THE HECTIC EXPORT PROCESS & The Exhibition

Once the final composition was locked, I assumed exporting would be the easiest step. It was not. The display we were presenting on required a resolution of 7680 × 1440, which immediately ruled out most standard export presets. A lot of common codecs just aren’t designed with that kind of output in mind, especially when you want the image to stay clean across a screen that wide.

My first instinct was to try a more compressed format like H.263 just to test playback, but it quickly became obvious that it wasn’t suitable. The compression introduced visible quality loss, and at that scale, even small artifacts become noticeable. What looks fine on a laptop screen suddenly looks like it’s falling apart when stretched across a panoramic display. That meant I had to prioritize image fidelity over convenience.

So I switched to Apple ProRes 4444.

It was the right choice in terms of quality. It preserves color information, handles gradients better, and avoids the kind of compression damage that would’ve ruined the final presentation. The downside, however, is file size. The export came out to 24GB. For a two-minute video.

After that, the problem shifted from rendering to verification.

Normally after exporting, you just play the file and check if everything looks correct. But high-bitrate ProRes files aren’t exactly friendly with standard video players(Especially VLC). Most of the players I had either lagged, refused to play it properly, or struggled to decode it in real time. So I couldn’t reliably confirm whether the file had exported perfectly or if there were hidden glitches, dropped frames, or compression issues.

That uncertainty was honestly one of the most stressful parts of the process. Rendering takes time, exporting takes time, and when the file is that large, you don’t casually redo it unless you absolutely have to. Every export attempt felt like waiting for exam results.

What made it more intense was that this wasn’t just a deliverable file — it was meant for a very specific screen setup. If something was wrong with encoding, scaling, or bitrate handling, I wouldn’t necessarily know until it was displayed on the actual system. There’s a strange kind of anxiety that comes from working with formats you can technically export but not fully preview in their intended conditions.

Thankfully, the project was completely fine and worked exactly as intended. Seeing it finally play on the full display without glitches or quality loss was genuinely rewarding. After all the testing, adjustments, and second-guessing, watching it run smoothly felt like a proper payoff moment.

The Final out in the big screen

This stage honestly made me appreciate the whole team even more. Projects like this don’t come together because of one person — they work because everyone’s contributions line up at the right time. And in our case, they did.

YAY! HI-FIVES GROUP 4. WE SURVIVED!
