If someone tells you that punk idiology is not a real thing or that it’s just the music
that is the best way to spot a poser.
What I mean by this is:
You don’t need to have a shit ton of tattoos, you don’t need to have a billion piercings, you can listen to other things as well as some punk. That’s all fine. We express ourselves in different ways, as long as you’re being alternative and not conforming to what’s ‘acceptable’.
But thinking that there’s nothing deeper, that this wasn’t built off of understanding how deeply broke our system is, that this music wasn’t invented by a black woman experiencing the cruelty of said systems is a fucking poser.
Dressing like you’re punk but taking away all the reasons why it as a music and fashion genre exist is how the machine works. First trying to alienate, then trying to absorbe and remove from original context. That’s how you defang a movement. Colonization at its finest.

I’ve been curating an on-going bundle on Ravelry of patterns which are generally alt-fashioned. Personally I’m tired of how difficult it is to find stylish patterns that I actually want to make and wear and there aren’t enough curated collections for people like me who like to dress gothy but don’t want to look like I stepped out of a Spirit Halloween.
I’ve saved a bunch more patterns I want to include! Just need to make sure they’re not discontinued and sort them correctly, which is on my to-do list for today.
So this bundle includes fun wearables and non-wearables which put style and class first. This includes fashion styles and themes which include but not limited to goth, punk, cottagecore, whimsigoth, fandom (e.g. Tolkien, Hannibal, 80’s dark fantasy, etc), fairygrunge, rave/dance wear, as well as wardrobe staples which can be easily customized and styled to your personal aesthetic. Not everything included is literally meant to fall within a specific style, but were added because I figured other like-minded crafters might like them as well.
Patterns are sorted by type, more or less.
