Yu-Gi-Oh Elementaria- Episode 1: Light the Fire
Yumi lay on the floor of a courtyard, knocked to the ground by a group of students. She was trying to talk her way out of a confrontation, and she was failing.
“Listen, I get you’re upset that you lost, but it’s really not your fault! I mean, you did play into my trap, but you didn’t have any way of knowing what it did, so you didn’t really misplay or anything, it was just, a bad match up is all, and there’s no way to get violent about it, I mean-”
“Shut it! You humiliated me in front of everyone here, and you’re gonna pay for it! I’m the second best duelist in this school, and I won’t have some newbie upstart try to take that from me!”
“I’m sorry, I really didn’t- wait. second best? who’s the best then? Ooo, can I duel them?”
A voice rang out from behind her. “That would be me.”
Behind her stood a beautiful woman in darker, punkish clothing. Yumi blushed.
“You must be Yumi Takunaga. It’s nice to meet you. And… I’d like to take you up on your offer of a duel.”
“Miss Kimura!” The hooligan clamored. “I’ll leave you to it, take this upstart down a- wait. Did you say… Takunaga?”
Kimura sighed, disinterested. “Yes, this is Yumi Takunaga, sister of Lumio Takunaga, the regional champion. Do try to keep up?”
Yumi got to her feet, somewhat unsteadily. “Oh… you’re… Kimura! I remember you! My brother used to talk about you sometimes, said you were a great rival to him. Gosh, now I really wanna duel you. Should we start here?”
“Let’s get away from the riffraff first. And Yumi… you better not dissapoint me.”
“hehe, I’ll try not to. So.” Yumi readied her duel disk and duel gazer. “You wanna go first, or should I?”
Kimura readied her own disk and gazer. “You can begin.”
“got it. I’ll start by setting the pendulum scale with scale 2 Unison Kinght Sunfire and scale 8 Unison Knight Glider. Then, I pendulum summon, my fire breathing Drakkon!”
“Fire breathing Drakkon’s effect allows her to deal 800 damage to your life points, as long as she doesn’t attack that turn. Then, I set a card face down and end my turn.”
“I see. My turn. I draw. Special summon Illusory Smoke from my hand by controling no level 4 or higher monsters. Normal Summon Illusory Mirrors, who’s effect modulates its level to be the same as Smoke’s. I overlay level 6 Illusory Smoke and Illusory Mirrors to build the overlay network. I xyz summon, my rank 6 Illusory Wing.”
Interesting… thought Yumi. Illusion monsters… and a pretty strong one at that…
“Illusory Wing Attacks! Its Effect activates! By detaching a spell card that serves as its overlay unit, it can turn any attack into a direct attack by halving the damage! And luckily, Illusory Mirrors counts as a spell card when attached!”
Yumi stumbled… 1500 was a fair bit of damage…
“I set a card face down and end my turn.”
“My turn. I draw… I activate Unison Knight Glider’s effect. When I have another card in my pendulum zone, it can equip to a monster I control, giving it the ability to deal 800 direct damage when it attacks. I equip it to my Fire Breathing Drakkon. Now… attack!”
“I activate Illusory Wing’s other effect- it can detach a trap card to negate an attack, and Illusory Smoke counts as a Trap!”
Yumi just smiled. “I activate the effect of my trap! Dragonfire darts! It lets me tribute a Dragon monster to deal damage equal to 200 times it’s level! That’s 1200 points of damage, coming your way!”
“I’m down to half my lifepoints… but your field is completely empty!”
“Not for long! I activate an effect from my hand- Unison Knight Torchbearer! When a monster I control leaves the field, Torchbearer can special summon itself and shift its attack and defense to match that monster’s! Now, my Torchbearer knight attacks!”
“Why would you do that? Unless…”
“Don’t worry, my brother didn’t tell me any of your secret strategies. I just happened to read the card~ Illusory Wing can’t attack or be attacked when it doesn’t have overlay units, but that doesn’t stop me from attacking directly!”
“But this will! My trap, Illusory overlay! I attach any number of spells or traps from my hand to an xyz monster I control. I’m attaching one spell… and one trap.”
“I call of my attack. Moving into main phase 2… I reset my pendulum scale with scale seven Unison Knight Trident. I pendulum summon! Returning from my extra deck in defense position, it’s Unison Knight Glider. With that… my turn is over.”
“That glider would cause me some problems… I draw! If I control an Illusory Xyz Monster, I can take level 6 Illusory Joiner and either summon it or attach it as a material… I choose to attach it!”
“I’ll give you a heads up- when a monster is attached to Illusory Wing, it can detach it to change the target of an attack. Meaning your direct attack strategy stops here! Now! Illusory Wing attacks, and detaches a spell to make it a direct attack! I end my turn.”
“I better make a move… I can’t take much more damage. I… draw! Perfect. I activate the spell card, first act finale! when you’ve got a monster on your field with 3000 attack, I can summon a monster from my deck with 2500 attack! Now! Rise into view, and light up the field with your flame of hope! Torchbearer Dragon!”
“Now, I activate Sunfire’s pendulum effect! Since I have a card in my other pendulum zone, I can equip it onto my Fire Breathing Drakkon, which means it gains 1000 attack points when it attacks a monster.”
“But I can just negate that attack…”
“Not quite~ that effect targets, and when Torchbearer is on the field, it’s the only card of mine you’re allowed to target!”
“But that means…”
“It means I can do this! Fire Breathing Drakkon attacks Illusory Wing! And now that it’s out of the way… Torchbearer Dragon! Let’s end this, buddy! Direct Attack!”
A blast of flame shoots out from the holographic torchbearer, and Kimura’s lifepoints dropped down to zero.
Kimura began laughing, softly at first, then a bit louder. “That… was the most fun I’ve had in a duel since Lumio disappeared from the competitive scene! You’ve got a gift for putting on a show, Yumi. Now… How about a rematch? I wanna see what else that deck of yours can do~”
Yumi shuffled her cards back into her deck. “Anytime~”
It’s sunset, both girls lay on the ground, giggling. Yumi is the first to compose herself slightly “Ok… so… that’s four wins for me, five for you… pretty good record so far.”
“Don’t forget the game we tied.”
“Oh yeah, that was fun. I can see why my brother spoke so highly of you…”
“Speaking of him… what happened to Lumio? He dropped off the scene pretty abruptly, is he ok?”
Yumi’s face darkened. “That’s something I’d like to find out…”
And something I hope I don’t already know…
