I feel like I did an alright job of things for the most part, at least a little better at depicting like. what is both my ideal end place for the empyrean/feel is at least a little more accurate and sensitive and also is for sure kind of an extremist group in a canonical context (at least in khünbish/barqujin’s case, where she is ancient enough to remember Actual Mongolia and has an extremely rosy/skewed view of it) which I think is interesting

not entirely sure though if it would have been a better fic to have this not be from the perspective of 3 outsiders (nigel who is just Very English albeit with tamil ancestry through suthanthira, sallowe who is a londoner by birth but was adopted into the group after escaping slavery & chose to assimilate, khünbish who is technically part of the group but whose cultural norms and biases are extremely different due to the passage of time) but I did really like having that be a thematic motif

so who knows maybe I’ll try and add in a bit more of batbayar’s perspective or something since I think sallowe is close enough with him to merit a scene or two of conversation. esp in the context of like here’s what the emperor wants, here’s what khünbish wants (who is at least partially influencing the hybrean colony) and here’s what my actual vision for what this place/our continuing cultural identity as a whole should be. because that’s interesting and I haven’t touched on it that much? and it gives me an excuse to research and refresh my memory on stuff
