I have forgotten some literature stuff like symbolism
now im trying to think of what the symbolism is in rezero(it is currently #1 in the brain) so its essay time : D
one symbolism that stood out to me was the books that Beatrice and Roswaal held onto and well like a book it has a story and we see their stories as season 2 plays but also a book is stagnant never changing no matter how many times you read it its forever the same just like how our characters Roswaal and Beatrice in each loop they remain stagnant they don’t do anything but play their part in the story it is only through Subarus actions in the final loop do they change, which is season 2s major theme, the books are destroyed and so is their reason for stagnation, Roswaal by force through Subarus bet and Beatrice by choice with choosing Subaru over her stagnant loneliness. Without the books they have no script to follow without the books they can be free to be themselves and we see that the change in their character is hard for them they want a script Beatrice substitutes her loneliness with subarus affection and fails due to Subaru enforcing change by denying her at times as seen when Petra takes her away to play, and Roswaal denies the change by betting it all on Subaru in creating his own script to follow once Subaru fails even once tho he does vow to be a valuable ally to team Amelia so no self sabotaging till RBD works it out like he was doing in s2 but once a fail happens he will nuke it all.
man I love Rezero I had to get the essay in me out I need to pay attention more than just the yeah that right there is another choose me reflection from season 1 or hey this time the rolls reversed in this return by death.

And with this the vollachia arc ends now ill say my piece about it of course spoilers galore
Overall i greatly enjoyed this it was a great arx there were definitely points that were difficult to follow what the hell was going on for me hopefully whenever the anime gets to this arc they manage the pacing better because this is extremely chaotic
As far as The usual suspects that were the highlight characters for me go cecilus stays winning while cutting stars and reversing his own soul being manipulated by himself but he is also joined by Al eugard halibel Vincent and sphinx arkiya and more it was a fun time plenty of characters got to shine
Sphinx was a great villain i think my favourite moments were her going full 200 suicides per second so she could find a way to escape the yang sword power burning her soul another moment i liked was her first meeting with emilia where she clearly shows her soul is the same echinda because one of the first thing she does upon meeting emilia is call her slur
Eugard was a fun time besides him being a badass it was also pretty surprising that even with his reputation he is actually a really nice guy (by vollachia standards at least) he is very polite and ontop of being the strongest emperor in history he is also the one that likes to dispense praise the most in all of history even to people he is so racist towards his magic curse literally doesn’t work on them trough pure racism also his time yorna is pretty sweet
Rowen was one hell of a time i didn’t see his gambit of Taking his own life to become undead so he could expand lives to become stronger rapidly coming it was cool
The funniest part about it was that despite all that reaching the peak of his ability putting the tips of his toes on the first step towards the heavenly sword
He still got no diffed by his deaged son who was injured and dead tired lmao
I also did like his relationship with cecilus it’s interesting
Arkiya my favourite part was definitely her transformation when she absorb the stone i can’t wait to see that animated
In regard to Priscilla end i don’t particularly feel anything besides pity for al i never really liked pricelia she’s not a likeable person in my opinion and i barely understand why everyone tolerates her in universe let alone why anyone (besides people who want to get stepped on) likes her out of universe but she had a fine conclusion going for her at going down in a blaze of glory on her own terms refusing to battle fate and instead embracing it it was good
also im okay with Subaru not saving her for a few reasons (besides her asking him not to because let’s be real no asks Subaru to do this shit she innt special) namely that she’s not his problem and knowing satella his checkpoint probably updated anyway so even if he went and tossed himself off the nearest building it wouldn’t matter anyway he won’t go back far enough
Although on the matters of me being annoyed with how arc4 lessons amount to nothing as Subaru tend to be punished for valuing himself would remain in place till arc9 and maybe beyond unless it finally shows Subaru choosing his own life as a positive thing that he isn’t punished for but well see about that
There was another issue i still hold with this arc besides pacing
Namely im really don’t like how it handled todd he got all this hype in arc7 transformed into a giant wolf finally we are getting a 1v1 between todd and Subaru two weaklings who thrive on their cunning and plans and allies to make up for their own shortcomings
Only for the entire fight to be one swing long and resolved by a Deus ex Emilia that was so disappointing all that hype for nothing all the buildup swept away like todd in the flood
It also doesn’t help that people hyped up this fight for me i expected an actual battle not this
I Hope todd shows up again to have a proper fight with Subaru to resolve things and lacking that i hope that when the anime reachs this arc i hope they at least give Subaru and todd a longer fight before emilia shows up
Overall I’ll give this arc a 7/10 it could have been higher but the chaotic pacing and sad conclusion for todd plotline or rather the lack of it deduct a few points for me
Onwards to arc9 “Light of the Nameless Star” and depending on who you ask either the best or worst arc in re:zero

