JOURNAL ENTRY #83 - Life Progresses Upward

JOURNAL ENTRY #83
Name: Manley M Collins
Social Security Number: 5 7 9 – * * – 6 5 4 1
Date of Birth: 06/21
Place of Birth: Washington, District of Columbia
Country of Birth: United States of America
Date: May 21, 2025

TOPIC: Life Progresses Upward

After experiencing the bottom of the barrel with life for five (5) years in the Northeast, I came back to familiar territory with new and old people into my social networks. When I return back to Washington, District of Columbia, the communities or locations where I felt comfortable were taken away. I had to find a new location which the UPO sent me directly to Community for Creative Non-Violence with a co-ed security firm. The craziest situation for this homeless shelter because it creates a violent environment to scare people and I do not have time to sue/civil suit every single officer performing illegal tasks or pushing the law to the limits. The security officers were literally acting out all the actions I was fighting against in Massachusetts. Thank goodness I was able to find my apartment soon enough because it was a clear crash course to go buckwild and hurt the unauthorized hitting and send it back directly to them. I never saw the limits of special police officer pushed so far until this experience.

I had to find my medical care and begin the process of reestablishing my care with Washington, DC. One very different change in life I did was to look for help within the African-American/Black community. I rejoined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. financially and reconnect via Mu Lambda Chapter. It was good to meet the brothers. It was good to see the variety flavors of black men and the openness of joking, taking care of business, and topics that were taboo when I first joined. With Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, this organization surprised me to ask to apply and volunteer State Director. I volunteered for the first time to score scholarship applications on the collegiate level. I really enjoyed reading the parts of the scholarship application. The contribution felt good for my first national convention conference. I also applied for a chair position in the United States Association of Track and Field (USATF), which was a first to get involved in the internal workings of the organization.

I met with Washington, DC Office of Disability Services to establish vocational rehabilitation services. Thank goodness for good recordkeeping was helpful for the process.

I joined the Vegan Meetup group. I attended the group movie called Mission: Impossible with questions and answers with the CEO of Impossible Foods. I love the Impossible Whopper at Burger King. I tried some of the sample plant based products, such as the sliders, skewers, and sugar cookie. I attended another event in Virginia which was a potluck. It was good and all my sweet and plain baked potatoes are gone.

My medical and health care transitioned back to Unity Healthcare and George Washington University Primary Care System. It was interesting how GWU was connected to or gained access to the same medical and health system used by Boston Medical Center. It is good thing to alleviate some of the stress of continuously retrieving my medical records from place to place. I still keep it for my records.

I am still in litigation with Pine Street Inn, Longwood Security, and Jet Security plus eleven (11) individuals. It took a minute to organize the Sheriff service, but I understand why they are involved.

I went to Boston for the Collins vs Kyambade, General Motors, Progressive, Simon and Simon, Morgan and Morgan rule hearing. It was good defend my point of view in person. I met an airline flight buddy on the way back to Washington, DC.s Most of the Defendants were granted their motion to dismiss. This is a very crazy country for not being able to sue the manufacturer, insurance company, or any parties involved with vehicles hitting pedestrians.

I ran in Washington DC’s 5K Running Event on New Year’s Day in Anacostia Park. I had a job interview with VivSoft. I ran in my first DMV track meet at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. I finally got the title of a future book to write including the chapter outline. I purposely missed the doctor appointments in Boston at Boston Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital. I learned that my primary care physician from Massachusetts General Hospital was leaving the primary care group. I established care with GW Primary Care (Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare) and Unity Healthcare (Medicaid). Washington, DC PARIS group or Medicaid investigation had the balls to come after me talking about fraud in South Carolina, District of Columbia, and Massachusetts.

