The next time you visited him, there was no show to watch, there was no cozy conversation by the fireplace or intimacy in the trailer.

No, the carnival was over and everyone was busy packing up. It was colder than previous days, the sky grey and gloomy. It seemed to reflect bobs mood.

You offered help with cleanup and there you were, taking apart the stage and loading heavy, wooden parts into a big container.

The shop was closed for the day. One of the perks of having your own business, you decided when it was open.

4 others were there, all unscrewing and stacking. Bob was also there, doing the most of all present, keeping himself busy.

By his demeanor you could only imagine how he felt. His shoulders were slouched, his eyes dull, smile yet to make a genuine appearance.

Even when he greeted you earlier that day, it wasn’t a cheerful moment. It was like he was a different person.

He greeted you tiredly, accompanied by a tight hug and a weak smile that looked more like a frown. You had figured he might’ve needed some emotional support, yet he seemed to tuck them away forcefully. Away from you to approach.

You understood, didn’t push, you stayed by his side in case he wanted to open up eventually. This was his passion and he had to lay it down for another year, having to go back to his regular life which you hadn’t even gotten to know.

Done with the stage, you two moved to his trailer, beginning to pack his things.

Majority of the time you both were silent, only speaking when you had to ask where certain things should go.

Once all suitcases were packed except for one, he excused himself, needing a smoke break.

You watched after him until the door shut, louder than you imagined he intended. Alone in the almost empty trailer, you let out a long sigh.

The heater had already been turned off for a while, it was cold in there, bright light making it look broad and empty.

It was noisy, everything. Each step followed by a thud and drawn out creak. The trailer did look old.

The wind blew through cracks by the window, making you shiver. You wanted this to be over with, you wanted to bring bobs things to his home, join him inside if he’d allow, and maybe try to talk to him.

Determinedly, you moved to the last things to pack, the contents in his closet, including the clown suit hung on the door. He didn’t want you to touch it yet, but now it was time.

You opened the closet, grabbing his clothes and folding them neatly. Dull fabrics, simple style, a few suits, he didn’t seem to find style all too important, you thought he looked good regardless.

Shutting the closet, you went to pull the clown suit off the hanger. For some reason, it didn’t come off. You tried moving the hanger off the door, the hook didn’t move. You tried sliding the suit off the hanger, it was like glued.

You put down the carton, using both hands to tug.

No matter how hard to pulled, even putting a foot against the door, it wouldn’t budge.

By the end, you were out of breath and sweating. Your eyebrows furrowed. What the hell was going on?

You looked to the trailer door, contemplating calling Bob in for help. It seemed like the worst idea.

Shaking your head, you turned to the suit and decided to try again. You grabbed two fistfuls of fabric and leaned back as much as possible.

The fabric stretched, the door creaked, you groaned.

Then, suddenly the door flew open and with it, you fell backward. You hit your head on the floor, wincing at the impact when you bounced off of it.

When you looked up, vision a blur, the inside of the closet was entirely black, a void occupying the space. Cold crept towards you.

From inside the void, two eyes emerged, distant, small, glowing.

You blinked at it, staring in bewilderment.

It stared you down, whatever it was.

Then, a voice. Low, deep, threatening. “The clown,” it said.

You swallowed thickly, sweat running down your forehead, “Bob?” You asked in a hush.

It hummed, growled. “Yes,” it snarled, “he was already mine. But you… you had to get in the way with your filth.”

“He’s… what?” You sat up, hands trembling slightly, “what does that mean- who the hell are you?”

“You’ll find out. Soon,” it said in a chuckle, a mocking, deep, humorless laugh as it’s eyes faded into the darkness, door closing on it.

You quickly got onto your feet, lunging at the door to try and open it again. “Wait- what are you talking about, hey!” You called out but the closet was sealed.

When you lifted your first to bang at it in a last ditch effort, loud thudding sounded from the wood, it was banging the door from the inside.

Through the gap and cracks, small drops of blood slid toward the floor.

Your eyes widened, you went pale. Slowly, you stepped backwards, dropping your fist, eyes not leaving the closet. You reached the door, back pressing against it when it opened and you fell backwards out of the trailer and on the ground.

