tw: bugs

for months Ive been complaining about my clothes seeming to be randomly deteriorating and getting new holes or shredding almost as Im wearing them. I blamed the clothes being of poor quality, wearing them too roughly, the washer/dryer being to much, snagging on my pants buttons.

today i was reading in bed and saw movement out of the corner of my eye.

saw a lil bug. not unusual, I have pets, plants, and live in the woods. spiders and bugs are pretty par the course, especially this time of year. I kill it and make the mistake of looking up at my window.

just dust.

the dust starts to move. I keep looking.

more dust is moving.

I jump up and go over and

dozens of bugs are crawling around.

I rush to the bathroom to find something to spray to hopefully kill them on sight.

I spray. they keep moving.

I go to get paper towels to wipe everything down.

Now my moms invloved and ttruing to make sure theyre not termites (I assured her they weren’t. I just had a whole lecture about termites a week ago. she didnt care. which. fair) she says “those arent termites” “i know” “what are they” “annoying” I ID them as Carpet Beetles.

Bugs that like pet fur, old books, and natural fibers and are attracted to light even though they live in the dark.

I usually keep my blinds drawn because migraines.

they were on my window. which my bookshelf full of signed first editions resides underneath, my cats bed on top and my pile of clothes to be mended and crochet projects in progress lays alongside.

The larve probably came in last summer/fall. Spent the winter chewing my clothes, and molted when I opened my window last week to let rhe 3 days of 80 degree air in.

I didnt stand a chance.

I had to get all my books out and my mom was like “heres an empty room to put them in” and spread the infestation??? did the last 6 years mean nothing??? no, you wash what you can, toss what you cant, and quarintine everything else in an air tight container. That you then disinfect, move to a safe location, and disinfect again.

im now doing a years worth of laundry and scrubbing while dressed like those guys that clean hoarders homes for free while trying despererly that my itchyness is pschosomatic and not from the bugs rubbing against me (it’s probs both, ive had a weird rash for weeks that matches what the larve and beetle can cause in some susceptible humans.) I emailed my professor (who runs my counties extention program) for help because panicked research is bad research.

I really dont want to have to take all the pets to the vet.

Whomstever cursed me. can you undo it please. This is punishing my fur babies and thats uncool. 😭😭

Bring the earth back to its clean state
So that prosperity can never fester
Into a rotting infestation.

i have a better idea of how much i need to crowdfund, too bad it’s almost $2k because that feels like.. way too much to ask for. artemis and i have to update the post once he’s home from work and we can sit and sort through information. studio apartments that aren’t roach infested are fucking expensive ($2k is NOT just the rent, it’s everything combined. the rent is about half though). i hate how dirty and pest infested this city is and no one does anything about it. i still remember the apartment my bestie from calgary and i lived in there were roaches in our fucking utensils drawer it was a psychosis/ocd NIGHTMARE

Avoid These Common Summer Home Regrets

Summer months pose unique maintenance issues for homeowners. Maintaining interior comfort, exteriors, and being mindful of potential oversights in these areas can create unnecessary expenses and discomfort. Understanding common problem areas provides homeowners with the means to potentially avoid regrettable oversights.

Poor Temperature Control

The rising temperatures will reveal inadequate insulation, out-of-date heating and cooling systems, and how quickly rooms can overheat if there is no seal on the windows and doors. Also, thermostats set on manual instead of automatic modes will be the cause of increased energy consumption. Using ceiling fans, installing blackout curtains, and providing attic ventilation may seem like insignificant items; however, these items can greatly improve temperature management and overall HVAC system efficiency.

Rodents and Insect Infestations

Many insects and rodents begin to emerge from their hiding places in the warm weather. Ants, mosquitoes, and wasps are some of the many species of insects that find themselves drawn to your home through open entryways and poor maintenance of landscaping. A large number of insects and rodents enter homes due to cracks and gaps in foundations, ripped or damaged window and door screens, and improperly secured trash and recycling cans. Regular inspections of the exterior of your home and regular pruning and trimming of plants and trees surrounding the home perimeter will help minimize the possibility of pest infestations. Additionally, storing pet food and other edible products in sealed containers will discourage unwanted guests.

Impaired Water Quality

If you have an outdoor water feature like a swimming pool, you should expect to give this area regular attention. Swimming pools require balanced chemical treatments and regular cleaning to ensure the pool remains both safe and usable. Impaired pH levels, excessive algae growth, and faulty or clogged filter systems all negatively impact the usability and safety of your swimming pool. Most homeowners underestimate the amount of maintenance required to maintain the optimal conditions for their pool. A pool cleaning service will provide the homeowner with the peace of mind knowing their pool has been properly maintained. Regular cleaning services will help to maintain optimal water quality throughout the year while extending the life of your pool equipment.

Seasonal Clutter

As we enter into the warmer months, garages, patios, and mudrooms are filled with seasonal items, including pool toys, gardening tools, sports equipment, etc. When these items are not properly stored, they can create hazards by blocking walkways and creating opportunities for damage or injury. In addition to being a hazard, seasonal clutter creates difficulty in locating tools and supplies when they are needed. To prevent seasonal clutter from occurring, homeowners can store their seasonal items in storage bins, install wall hooks, and purchase outdoor cabinets. Homeowners can prevent clutter and keep their living spaces organized. The best way to prevent seasonal clutter from accumulating is to remove and sort through any items that are no longer needed or useful at the beginning of each new season.