I taught a strength and bootcamp class, and completed my transfer from Boston Sports Club gym to Washington Sports Club gym, but now all the gyms are labeled New York Sports Clubs gym. I started looking for rooms in Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. Facebook marketplace had the most interactive response for rooms. I went to 1731 Kenyon St NW first. I ran in the USATF Potomac Valley Association Masters Indoor Championship meet at PG Sports and Learning Complex. It was a decent meet. I did not achieve my best because for the past three months my biological or physical body hormone ghrelin decided to help put back on 30 pounds I loss. It is hard running with all the fat or weight gain. My Unity Healthcare doctor claimed obesity and now I am researching an alternative way to lose the weight without resulting to Wegovy, semiglutide, GLP-1, Zepbound, Ozempic. The heavy duty physical activity is now limited to just two or four hours a day instead of twelve hours. The next open house I visited was 1714 Montello Ave NE. 1714 Montello Ave NE discovered something on my background check regarding the New York tax lien that happened a decade ago. I requested a copy of my report and kindly called the State of New York for a certificate of disposition regarding the paid tax lien. I tried to tour an apartment at Carver Terrace, but the listing was not true or they did not have any apartments available. I attended open house at Rockburne Estates along with Patriot Realty Management Company. 2627 Jasper St SE was the first application I put in for low income housing and it was the first to delve deeply into my personal life and finances. It was in comparison since I have never rented in so long. I only remembered for market rate apartments or rooms I only had to submit to a background check, credit check, and paystubs. I had to let and argue with 2627 Jasper St SE Patriot Management Company what happened with Boston Housing Authority and New York City Housing Authority recent events involving people personal information including banking statements, etc. DC Housing Authority close or suspended its waitlist. Flats on the Hill was a former SplitSpot property so I did not pursue that one. Capitol Park Plaza and Twins guided me into the apartment with ease on filing through the Low Income Tax Credit Program, but now the landlord has the building up for sale at $85 million dollars.

I am still attending Microsoft Advertising Conference calls and applying to all my advertising accounts including Google. I attended the DC Meetup of the Chinese Lunar Parade. I had a job interview with OneLife Fitness, which also had a Crunch Fitness location. Crunch Fitness in Boston was ready to interview me, but I already had moved to Washington, DC. I attended Mu Lambda Super Bowl Watch Party and it was very fun and enjoyable. I taught a cardio dance/Zumba class. I was able to suspend my Zumba membership for three months and was elated how easy it was, but they still charged $10 for freezing the account. I found my new psychiatrist. I am attending SCSUNAA Quarterly Meetings. Unfortunately, I do not have a travel budget to attend the SCSUNAA National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina NOR Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity General Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. SCSUNAA did recognize me as a Life Member and plan to honor Life Members at a luncheon at the convention. Capital Park Plaza and Twins started formulating a Tenant or resident meeting to address concerns of the tenants and discuss the transition to a new landlord. I taught a total body conditioning class at the gym. I still workout all the major and minor parts of the body, but my routine is not as structured as when I was using Bodybuilding’s BodySpace app. I went to a Meetup Mardi Gras at the Wharf. The meetup group started at the ZOOZ, watch the parade, and then end up at various stages of music concerts. I completed another Shuffle Dating moment. I went to the Board of Elections to update my voter registration and to my surprise, they printed the card right on the spot…wow…impressive. I anticipated the wait for my Boston Municipal Court Criminal Court Hearing. I asked the attorney the day before on what could have happened. The decision to dismiss happened, then I waited a week before I sent in the paperwork to seal the file. My attorney said he could do it for a fee. I still have in the backpocket if my CORi or Public Record did not clear. I request my certificate of disposition from the BMC Criminal Court. I fixed the Checkr background service. Unfortunately, for UberEATS, they told me surrounding my NYC arrest that Uber cannot be fixed. DoorDash gave up. However, Uber and DoorDash surprisingly had Facebook groups exchanging people information, such as driver’s license and getting around the background checks, come out at a Congressional hearing and traditional media.