Within seconds, bob was crouched next to you. “Hey-“ he scrambled to pull you up to your feet, checking the back of your head, “what are you doing- what happened?” He asked urgently.

Your knees wobbled as you were held up by him, your eyes fixated on the trailer.

He huffed and squeezed your shoulders, shaking you gently to get you out of it, “Y/N, you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

After a moment, you twitched, snapping out of your trance. You looked up at him and opened your mouth.

But could you tell him what you saw? How would you even word it.

Surely he’d think you’re crazy.

Maybe you were.

There really was no explanation for what just happened, maybe you hit your head too hard when the closet fell open, maybe you hallucinated.

You cleared your throat and shook your head, “no, I… uh, I hit my head,” you mumbled.

He blinked at you, taking a moment, “you sure did,” he said and took another look at the back of your head. There was no blood, luckily.

“You sit down, I’ll get the last bag and-“

You cut him off, grabbing his arm tightly, “no!”

He jumped, startled, staring at you like you attacked him.

“I mean…” you scrambled for an excuse, “I think we should finish up later… take a break. I… want to talk to you.”

He looked skeptical, tho a little less alarmed.

You frowned, “we haven’t really spoken much today, at all. I know this is difficult for you, I wish you’d talk to me.”

That seemed to distract him enough. He looked down at you, eyes growing sad and tired.

Everything he’d been pushing down, wanted out badly. Seemingly you were the first to offer your ear.

He huffed grumpily, “there’s not really much to talk about..”

“Try anyway,” you shrugged and pulled at his arm. Anything to get him away from that trailer.

Slowly, he followed you to a bench. You glanced back once, it made you shiver, knowing what you saw in there.

This wasn’t something you could tackle now, if there was anything at all. You still weren’t certain you hadn’t just been hallucinating.

Closely, you sat together, your hand on his thigh, tenderly holding and squeezing it. “You’ve been in thoughts all day. Care to share ‘em?”

“It really..” he started, you listened attentively, “I don’t know. Don’t mean to be a bum, honest. Just not an easy time.”

“I can tell. Don’t worry bout bumming me out. What about it is so difficult exactly?” You pressed, not at all satisfied with his initial statement. You could very well imagine, but wanted to hear it from him.

He continued with a sigh, “I just miss the circus, I s’pose. This as close as it gets, and now it’s over, no more pennywise, I have to go back to my regular life, my home, my job.” A pause, “I’m dreading it. This is what I like to do. And when it’s over, every time, I go home and I’m alone.”

The statement sat in the air for a moment. You mulled over his words.

He was so focused on how he felt in the past, he couldn’t imagine it being different this time.

“Alone,” you echoed. He looked down, almost looking ashamed.

“Okay,” you nodded then, “I understand. But this isn’t like always, is it?”

He looked at you.

“You’re not alone this time. I’m not part of the carnival and I’m not here for pennywise, for the show, or for anything else. Just for you. I like you. A lot. You think I’m not gonna follow you home and get on your nerves there?”

To your relief, that got a small, weak smile from him when he realized what he was forgetting in this equation. You.

“I know I can’t make up for all of this, what you like about this job. I can’t give you the feeling of being on stage or being loved by an audience, but… I’ll be with you. I can make you feel less lonely. Try to, anyway,” you breathed out quietly, moving your hand from his thigh to his cheek, now you were getting emotional too, “I’ll try to be good enough.”

When you looked at him, he looked utterly touched. His eyes were glassy, his cheeks were pink. He looked down, not managing the eye contact. Then, he nodded, placing his hand above yours. “You are. You’re better than good enough. Too good for me.”

You leaned in and kissed his lips, soft and careful, like you might break him, “don’t say that, it’s not true,” you mumbled. “I think we’re both just right for each other.”

He hummed against your lips, moving closer on the bench until your thighs were flush, “I’ll have to believe you then.”

The kiss lasted for a while, you weren’t in a rush. It was an addition to your words, it was the period, the signature to prove it sincere.

