BRIM Dispute, Dunning and Collection Management. Role of Acuiti Labs

What is SAP BRIM?

SAP BRIM, also commonly known SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management is nothing but a high-volume usage-based solution that’s sole purpose is to ease complex billing an invoicing process and simplify the entire process for the businesses. It improves the flow of selling and re-selling of products and services and sharing revenue in the most appropriate way.

SAP BRIM (Billing & Revenue Innovation Management) – Process Overview

Here are the few steps that can help you in understanding the complete process of SAP BRIM –

1. Define Service Products and Bundles: During the first step, along with defining the product, product relationships such as cross-and up-sell is also identified. Then further comes bundling of any services & products followed by configuration process based on the requirement of the customers. There can also be Reuse of rate plans for different products

2. Contract Creation and Management: Next in the process comes the contract creation part where order decomposition and Contract lifecycle management in initiated.

3. Mediation and Rating: Third step in the process is responsible for managing high volume, real time and batch mediation and rating. All the metering, balance management and splitting of debits and/or credits are carried out in this step of SAP BRIM Process.

4. Billing and Invoicing: Not only simple but also in very effective manner the summarization is done, a special attention is given so that there is no loss of detail. Required Billing and Payment Statement support, Reverse-and-rerate process support is provided during this step.

5. Accounts and Receivable: This is the final step of the process and here the receivables management dunning & collections payment handling is done. Line-item Dispute Management Credit Management are also the part of this final step.

What is Dunning and Collection Management? How can SAP be the best choice?

Dunning is the process of methodically communicating with customers to ensure the collection of receivables

During this process notices are sent to the customer with overdue items, requesting payment of the outstanding amount by a specified date

SAP BRIM leverage the concept of Business Rules framework to identity the appropriate collection step (action) as per latest parameters of the customer account.

Features of using SAP Dunning

· Configure multiple collection step for the Collection Strategy.

· Tailored treatment for different segments of customer

· Running Champion-Challenger – Multiple strategy running in parallel

· Success Valuation of each strategy, each action for continuous refinement of strategies

· Dunning history and traceability of all actions to overdue items

· Automatic interest/charge calculation & posting in the run

· Customer specific activities based on pre-defined function modules like integration with 3rd party debt collection agencies

· Mass reversal of dunning runs including dunning activities

· Simulation in production before any major in strategy being deployed

Collection Management – Significant way to reduce the time spent in collections from customers

By using collection management software it becomes easy for the organizations and the individual to manage, control, and align the entire collection flow.

Buying and spending a lot on software like CRM or ERP for bringing in more leads and get those closed quickly is fine but not on the cost of ignoring the remaining part of the process. Rest of the process that comes after the contract has been signed or the product has been delivered, where to close the loop you have to collect the money that is owed to you. The process of collecting the money isn’t as easy at it seems and requires a lot of time and efforts.

Opting for a collection management software to streamline this process has turned to be really beneficial and time saving by a lot of businesses today. Here are a few benefits that a lot of companies have already realized by using collection management software –

Faster Payments – The organizations that are already using collection management software receives the payment 20% faster when

compared to the organizations that are still following traditional way and using the manual systems.

Better and Accurate Cash Forecasting – A typical collection system often fails when it comes to cash-forecasting but while you use a collection management software, your team will be given the advantage of tracking the expected payments along with providing a statistical cash forecast. Companies can easily get details about the expected payments that can be further utilized for confirming the statistical cash forecast for more accurate cash flow management.

Increased fresh/unused credit lines – A collection management software is very useful in identifying unused or fresh credit lines and get details of the lower-risk customers. Once these customers are identifies, you can help them in buying more products and services from your company. The receivable end of the collection management software helps in getting a holistic view of complete accounts receivable process so that you can have a clear idea about how improved and systematic credit management is positively impacting the future sales of your company.

Become trusted receivable with better borrowing position – Every organization requires capital for better growth and future improvement. Having said that, it is not an easy job for many companies. When you choose to borrow money for capital improvement, banks thoroughly calculate and review your receivable as in to determine what amount of money can be provided to you and on what interest rate. The organizations that are using collection management software mostly have healthier accounts receivable and are considered qualified for larger amounts from the banks that too at minimal interest rate. Lower interest rate can help the companies in getting huge potential savings over the course of each loan.

Highly reduced bad debts – The organizations that use collection management software systems typically cut down bad debt by 15-25% as these software successfully identifies and resolves any disputes very quickly and prevents them from aging to the point where they’re uncollectable.

Better reporting and analysis – Use of collection management software makes it highly feasible for organizations to get better reports that are pre-configured, consists of labels, catalogue, templates, checklists etc. CMS ensures that data can be easily exported in a variety of useful formats.

Behind the scenes

The BM is a huge labyrinth, there are lots of stairs all around, doors which are not available for the mass, rooms for elite and many other secret spaces about which an ordinary visitor cannot even think.
In the first part of the day, we have covered the topic of collection management. While discussing the standards of storage I could not forget the memorial house-museum of Aybek. The BM has perfect conditions for storing their enormous collections, and they still try to find ways to update the rooms.

image

I was lucky enough to visit the actual storage of Egypt and Sudan. Every material has its own way of preservation. For example, some of the papyruses are stored vertically, some of them horizontally, but all between two glasses molded from pests. At the moment, the museum has a huge work of standardizing the coding of all the exhibits (since the system is different at different departments, and it is different at different periods of time). Same is happening in Uzbekistan right now, all the museums are struggling with transferring all the data to the electronic system.
I was very surprised to see that some of the items like jewelry have the number right on the surface, which looks unesthetic. In the room of pottery, I was about to puke because of a very specific smell. When I asked about it, the collection manager said that before it was a room for mummies and the smell of dead bodies is still here.

