After graduating from Hogwarts, Hermione and Draco’s relationship had grown to one of love. Surprisingly, his parents adored Hermione and invited her to everything. He would buy things for her, showering her with gifts that she didn’t even ask for. They even went to the same college because he couldn’t stand being away from her for long. She was studying to become the Minister of Magic and he was studying to become the Potions Master, basically the Potions professor at Hogwarts. He wanted to do it in honor of Snape.
Hermione facetimed Ron and Harry at night since they were at a different college from her, deciding to continue down the path of magic as well. But this would all come crashing down on January 1st, New Year’s.
She had come to Draco’s apartment since she didn’t see him the last night for New Year’s Eve. She knocked on the door incessantly before she used her key to open the door. It opened slowly and the apartment looked like it always did but things were missing, Draco’s things. Hermione called his phone and it went straight to voicemail, there was no answer. Her mind went to the worst so she called Blaze to ask him if he knew anything. Blaze didn’t know anything and neither did Pansy, which was surprising since those three were as thick as thieves.
She felt sick to her stomach as Draco had never done anything like this before. She left the apartment, locking it behind her and taking the subway back to her apartment. The reason she came to his apartment was to tell him that she was pregnant, they had been planning this since Draco had straightened out his life and they were both on the path to success.
But Hermione decided that she would raise the baby alone, that no matter what happened to Draco she still had a piece of him to remember him. His child. Ever since that New Year’s encounter, it had been officially 4 years since she had seen Draco. She had graduated college and was the Minister of Magic for 2 years running. Their child, Lavinia, was now 4 and she was thriving. She was at the top of her pre-k class and Hermione had this mother thing down to a science.
She would wake up, feed Lavinia, let her watch cartoons before she took her shower and brushed her teeth, get changed for work, do her hair, do Lavinia’s hair and help her change, and then leave the house to drop her off at school before driving to work. It was an especially busy day as another office was trying to pass a law that would allow Muggles to enter the magic world on a special visa. There was some pushback for this, the magic world, however progressive they had become in these future years, some were still set in their old ways.
Hermione went to her office and opened her computer, writing down some ways to possibly enact these laws. Harry and Ron had entered her office as while Harry worked for her, Ron decided to enter the family business with his brother but he would visit the office sometimes.
“What’re we doing for game night tonight?” Ron asked, sitting on her desk. Hermione rolled her eyes and leaned back into her chair, folding her arms.
“I suggested we play Clue but Harry said that it was ‘too boring’.”
Harry nudged her shoulder and rolled his eyes, “We’ve played that game a million times and I’m starting to think Ginny thinks it’s boring.” In Hermione’s eyes, Harry was the example of what she thought a husband should be, caring, and attentive, which is what Draco was like before he disappeared.
“Well, Lavinia is going to be with Pansy and Blaise for the night so how about we order in and all watch a movie instead?” Hermione suggested, checking a law off in her notebook. Harry and Ron nodded in agreement, shaking their hands to seal it. She thought they were ridiculous but they were her best friends, what could she do?

After work, Hermione had officially passed 2 new laws. One that stated muggles had to take a test to enter the magic world which was basic magic knowledge and they would be accompanied by a magic official if they were chosen. Another one was that the professors of magic would receive an annual bonus and a pay raise, for their hard work. She felt exhausted but straightened up and drove to Lavinia’s preschool, checking in to pick her up.
When Lavinia was in her car seat, she drove to Pansy and Blaise’s house. They lived in a simple brown two-story with a pool in their backyard, they had done good for themselves after college. Pulling up to the house, she noticed something strange, instead of there being 2 cars in the driveway, there were 3.
“Maybe they have a visitor,” She thought to herself. She had trusted Pansy and Blaise since they were the closest to Draco and they had changed after high school, causing her to grow closer to them.
She took Lavinia out of her seat and went to the front door, ringing the doorbell. Pansy opened the door and cooed when she saw her niece.
“Aww, Lavinia!” She cooed, picking up the little girl. “Good afternoon, Hermione. How was work?”
“It was okay, Lavinia was very excited to come over today,” She answered with a smile. But she heard a familiar voice coming from their house, one that was responding to Blaise’s question, it was Draco’s.
“Who was that?” Hermione asked, trying to peek over the 5’7 woman. Pansy was obviously trying to hide something and kept telling her that it was nothing. But it obviously was something when she saw Draco coming up from behind her. Hermione’s eyes widened and she immediately took Lavinia back.
“Hermione–”
“Absolutely not,” Hermione said walking back to her car. Pansy stood at the doorway while Draco followed after her. He looked exactly like he did in college, but this time he was dressed in a black and green suit, his hair combed over.
She was attempting to put Lavinia in her car seat when Draco grabbed her arm and begged her to listen to him.
“Hermione, please, you have to listen to me!” He tried to persuade her, his 6’0 stature towering over her 5’5 self. She looked up at him in pure shock, pushing his hands off of her and shutting the car door.
“What is there left to say? You abandoned me! You blocked me and didn’t even try to contact me! I thought your ass hated me!” She shouted at him. He knew he deserved the yelling, the cursing, the screaming, but it hurt coming from her.
“I know that but it wasn’t my decision. I had to leave you, I was holding you back!” He proclaimed, which made Hermione look at him funny. “You had dreams of becoming the Minister of Magic meanwhile the best I could do was become a damned Potions Master. You had big dreams and I felt that I was standing in between you and those dreams..”
She slapped him and pinched his cheek, as if she was his mother, “You’re an idiot, a complete fool! I didn’t care what you were going to become, as long as you were by my side!”
His eyes watered and he slowly went to his knees, tugging her pants. He was desperate, he wanted her back, and he wanted to be in their child’s life. He had recently come back from working in America as their Hogwarts Potion Master, somewhere where no one knew of his past. He had come back to try to apologize to Hermione but Pansy and Blaise accidentally let it slip that he had a child and that’s when he knew that he didn’t just have to make it up to her, but also their child.
“Please, Hermione… I can make this right with time.. Just give me a chance..” He didn’t dare look her in her eyes, afraid of what she would say. She looked back at their child from the window and then back at Draco, when did he become so pitiful?
“One day, with both me and Lavinia.” She conceded, her voice hard as stone. “And if you mess up, then God so help me–”
“Yes! Yes! I understand completely!” He vowed, standing to his feet and hugging her tightly. “I’ll get your number from Pansy and we can set this whole thing up, right?”
She nodded, “Yes, we will.” Draco had a smile on his face as he nodded eagerly and thanked Hermione profusely.
He watched her get in her car and drive off, waving until she was out of sight. Hermione hoped that she wouldn’t regret this.