The world around you kept moving, the carnival workers were cleaning, the last visitors watched it get disassembled. But you, in this moment, stood utterly still, like time had paused, just for the two of you.

Eventually, you pulled apart.

It was quiet, or maybe you were just so focused on each other.

“We should finish this up,” he said and took your hand, playing with your fingers.

You looked at him, suddenly worried to the core. Still, you nodded, deciding there was nothing to be scared of, surely. You probably really were just hallucinating.

Hesitantly, you got up with him.

At the trailer, he opened the door and you stopped him. “I’ll.. go first.”

He furrowed his eyebrows but didn’t argue.

You walked inside and took a quick scan of the room. No trace of anything unusual.

The closet was closed, there was no blood anywhere. It wasn’t cold anymore either. The clown suit was on the floor.

When he followed in, he looked around like you did. He walked to the suit and picked it up, looking it over.

“Sorry I must’ve… dropped it,” you mumbled absentmindedly. He just waved you off, unbothered, and folded it into the suitcase before shutting it.

“That’s all then, I suppose,” he announced quietly.

There was nothing else to do but leave. The trailer would be picked up by someone else, stowed away to collect dust another year.

Together, you left. The door was shut and locked, he grabbed two suitcases and so did you..

He took a last look at the grounds, not contemplating much longer before heading off the carnival grounds.

The walk was quiet, you didn’t have much to talk about until you reached the main road. From there, you followed his lead to his home. Excitement grew in your chest, you finally got to see where he lived.

A few turns later, you walked up to a small house, which he dropped the suitcases in front of to scramble for his keys.

The house was a bit run down from the outside, it looked pretty old, but for the most part clean. There was a front yard, not very big and the grass was grown out a bit, but the porch looked nice and used.

Quickly, when he found his keys and unlocked the door, he disappeared into the house. You assumed he wanted to check the place out before letting you in.

The suitcases sat on the porch then, you waited by the door, refraining from peeking through the windows.

Not long after, the door opened again, bob emerging from it. He grabbed two suitcases, you the two remaining ones.

“Come on in,” he mused, motioning you to follow.

You smiled and stepped inside behind him, immediately looking around curiously.

The first room you saw was the living room and connected kitchen.

It was pretty tidy, clean enough, a little dull. The furniture looked to be more about functionality than aesthetic. There were pictures on the wall, no plants. It smelled like him, in a good way.

Most importantly, it looked comfortable and well lived in. The dullness wasn’t a bad thing, your home wasn’t overly decorated either. You wouldn’t judge him for this, or for anything really. You knew he was struggling.

You followed him up the stairs to his bedroom. The room you were most excited about.

The door opened with a slight struggle and a creak. He set the suitcases down, you did as well.

Compared to the living room and kitchen, the bedroom looked even nicer. There was a big bed, made roughly, multiple pillows. A big wooden closet, the windows were wide. His makeup table, which you assumed he used to practice at home, was organized well. A few lamps scattered around, a string light above the bed. Candles. You imagined in the evening, the room would be soaked in cozy yellow light.

You liked it, a lot. You hoped to spend a lot of time in there.

By the time you were done observing his room, he had already begun sorting out his things and moving them into their respective places.

“I can do this myself, you get comfortable,” he muttered as he hung up the clown suit first, to get it out of the way.

You did as you were told, sitting at the corner of the bed.

The bed was soft, a little worn. Already you imagined spending nights here, cuddling, waking up together, sharing breakfast, reading the newspaper. So domestic, so new, so exciting.

Other things, you imagined too. Just briefly, just images flashing past your thoughts. Spending nights more intimately, more privately.

For a while, you spaced out and imagined many scenarios, imagining a future of getting to know each other better, maybe even falling in love.

Oh boy. That was a step you wouldn’t take lightly, you already knew. Your thoughts were moving too quickly for your own liking.

Still, a nice fantasy.

Bob stowed the last suitcase in his closet, closing it and stretching his arms and back. It pulled you from your thoughts, eyes now glued on him, watching his long limbs stretch out, the muscles on his back move and flex through his shirt. Quite the sight.

He breathed out heavily when he relaxed, looking at you with a smile. He looked much better than earlier, less devastated, less hurt. There were traces, but they weren’t primary.

