Mother’s Day

When I was a child,

I just wanted to play.

I didn’t see the work you put in

Each and every day.

Now I’m a grown-up,

I wanted to say:

Thank you for taking care of me

In each and every way.

You packed my lunches,

You cooked my meals.

You rode out my tantrums

When I just couldn’t deal.

You brushed my hair

(Even though it made me scream!)

And even when I failed,

You encouraged me to dream.

There were times when I said

Things I didn’t really mean;

There were times we missed each other,

Where neither one of us felt seen.

Now, looking back,

I see how much you put me first.

You stuck with me through everything:

The good times, and the worst.

So now that it’s Mother’s Day,
