Thickness Selection of Steel Coatings

Metal roofing sheets can be coated with different coatings: PE (polyester), SMP (silicone-modified polyester), HDP (high-durability polyester), PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride)

  1. coating is also a porous organization, water in the air, corrosive media will invade through the film part of the coating, resulting in sub-film corrosion, which in turn causes bubbling and peeling of the coating.
  2. Positive coating of 20μm or more can effectively prevent the invasion of corrosive media, due to the different anti-corrosion mechanisms of the primer and topcoat, not only the total film thickness should be specified, there are also requirements for the thickness of the primer (>5μm) and the topcoat (>15μm), respectively, and only in this way can we ensure that the corrosion resistance of different parts of the color steel plate is well-balanced.
  3. PVDF products require a thicker film thickness because they have to provide a longer service life.