He walked up and sat next to you on the bed. His arms wrapped themselves around you, his head dipping onto your shoulder.

In the quiet of the room, you heard him inhale deeply, breathing you in. You blushed.

“I don’t think I’ve thanked you yet,” he mumbled against your shoulder, “for helping out today.”

You smiled and looked up, thinking, “no, I don’t think you have either.”

A quiet chuckle next to you, “thank you. Would’ve been much tougher without you.”

You hummed, sliding an arm around his waist and squeezing. Your head turned, lips puckering to kiss his forehead. “I agree. You’re very welcome.”

He kissed your neck tenderly, nuzzling his nose into your sensitive skin. Then, he ever so gently nibbled on it. There was no force behind his teeth, jaw barely moving at all.

It made your skin prick in surprise.

Before you could react or say anything, he lifted his head and looked at you with a small smile. “Would’ve loved to have offered you dinner but I got nothing here,” he said out of the blue, as if his little bites didn’t make you burn up.

You blinked at him, for a moment out of it. He waited patiently for the effect to wear off.

“That’s-“ you cleared your throat, “it’s fine. I guess we could go out to eat?.”

He seemed to think about it, “Mh. Why not,” he said, seemingly on board with the idea.

But then he yawned and you took a closer look. His eyes were glassy and lightly blood shot, he was pale, dark circles occupying the space under his eyes.

Clearly, he was incredibly tired. Which was more than understandable after the day he’d had. Both the physical labor and the emotional turmoil. Not to mention the whole week, with shows and late nights with you.

You hadn’t noticed before, it was like the energy drained from him within seconds.

Nonetheless, he moved to get up, tired joints not agreeing, yet he tried to force them.

Quickly, you stopped him. “Hold on,” you said, “actually… I think we should stay in. I’m pretty tired, I think sitting somewhere for hours gonna be too much for me,” you felt like saying he seemed too tired would backfire and cause him to push himself even more.

“I could go and grab some things quickly and we’ll eat here. That sound good?” You offered.

There was surprise, but even more silent appreciation in his eyes. He settled back into his previous sitting position and breathed out, stifling another yawn. “Well, if you’re too tired, we can do that, sure.”

You smiled and leaned in, pecking his cheek. “Splendid. You wait here, I’ll be back soon.”

Already drowsy, bob nodded and watched you get up. He slouched more, bit by bit. “I’ll wait right here,” he repeated lazily and rubbed his eyes. Looked like he was already mentally asleep.

How cute.

You predicted he’d fall asleep the second you’d walk out the door. Part of you wanted to stay and watch.

Maybe sit back, let him rest his head on your lap or your chest. Listen to his breathing even out, watch his body relax. Maybe hold your hand to the back of his neck, maybe on his head. Gently stroking, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath your fingers. Take your time admiring him, unbothered, at your own pace, from head to toe.

Still, you nodded, “okay, sweet.”

You left the room, then the house and made your way to the closest store.

It wasn’t far away. You picked out some nutritious groceries, planning a meal in your head. Luckily you carried enough cash.

Leaving the store with a bag in your arm, you noticed the weather looked brighter than before. The sun had emerged from the clouds, the breeze has settled down. It was nice out and you were grateful for that.

You walked down the street, thinking of the meal you’d have to prepare, thinking of the utensils you’d have to find in his kitchen.

Not far from bobs house, you passed a front yard with the prettiest flowers. Figuring you weren’t in a rush, you stopped to look at them. They smelled heavenly. Rich, fresh scents filling your nose. Sweet, too. They kind of smelled like cotton candy, you thought. Taking another sniff, they stared smelling like peanuts. And popcorn. You’d never smelt flowers like those.

Looking up, you saw a man by the front door. Presumably the home owner. He was quite short, overweight, bald, dressed in simple pants and a tank top.

You gave him a polite smile, “they’re beautiful,” you called out to him.

He was still in his spot, staring at you. For a moment, there was silence and a sort of discomfort came over you.

Then, he snapped out of it, a smile stretching over his lips. “Why thank you,” he said, voice cheery and friendly.

