on grief (5 months on)
everything changes once a loved one dies. a transformation occurs. everything is the same, except it is totally different.
how you do things and how you navigate life seems to completely fragment too.
something that has changed since my mum died is that often I am finding the things I am doing make not really much sense. irrational, I suppose; but not irrational. more like…intuitive, but not knowing the Why behind it yet.
no long term plans or long term goals or goals at all beyond this week, or today, or sometimes even in the moment (a sliding scale of wellness in this regard: how far ahead can I plan?)
but I live through the For Nows. things do not need to have inherent of purpose For Now, but all I know For Now is that I have an urge to do this For Now.
and I am finding that things I was doing “For Now” months ago suddenly have meaning again. even if only For Now again. I left a bag of things in the corner of the room for no particular reason 4 months ago and now I am finally looking at it again for the first time since. For Now. and who knows when I will look at the bag again. maybe next week, or in another 4 months time. or maybe it won’t be until I am moving out next.
who knows. no one. For Now. or ever.
for we really “Know” nothing and all we have is Right Now.

I’m reaching out today with a heart that’s a little heavy, but full of love. As many of you know, being a mom is my greatest joy, but lately, the road has been a bit steeper than l expected.
My daughter is turning 8 soon. She’s at that magical age where she still believes in every wish and sees the world in bright colors. She has been such a trooper through our recent struggles-never complaining, always sharing her last snack, and giving me the biggest hugs when she sees I’m tired.
I want more than anything to give her the birthday she deserves-not because “things” matter, but because I want her to feel like the princess she is, even when times are tough. I’m trying to raise funds for a small celebration and a special gift to show her that her dreams matter.

Mona is the daughter of Iranian immigrant living in New York. Her parents came over from Iran when her mother was pregnant with her and she was born in the Bronx. Mona grew up sheltered by her parents, who never wanted her to face the struggles that they had to face in Iran. She was aware of them, but she didn’t have personal experience until she went to Iran as a teenager.
Mona was struck by the amount of pain and suffering that her family in Iran dealt with. She hurt for them and when she got back to the US she decided that she was going to try to help others escape those conditions.
She went to school for immigration law and is working as a paralegal for an immigration firm while she works on her master’s. She also volunteers for several immigration nonprofits.
In her free time, Mona likes to sew and sing. She has a habit of joining in on flash performances in random places in New York.

Hard to believe that it’s already been 2 years since the passing of Akira Toriyama, who as a renowned manga creator who’s works have no doubt affected a generation or more, all for creating a lovable goof of a kung-fu warrior who is comparable to Superman himself (No Goku vs Superman arguments please!).
Fun fact! Bardock (Goku’s Father) was one of the characters that inspired my character Huntsman in the first place!
Hard to imagine that I still love the mystical genre of action & combat since I was 11 years old watching Dragon Ball Z “The Buu Saga” on Toonami. I hope Toriyama’s legacy works keeps on thriving and blazing through both official distributors AND dedicated passionate fan-works like Dragon Ball Z Abridged, Dragon Ball Multiverse, Dragon Ball Kakumei and so many more!
