Minecraft update #2:

I FINALLY found apricots to make jam! I’m making a Jam Roulette by putting a different flavor jam in each slot of a dispenser in the Bi-kery. It’s causing a major expansion in my farm and orchard but worth it. (Also I always forget you can pick fruit and it looks like this)

Also, some drama- I tamed FOUR wolves and promptly got them killed after being ambushed by three bearsT_T but I ended up taming one and naming him Winnie. I built a divider between him and the unicorns but he promptly climbed over the one patch I left open, so I decided he needed a door and they are friends now.

Also also, I have the Corail Tombstone mod, and upon praying, received a Gemstone of Familiars and was able to resurrect a wolf! I named her accordingly.

I found a couple nifty armor accessories. I dont want them to break so I rarely use them, but I ESPECIALLY love the horns🖤 (The crown is from the Epic Knights mod)

people who completely pave over their entire garden and only have fake grass piss me off

because you would rather have a slip hazard hellscape of pure white tile and perfectly angular, never-growing patch mimicry of nature?

as opposed to the beauty of the world? the complexity of how it changes and grows? the possibility of putting colourful, vibrant plants amongst the dirt our world gives?

like okay then let your garden look like a love island set but I will settle for making my own sanctuary amongst what I was given

It’s an Ides of March miracle!

a photo of a botanical interests box. the logo is in the middle surrounded by images of plants ALT

The missing box of seeds (not to be confused with the first missing box of seeds that these were sent to replace) was finally delivered after being lost for over a month. Now to rework my seed starting plan yet again and decide how many eggplants I really need …

First plant orders of the season are done.

From Strictly Medicinal Seeds:

  • Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata)
  • White Sage (Salvia apiana)
  • Lovage (Levisticum officinale)
  • Self-Heal / All-Heal (Prunella Vulgaris)
  • Valerian (Valeriana Officinalis)
  • Western Mugwort / Prairie Sage (Artemisia Ludoviciana)
  • Temperate Tulsi (Ocimum africanum)

Technically I managed to find Western Mugwort (Artemisia ludoviciana) at the Herb Festival last year and bought some. Unfortunately it didn’t do too well where I planted it, so I’m not actually sure if it will come back this year. So I ordered another one just in case.

From Grower’s Exchange:

  • Bee Balm (Monarda fistulosa)
  • Rue (Ruta graveolens)
  • Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis)
  • Lemon Verbena (Aloysia citrodora)
  • Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)
  • Chicory (Cichorium intybus var. intybus)
  • Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
  • Motherwort (Leonurus Cardiaca)

Now I just need Fireweed (Chamaenerion angustifolium). Prairie Moon Nursery has it, but it’s not currently in stock. So I’ve put myself on the wait list for it and hopefully it’ll come in this year. If not, it’ll be disappointing but otherwise fine.

They also have the Blue Sage (Salvia azurea) and Hairy Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum verticillatum var. pilosum) that I need. But I’m going to wait to order them until I know what comes up in the Hummingbird Oasis- as well as to see whether or not the Fireweed comes back into stock with them this year. If it does, I’ll order it with the Fireweed.

Otherwise … Save those three, plus a couple bags of manure I need to replenish the herb garden? That’s all my plants on my “need” list for the year- and I did it for under $200 this time! Which I think is honestly the lowest gardening bill I’ve had in like 5 years, ha. Usually I spend about $500 to start the season off. But now it’s literally whatever I find at the local stores and nurseries (and the Herb Festival) that I like and want to bring home to shove in random places like I do every year.

Small garden decorations that change the whole vibe

Spending more time outside lately and realizing how much small decorations can transform a garden or backyard. Little things like lights, wind chimes, decorative pots or small fountains can turn a simple outdoor space into a cozy place where you actually want to sit and relax. Funny how such small details can completely change the atmosphere of a garden.

Repotted all the peppers today! Very happy with their progress so far.

We’re doing a bit of an experiment with two plants per pot for some of them. I’ve been reading a few annecdotal accounts of them doing well that way, it’ll be interesting to see, and we don’t really have the space to keep everyone individually.