Finished reading ex6 so here’s my thoughts
And with this the sword devil story wraps up for now at least till the day a mean eyed youth steps into the sword devil life
Let’s get into it
Vetol was excellent he really went for gold in the character development Olympics shame he didn’t live to share drinks with willhelm or see his grandchild but at least he got to pick the name
Kurgen was hella surprising both him being stride adoptive dad and surviving this story (i legit forgot regulus killed him) although it was kind of a missed opportunity to not end him when he gave willhelm the same words he’d give garfil decades later making them his final words twice over but i still liked kurgen he was cool
I think my favourite bit was his self awareness that he raised stride terribly at least he’s self aware enough to know he raised him into a mass murderer who joined the cult of satan herself even if he only did it for the benefits
And to be entirely honest when you consider how vollachia is (and that Vincent made them tamer at current times) kurgen probably was the best dad in vollachia regardless of how badly stride turned out the bar for decency is that low and i don’t know if that makes it better or worse
Stride was really interesting the sin archbishop of pride a man standing against fate with his wits and authority much like his (in at least one timeline) successor kind of makes wonder if pridebaru took notes from the previous bishop when he set lagunica on fire much like stride tried to
(He probably didn’t in highly doubt pridebaru bothered asking who held the seat of pride prior to him)
I also still don’t get why stride targeted grimm and carol this aggressively like goddamn he was jerkin those two around did his gosepl read “fuck those two in particular” when he checked it for instructions?
He would have won if he channeled all the energy he put into hurting those two into killing willhelm damn
His marriage also confuses me at first his wife struck me as a slave with Stockholm syndrome but then their death frames them as actual lovers so what gives was she just delusional or was stride a massive tsundere when on the job and that’s why he was such a prick to her?
Was he actually a half decent husband off screen?
(wait this actually made me realise if they genuinely loved eachother regulus probably hates stride guts for having a functional marriage while non of his wives would never love him and that’s so funny to me)
Either way i liked him shame it’s unlikely he’d ever appear again even in arc 8 with all the undead running around there’s no way enough of him survived to be resurected
Although granted it’s probably for the best his powers would be to op if he could just heal all the damage like most undeads do
Imagen if he had a battle of wills against Subaru trying to control with the rings his body collapsing as quickly as it heals trying to control him but Subaru will is just so strong stride is turning his organs into soup just to stun him
Speaking of tsunderes willhelm is always great a highlight of him was definitely briefly setting foot on the first step to the heavenly sword when faced with certain death it was badass
Theresa was sweet to even if she didn’t do much her time under the effect of the evil eye was cool at least
Overall yes this was incredible final chapter to an incredible saga if any ex gets adapted make it the sword demon stories they are the best exs and it’s not close in my opinion
Anyway this was a great story probably the best one of the trilogy 10/10
Anyway off to arc8 now im hoping to finish it relatively quickly so i could catch up to everyone and not have to worry about spoilers anymore

Ex5 finished here’s my thoughts
I give it 4/10 at best people hyped this to be peak but it’s not that interesting
The royal selection part was fun i didn’t really care for it i think it would have been better if it took up the entire ex instead of flying by it give it more time to make me care
Cecilus as per usual not even close to main character but is still the best boi
Shows up kicks ass call arkiya pdf bait earns pricelia respect refuses to elaborate and keeps kicking ass i love this guy
Lamia was a villain didn’t really standout the most memorable thing about her is her looking at 5 year old pricislia and immediately deciding “i have beef with this child now” especially since that child also immediately developed beef with her
It annoys me that al meeting pricelia doesn’t actually happen here i feel baited
Al in general kind of annoyed me in his parts to much focus on the loli arkiya and the curves she doesn’t have like dude your 30 and fighting for your life it’s not the time groomdebaran plus his general attitude annoying
I pity arkiya got folded by cecilus and burnt her bridge with her princess in the hopes of saving her i hope they get to make up at some point
Olbert weirds me out he feels so off compared to the sadist from arc 7 is he playing the part of the senlie grandpa to make people underestimate him or he genuinely just a nice old man treating arkiya like his granddaughter?
I chose to believe the latter it would be neat if olbert got some humanity
Jorah Pendleton was cool at least in his last moments despite being a coward and a weakling he stood on business against a divine general he couldn’t hope to beat going out like a true man of vollachia for pricislia sake
Gotta respect that
Yeah overall not much to add I’ll be moving on to ex6 the final part of the sword demon saga which i can confidently say now is the best part of the ex stories and it’s not close
