Mistakes

I was surprised to see an article on learning from mistakes. It reminded me of my Lessons Project. Learning from mistakes leads to error reduction and more successful results/outcomes. As I stated in a previous post, I am interested in ways to reduce errors (Link to post: https://fahmeenaodetta.tumblr.com/post/693294329876365312/human-error).

Inferno
That’s another day to waste, and the walls are closing in–suffocating the life out of my feeble existence.
All I can do is rock on the floor, eyes pinned open, jaw slack, drool running down my chin as a shadow of unfathomable terror washes over me like a tsunami, tearing me to shreds yet again.
I have no choice but to cower, beg, and plea in panic… before I inevitably succumb to the blank abyss.
The questions of my fate turn to a dark haze of dissociation where naught can be differentiated nor discerned.
I’m spiralling ever deeper into the carnival of despair where all listen and mock with impunity and disgust.
My bowels churn and my head explodes.
All I feel is pain, as blood mixes with tears, and all hope is lost.
As enter this perpetual purgatory, I become a ghost–the villain in my own waking nightmare.
Breathing becomes difficult.
My heart races and tightens.
The innocent child within becomes enveloped in an orgy of gore and grotesque horror.
“How could you do this to me, Mommy?” the boy asks.
…and why did you go?
Time has stopped.
Doom settles in.

Walking out your Door
Have you ever simply walked out your door and decided to follow the alluring sound of crickets and bats? Rarely do I know where I’m bound, but the further the sound of engines become and the stronger the gusting of butterbees feel on my face, the clearer the text in my journal becomes. Why is it that I feel the least lonely when I find myself removed from civilization? If one really close their eyes and listen to the harmony of nature, the chaotic evil of man dissipates and the river of life becomes calm. The longer you sit, the clearer you breathe. Its as though your soles plant into the Earth below and you can feel the energy of the critters beside you and the gleam of the hazy stars above. From the the watchful buzzards nested atop the rocky cliffs to the mule deer grazing in the pasture, it is a blessing to be welcomed into this realm. Animals are unique in that their gaze causes relief rather than anxiety. The air is clean and the land is kind here. In the wake of so much turmoil, it is essential to allot time to stagnate one’s self like a tree and anchor your sanity to the universe. My only wish is that my beautiful woodland fairy were here to share these nights with me, but I feel her comfort in the breeze that dries the tears from my cheek. As I hang my head and pinch the bridge of my nose, I can feel her warm embrace around my waist on this chilly night. The adventure continues…

How Do I Find a Journal Article Editor?

When looking for an editor for your journal article, consider what kind of editing or proofreading services you want or need. For example, are you interested in basic proofreading (e.g., checking for typos or grammatical errors)? Do you require editorial services (e.g., language enhancements, structure, organization, etc.)? Do you need a subject matter expert to provide a review of your content (e.g., the thoroughness of your literature review, the accuracy of your statistical analyses, or the acceptability of your conclusions)? With these options in mind, it can be helpful to know what exactly you are seeking so that you find the right editor for your article. For your proofreading and editorial service needs, it is quick and easy to choose an Editor World professional to assist you. While it can be beneficial to find an editor whose academic background or work experiences align with your subject matter, nearly any qualified editor can assist you with your basic editing needs.

Once you decide on an editor, it never hurts to provide a copy of the journal’s publication guidelines with your manuscript so that he or she can help you to make sure your article meets all requirements. These guidelines typically appear under a heading called “For Authors” or “Submit a Manuscript” on the journal’s website, and specify the journal’s preferred style guide, word count limitations, and formatting requirements, which your editor can review to assist you in making your manuscript conform to these expectations.

If you need a subject matter expert, spend some time exploring Editor World’s wide range of professionals. Our editors feature a variety of subject matter expertise, in addition to experience in academic editing and publishing. Try going to the “Editors” tab and then filter your search by clicking on the “Academic” option before you search. If you have questions for one or more prospective editors, you can always send them a direct message through the website.