You breathed a sigh of relief, watching him step closer with a limp. In front of you, he took a glance at the flowers, then looked back at you.

“Say, what kind are these? They smell peculiar.”

He raised his eyebrows, “do you not like the smell?”

You shook your head, “I do. I’ve just never seen flowers that smell like that before.”

“Well, what do they smell like?”

Looking back down at them, you leaned in and took another whiff, wanting to make sure you weren’t imagining earlier, “like… candy. And roasted peanuts.”

“…and?”

You furrowed your eyebrows and breathed in.

Suddenly, your grasp on the groceries wavered, your eyes widened and you stepped back.

They smelled like blood, rotten blood, stinging your nostrils.

“Tell me, Y/N, what do they smell like?”

His face twisted, smile growing disgustingly wide, mouth overflowing with dirty saliva.

With a yelp, you turned and ran off as quick as you could. Behind you, the same laugh as you heard in the closet of echoed, following you. You hadn’t sprinted like this in a while, your legs burned and almost gave out when you reached bobs house.

Looking back once to make sure nothing was behind you, you opened the door, shutting it behind quickly. The bag in your hand was rustling, you were trembling lightly. A strong twist in your gut, physical dread.

Exhaling deeply, you tried your best to calm down.

You found your way to the kitchen counter, placing the bag on it quickly.

First, you needed to check on Bob.

You walked up the stairs hurriedly, opening the door with a creak.

When you looked inside, the knot in your stomach loosened a little bit.

Bob was still there, he was lying on his back like he had just fallen onto the mattress when you left.

His feet were dangling above the floor, still in his shoes.

But as you looked at his face, you saw his eyes flutter open slowly.

You breathed out and approached him quietly, swallowing down your fear. “Hey,” you whispered.

He looked at you then, groggy and sluggish. Still, there was a smile on his lips, “hey, you’re back,” he replied, voice rough and quiet.

Blinking away his sleep, he reached up and rubbed his eyes, slowly coming to.

You nodded and sat on the bed beside him. You debated telling him what had just happened, this time certain you couldn’t have hallucinated any of that. You weren’t that crazy.

At the same time, you didn’t want to alarm him. It was a stupid thought process of yours. This was something you shouldn’t keep to yourself, not if it had directly threatened him.

But how on gods green earth, could you possibly explain that without sounding utterly insane?

There was no rational way, was there?

Certainly, he wouldn’t do that to you, but a part of you feared to be put in an asylum, it was a possibility. And you knew very well what went down in those.

Before you could actually open your mouth and approach this dilemma, he sat up and immediately leaned into your body.

You held him to yourself, feeling how warm he was from having slept. He even smelled like pure warmth.

“I…” you swallowed, you struggled, you sighed, “I’ll start cooking then, yeah?”

You needed to tell him, but maybe not right now. You could do it later, yeah.

He looked up at you, almost lying in your lap, “okay, that sounds good, thank you. I’m starving,” he said with a appreciative smile.

“Okay,” you smiled back, as much as you could manage, “you stay here, I’ll call you down when I’m done.”

He hummed, “I can come and help,” he offered.

You shook your head and carefully released your hold on him, “no, you’ve done enough for the day. Happy to do this for ya,” you stood up and watched him lean back a little. Surely he’d fall back asleep, you thought.

To your surprise, he stood up, suddenly much taller than you again.

“Well, okay. I’ll be showering then, definitely need it,” he chuckled and pat your shoulder before disappearing into the bathroom.

You watched him, suddenly feeling a need to join him. You shook it off and went to the kitchen instead. Both of you had to eat.

CV Xin Việc IT Cho Người Chưa Có Kinh Nghiệm Cần Những Gì?

  • Thể hiện mong muốn phát triển trong ngành IT

Kỹ Năng Chuyên Môn IT

  • Java
  • Python
  • JavaScript
  • C++

Framework và công nghệ

  • React
  • Angular
  • Spring Boot

Cơ sở dữ liệu

  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • MongoDB

Công cụ phát triển

  • Git
  • Visual Studio Code
  • Docker
  • Linux
