how this shelf used to look

Gotta take this all down for home improvements so here’s some of my maximalist bullshit 🤙

I’ve been wanting to show off my horse collection (and theriotype shelf I guess) for a while, and I finally think it’s ready to see the world after I found some more horses while spring cleaning to fill it out more.
Most of these horsies are toys from when I was younger, but some of them I’ve collected over the past year or so.
This is probably the biggest collection of things that I have, and I’m really proud of this shelf (the last picture isn’t on the shelf, it’s on one of my other bookshelves because I ran out of room lol)

14/3.2026 - Dusted and washed everything in the pirate cupboard today. Felt weirdly motivated to tidy things up. This was the first piece of furniture that we bought and I still love it so much.
Yes!
When I was younger, I used to collect things with cats on them; less so now, but I still will occasionally pick up something cute. As a kid, I also collected rocks, gems, and minerals and was rather nerdy about them. My favourite was dioptase, with cavansite in second place.
Now, I do have a collection of Trek novels and merch. The merch is primarily things with Bones on them (or Dr. Crusher), but it’s varied. I am apparently starting a collection of Chanukah t-shirts and sweaters with Trek characters on them (it’s small for now). I wouldn’t necessarily say I collect stickers, but I definitely seem to wind up with a lot.
I have too many books in general, but what do you do when you’re an English professor?
I have a collection of theatre programs/tickets that is entirely out of control, now that I’m seeing upwards of 150 shows a year. Thank goodness some shows are paperless.
My “vanity” collection is that I have at least one copy of almost all of my articles that have been published in a physical newspaper, and I collect plays that are published with a quotation from me on the back (there are at least seven that I’m aware of; one of them’s been particularly newsworthy/selling like hotcakes lately, but I shan’t say which or why). I joke that the easiest way to sell at least one copy of your play is to get it published with a paragraph from me on the back. It’s unspeakably vain, but can you blame me? At least I know I liked the play.

These toys are wonderful. If you decide to collect them I implore you to understand that you are dealing with aged plastic. Stalker especially is extremely fragile. Do not attempt to place him onto a figure stand or put his gun in his hand. Changing the rubber O rings can be challenging as the earliest straight arm figures require a thinner size. Please watch some videos or join collectors groups and ask questions.