Journal article consultation services are notably pricier than the services provided by Editor World, but might be a good option if you require a high level of technical, methodological, or subject matter expertise and cannot find an editor with a similar skillset or experience. It can also be helpful to contact the managing editor of your target journal, or even a fellow researcher or colleague, and ask for his or her recommendations in identifying an outside reviewer. Whatever route you choose, make sure that your manuscript is in the best possible shape when you send it to the journal for review. An academic paper filled with typos or poor grammar automatically loses credibility, even if the findings are valuable.

What Is A Journal Article?

Journal articles are the most up-to-date and prestigious pieces of academic writing, usually in the style of essays or reports. They are special because they are published by experts, fact-checked and can challenge conventional wisdom. However, they do have some drawbacks too. They can be difficult for readers to access, they are written in very complicated language and they tend to age faster than books.

All journal articles are published in journals, which are periodicals, just like magazines and newspapers. Just like other periodicals, journals tend to have a particular subject (e.g. Nature publishes articles on science and technology). That means that when you find an article you want to use in your own writing, it is important to write down the volume and/or issue number of the journal, and also the page range of where the article occurs within the issue. On an article’s dedicated webpage, you can also find its “metrices” – these are numbers which show how successful a journal is. The “impact factor” is the average number of times the article is likely to be cited in its life. The “citated by” or “citations” number is the number of times the article has been cited so far, and the “social media factor” is the number of times the article has been mentioned on social media.

The most important thing to remember about journal articles is that they go through “peer-review”. This means that all articles in academic journals have been checked by other experts (usually two, but sometimes more), who both agree that the article is reasonable and worthy of publication as the latest word on a subject.

Articles are different from essays and reports in a few ways. First, they can be much longer than typical reports. They are edited by the journal editors to give them a more authoritative look. They also have some elements which are nearly unique to journal articles. They start with an abstract or synopsis, so that the reader knows exactly what is going to come next. Modern journal articles will have DOI (digital object identifier) numbers which never change, so that readers can always look them up in a central database.

What Happened to the Puritans?

Citation: Kidd, T. S.(2005). What Happened to the Puritans?Historically Speaking 7(1), 32-34. The Johns Hopkins University Press. Retrieved July 12, 2014, from Project MUSE database.

A.) What is this resource?

This resource is a journal article written by Thomas S. Kidd., a History professor at Baylor. This article examines what exactly happened to the Puritans after their religious practices were dated and unpopular to those in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

B.) Describe two-three things that you’ve learned from this resource.

Due to exploration of this resource I found out that historians do not know when exactly to pinpoint the “end” of Puritanism but there was a shift in Colony beliefs. Rather than religion decreasing in importance to the colonists there became a shift toward a “Protestant interest”. The Puritans no-longer were consistent with their religious identity.

After 1689 the Puritans became so interested in government and military that it didn’t make sense to continue to call them Puritans. The interest arose after the the British  were the successors of the glorious revolution after a century of war with Catholic France/Spain.

C.) How does this resource help you with your guiding question/s? If so, how?

This resource helped me understand what happened to the Puritans after the late 1600’s. The Puritan people were still alive and living in the Bay Colony, yet the practice of Puritanism was no longer desirable.

I choose to include this resource in my resource collection because it gave me insight into the end of Puritanism and the realization that although politics and government took relevance over religion, the Massachusetts Bay Colony was flourishing thanks to the Puritans.

"Whereas previous advice advocated delaying the introduction of solid foods until the infant's gastrointestinal system had matured, recent studies suggest that the introduction of solids from around 4 to 6 months may actually prevent the development of allergies." (Gamboni et al., 2013)

A review journal article by Gamboni et al., 2013, titled Infant feeding and the development of food allergies and atopic eczema: An update, provides evidence in the role of food exposure in the development of atopic eczema. While it is important for mothers to exclusively breastfeed, delaying the introduction of allergenic foods such as wheat, egg, and peanut, may contribute to the increase prevalence of food allergy.
