I basically just picked it up by watching heaps of youtube videos to be honest and experimenting… I watched heaps of videos on current web trends and spent lots of time on pinterest just searching things… But it was lots of trial and error… challenges I faced where finding the right elements like icons and images etc and working around certain requirements for different people when I proposed some things on freelancer.com… I think the good thing with learning the 5 main design trends / features at the moment personally are…
Minimalism
Flat Design
The use of amazing hero images which tell a story about what to expect from the business or whatever (I found a couple of websites with 100’s of amazing images for free let me know if you want them…)
hipster design (I love this one but don’t use it all the time)
Finally great typography…
Another thing which is IMPORTANT is Colour Psychology! Once you have an understanding of all the above trends you will be sweet to go and make what ever Graphic Design Product…