Overlooked Drainage Issues

Sudden summer storms can overwhelm inadequate drainage systems. Clogged gutters and poorly graded landscapes often lead to water pooling around foundations. This increases the risk of mold, mildew, and structural weakening. Downspouts should extend away from the house, and drainage pathways need routine clearing. French drains and sump pumps offer added protection in areas with frequent rainfall. Many drainage issues remain unnoticed until visible signs appear, which are often too late to avoid damage.

Underused Outdoor Spaces

Backyards, patios, and decks frequently go unused because they are not prepared for the season. Furniture left uncovered, faded cushions, or dirty grills limit the enjoyment of these areas. Pressure washing, sealing decks, and installing shade elements like pergolas or umbrellas make the space more functional. Even small adjustments, such as lighting and insect repellents, improve usability without major renovation.

What did you do today?

I woke up and discovered a German Cockroach infestation in the apartment building. It looks like somebody ordered furniture that was infected.

I killed 21 German cockroaches today, which were of atleast 2 separate maturities, which means there’s more.

The rodents are back in my walls

Scratching and itching at night

Their claws always scraping the wood in my closet

I know they’re trapped as anything here

Running in circles, they go mad fighting to leave

My fucked up version of roathe, I think he’d have been better being more changed… And without speaking. Imagining a man who manipulated and turned many ears being rendered unable to speak… Forced to cope with rotting away. Stuck in a past left with only this brief access to a future he never belonged to. Goes nice with Lyon and Marie who are both disabled in a world that does not accept that they can live even despite their struggles.

Feel like it’s kind of a miss he wasn’t disabled in some way to affirm that idea as a disabled person! Love to see him come to understand even without the ability to do the same things he did before. He can still change and grow and do new thing and perhaps better things.

A story in several parts. 🦋🐛😭

But, IKEA and Mr. C come to the rescue! We should now be set up to be fairly bugproof, going forward. And any that do manage to sneak in should have difficulties spreading through the pantry.

I do have some history with both moth and weevil infestations hitchhiking in from the store, after growing up with my mom’s little food hoarding problem. Both at the same time, for a while. And she couldn’t/wouldn’t just get rid of that shit before it could snowball. It had been a daily issue for years by the time I moved out, and I am still SO DONE with that 20+ years later.

(We were not wealthy, to put it mildly! But if you truly can’t afford to replace the infested food, ffs at least HOLD OFF on bringing in more for the little fuckers to chomp their way through. 😩)

Anyway, we got some unwelcome flying visitors from a bag of rice a while back, AFAICT. My tolerance is very low, and I do know how to deal with this stuff. I I thought that was wiped out, but then I think more hid out in Mr. C’s gluteny pasta or something that I just don’t touch. That has its own compartment of a separate cabinet, and I just leave it alone. Other dry goods that might harbor bugs get cycled through a freezer quarantine straight from the store.

So yeah, I am not a food hoarder. I just like to cook and keep a saner amount of ingredients on hand. If it won’t fit in our pantry cupboard, we really don’t need that.

What was obviously affected went in the trash. Everything else is going back through the freezer for a week or two, and then straight into the new airtight storage. I am not wild about canisters in general, but I will use them to keep bugs at bay.

The previous batch that was already in there for more than long enough, cleared out to make room. Seeing the amount of condensation from thawing rice on that one canister I filled, it seemed like a good idea to let the stuff come back to room temperature and dry out before sealing it up in an airtight bin.

As for the setting there?

If those moths are out in the stairwell to get back into the food before I can seal it away? We’ve got much bigger problems! And it may be time to burn this building down. (Good luck with the concrete construction…)

I was willing to gamble that nobody going through our stairwell within the next few hours would be hard up enough for food that they would be willing to make off with shit like half-used bags of cornmeal and an open canister of rice.

But, Mr. C carried it back in on his way back from a 2nd IKEA run to get that bag full of bigger containers. (No doubt more than we need right now, but hey. That’s better than the other way.)

So, that’s now shut up in the bedroom instead, and I’m just hoping none of the horrible flying critters are also in there right now. Because they have been randomly fluttering all around, exploring for more to feed their squirmy little children. 🫠

@tetramoriumchronicle your asks are not on but I simply must know.

You are a lot of ants. Would you happen to be the ants currently taking over the mansion I live in? If so, can you stop. If not, could you tell the ants that are here that it is very inconvenient.

All the best,

Clown Lord.

MAJOR INSECT/ROACH TW

when i tell you this is how bad the infestation is in some of the units where i work, like… i feel so bad for this girl and her pets, this is terrifying:

EDIT: this tiktok creator is scamming, raised 45k + undisclosed paypal/venmo/cash app donations and has lied about/mixed up her story about being a minor and simultaneously 19 years old as justification for many things that don’t add up.

she claims gofundme deleted her fundraiser & account on August 13th due to failing whatever investigation they did after her fund was mass reported yet as of today 10/6/25, no one who donated has gotten a refund.

this might not actually be her house and just be a condemned property that someone she is connected to has been contracted to do pest control services for. this is a mess.