I just cannot imagine how passionate a person should be about the work he or she does in order to work in the basement with a lack of air surrounded by old or dead objects.

The second part of the day was even more impressive. We had a lecture about the libraries and archives, which were followed by the tour to these places. The library of the BM is scattered around the museum and is divided into different sections. We were taken to the archeology and anthropology department where we saw the books which are invaluable, some of them are even older than my great grandparents. Afterward, we were given a task to find a book related to our home country…I could not find anything. I was very sad and confused, I could not understand the reason: is our history poor or we just do not present the books to other countries or nobody is interested in Central Asia. After walking between aisles for half an hour I finally decided to talk to the senior librarian -Antony Loveland (cool surname). He explained to me that most of the exhibits and books the BM has are from the countries which were their colonies before. And he kind of reminded me about the Russian Empire.

image

I was also surprised that the BM does not have its own publishing, and most of the books are published in Thames and Hudson. At some point in history, the BM closed its publishing, but most of the people working there right now think that it was a mistake. The board of trustees is seriously thinking to have it in the future plans, we will see how it will work.

image

What do you think about when you hear the word archives? I think about some dusty basement with piles of paper all around. But it turned to be that the BM archives are located in the former public British library which looks freaking amazing. The library was established in 1753, and it looks exactly the same today. There are many archive documents stuffed on the shelves such as property plans, political documents, and even the books of the library visitors. It was terrific to see the registration of such people like Karl Marx and Oscar Wilde.

image

The end of the day was full of adventure with my new friends. We went to the London Eye, saw homeless musicians, used London underground, and ate Indian food.

I am grateful…

#Conservation @NYPL @nyplcollectionmanagement 🔧🔨🔩 love their Nilfisk GM-80 vacuum. It’s the workhorse of the collection management and conservation world.
.
Note: HEPA is important in collection spaces. Vacuum exhaust can recirculate hazardous dusts and allergens, scattering them rather than collecting them. With variable speed control and a microtool kit, the GM-80 can clean everything from collections to floors. #collectionmanagement #healthandsafety #nypl #libraries #preservation

Invertebrate Collections Internship | Smithsonian Fellowships and Internships

The Department of Invertebrate Zoology at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) is currently accepting applications for an invertebrate collections internship opportunity.

PROJECT TITLE: Collection Management of BOEM Environmental Studies Program Invertebrates

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Department of the Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has contracted with the NMNH Department of Invertebrate Zoology (IZ) since 1979, to provide professional collection management services for the long-term curation of its collection of marine invertebrate specimens taken during the environmental baseline surveys of various oil and gas lease sites on the US East, West, and Gulf Coasts. These studies sampled existing biological communities along the continental shelf to document their composition and to help predict the potential impacts of future oil/gas explorations. BOEM and NMNH both appreciated the potential research value of these collections and collaborated on the creation of a project that would help ensure these invaluable collections would be cared for and made accessible for future research.

Project interns will assist in routine specimen processing, curation, and incorporation of specimens into the type and general collection or collection holding areas; assist in collection arrangement improvements; assist in data management tasks such as cataloging, accumulating station data, and updating project websites; photographing invertebrate specimens; and assist in packing and shipping of scientific loans and borrows.

QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates with course-work in invertebrate zoology and marine sciences are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with databases, photography, and digital imaging software is helpful.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Project interns will learn basic physical curation techniques applicable to invertebrate collections, basic invertebrate nomenclature & taxonomy, museum specimen databases & data standards, and packing & shipping protocols related to international shipping of scientific collections.

TIMETABLE: 10-week internship beginning on June 1, 2015 and ending August 10, 2015.

AWARD PACKAGE: Two positions are available with a stipend of $475 per week.

HOW TO APPLY: Please submit a resume, letter of recommendation, and description about what you hope to learn through this opportunity to William Moser (Email: moserw@si.edu, Tel. 301-238-1761) no later than Wed 5/20/15.

BIG NAMES

you know these - where the author’s name takes up most of the cover and the title of the book is so small you’re not even sure what it is?

image

image

image

browsers are going to see the author’s name shouting at them and immediately know that they want to read it.

can’t tell what this one’s about?  ok.  does it even matter?  it could be the author’s grocery list - it’s still going to go out as soon as it hits the shelf!

Photo
judge-a-book-by-the-cover
judge-a-book-by-the-cover

yes, i’m judging you!

whoever said don’t judge a book by its cover never had to order paperback books to add to a library collection.

paperback books generally are not considered highbrow literature.  they are an escape for the reader.  they are the ‘cozies’ and the 'beach reads’.

think about it - how much time do library patrons spend deciding whether to take a book home?  a couple of seconds, tops!  they look at the front cover to tell them what they need to know and make a decision before they’ve even flipped it over to look at the review quotes on the back cover.

so why spend hours pouring over catalogs and reading reviews?  you can tell by the cover if it’s going to be a good fit for your patrons.  this blog will give you some examples and tips on what you’re looking at and show you what to look for.

judge for yourself!
