often times I catch myself just standing in some random part of the house dissociating. I can’t imagine how that must look, honestly. probably like im a vacant ghost haunting the place. anyways. my dog is always right by my side. he finds the most awkward places to curl up sometimes just to be near me when I’m disconnected from reality.

and I wonder what he thinks. is it like, oh, she’s gone again. or is it just some normal habit he is used to and thinks nothing of it.

sometimes I think I may assume animals have a more cognitive consciousness than they probably do..but also, I think they understand far more than they could ever communicate.

he’s very loyal to his mentally ill person and I value him greatly.

TIL that when the wind measuring satellite Aeolus’ lifespan came to an end, ESA and the composer Jamie Perera released a music piece that was created based on the data Aeolus had captured over the roughly five years it was operational. Each second of the song equals one day of collected data, in which the satellite would orbit Earth 16 times.

The pitch, length and loudness of musical notes were created by transforming a variety of Aeolus’ data types into musical parameters, mapped onto the ranges of different wind instruments.

You can also hear landmark events, such as volcanic eruptions, represented by drums, hurricanes represented by wind sound effects, and the Covid pandemic represented by a pulsing synth.

Aeolus captured data from space 2018-2023, and it helped improve weather forecasts, especially during the pandemic, as a lot of commercial flights that would usually measure data on wind vectors didn’t happen during that time period.

Each instrument in the orchestral arrangement of the Aeolus sonification represents a different type of data: the highest, the piccolo, corresponds to data collected from the tops of clouds using the satellites lasers. The lower instruments, bassoon and bass clarinet, represent data collected much lower close to Earth’s surface. Everything in between — clarinets, flutes and oboes — represent variables such as cloud density, air pressure, air temperature and wind velocity.

I just think it’s super cool to create art from science and in a way to give this satellite’s life another meaning. Also, as the composer said, it provides an accessible way for the visually impaired to interact with science data. I wish they did this for every dying satellite.

Here you can find more info, about the sonification process and there’s a video about the music piece and Aeolus which is really nice.

And if you play clarinet, flute or oboe, the ESA has made a part of the sheet music available!!

I’ve had a sustained high heart rate pretty much since I took the first dose of steroid yesterday. Piggy is reading it as anxiety and spamming my with her emotional support behavior (laying on my chest and purring) like “why won’t you fucking relax, möther?” It especially goes up when I’m eating because I have to sit up a bit to eat. Having a cat desperately trying to sit on your chest while you’re eating is inconvenient, to say the least.

China’s Microwave Laser?

Microwaves that cook Satellites or at least their circuits, if we let dead satellites grow, look out for the Kessler syndrome.??‘Haven’t we debunked the Kessler syndrome already?’

Debunked the theory that we won’t be able to launch into orbit because of space junk. The sky’s clear as the junk burns up in the atmosphere, so we won’t be stuck on Earth.‘But who will want to go to space, when China…

I have my little Fry staying with me at my friend’s house today and tomorrow and it’s fucking wild how much I really do need my emotional support dog. I have infinitely fewer suicidal thoughts with her around. It’s also wild that people in my life don’t really see what it means to have an emotional support animal. My dad definitely thinks I have one so that she’s allowed to be in apartments that don’t necessarily allow pets. That’s such an idiotic thought process.