I had my very first housewarming party in a totally empty apartment. Thanks goodness an event planner friend came through to suggest a last minute event setup person. It was just in time. An Alpha brother, a couple of high school classmates, a graduate college classmate, and a good friend appeared, ate food, enjoyed drinks, and had good talks with each other. I was happy to see them as them with me. It was suggested to get plants and coverings to cover my business due to the logistics of the bathroom. I attended University of Phoenix webinars. I updated my profile in DC Networks. I updated my profile in Facebook Dating. I updated my profile in eHarmony. All other apps got updated with my most recent HIV, STDs, STIs, and DDF status. I attended my Vegan Meetups events and potluck. I took pictures in front of Lady Liberty taking a break or lying on her side. I renewed my small business registration status with DC Government. I attended my first Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc Board of Directors meeting and it seems plenty of stuff going on at the top of the organization and the new general president.
I attended my first Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity History Lesson. I attended my first Omega or funeral homegoing services conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. DC DMV Meetup canceled the much anticipated Easter Egg hunt. I attended Friendship Baptist Church for Easter Sunday service. Grubhub got it right and surprisingly their stuff and paraphernalia survived all my physical losses. I only work for Grubhub once a week. I send updates to DC ODS and DC DOES as I apply for positions to meet under making $1200 per week. I filed my taxes and got a hefty refund I have not seen in decades. Thanks to Federal Express for that one. In reality and at this point of time, it is now just puzzles me that I have no reason to spend the money. After all the wars of losses, companies begging for money, replacing the losses, and charitable causes needing money, my basic needs are met differently through government help and severe budgeting led me to never live beyond my means. I now can say and mean, “No!” to grown adults and offers without any unfortunate harm happening to me or feeling guilty. I taught yoga class all during the month of May. I went to the Wharf SW DC Bike-To-Work day station and conversate with some people there.

On the transportation front, DC DMV took away my motorcycle credential when I finally showed up with my Massachusetts license plus correct paperwork. I have to attend Prince Georges Community College for another motorcycle course. To waste some time, I did try to seek out a similar vehicle deal like I had my Ford Expedition, but no one was budging on the price of high mileage cars. It was very difficult to find a 5-7 year old vehicle under 100K miles for $5K without an accident. I bought my first Trek electric bicycle for $3600 including taxes and fees plus security. My Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is doing everything it can to protect the investment from registries to over the top physical security to render the electric bike useless. As I mentioned from a previous blog and South Carolina Berkeley County police advice, I got a Ring video doorbell to help prevent the crazy shenanigans at my previous addresses. Gun ownership or competitive sport is on my mind, but I am getting too much mental negative feedback on all the crazy possibilities of shoulda, coulda, woulda, and can happen.

Eric Jerome Dickey’s Business of Lovers
It was a fantastic read and so many levels of romance and sexual fantasies. Brick is so selfless as an older brother. Andre being Andre and flying high in the entertainment business. Dewayne overcoming his obstacles. Mocha Latte handled Brick so well. I want to experience the three level orgasm with myself and my partner(s). I want to know how Dewayne, Sr named two children Dewayne Junior. It is interesting the business of sexual escorts. I love the role reversal of Coretta, a woman, living the secret and double life. I love the cross or intersections with other books and characters, such as Ken Swift and Jack Ellis, or Erica from the Blackbirds.

Eric Jerome Dickey’s Finding Gideon
Finding Gideon was very revealing about father and son relationships and the love triangle of not knowing where you were from originally. Domestic violence is no joke. Being an assassin can be an attractive trait for anyone. It is interesting to how some people have to go great lengths to discover themselves.

Zane’s Addicted
It was plenty of reflection on how kids grew up. Zane gave a good reflection on traditional marriages on marrying young, having kids so young, and how sexually marital problems start. When you cannot change your friends’ situation, I have learn let them find out for themselves. Every single person and married people have their own problems. Yes, I am a sexual addict nymphomaniac, but it is controlled. No background checks on sexual partners is a costly decision. Therapy is never to be ashamed of.

Zane’s Nervous
Multiple personalities can be real. It does relate to my blackouts. However, my blackouts came out to reality and now reality seems to cannot handle reality. Thank goodness I survived my blackouts. Thanks to my security cameras showing me what I do during my sleep. Yes, my blackouts were 5th grade, 2007-2009, and 2015-2016. I was sleepwalking during my childhood years. At the end of the story, it does give hope for someone as unique as me to find my second wife. To really bring an Atlanta memory was the mention of Justin’s Restaurant. I do agree too many people think they do not need counseling for any type of mental health.

Apple TV+ Loot
I tried to find a streaming show that I like, but it was hard. I started with Severance, but that did not last 30 minutes. I did find Loot with SNL alum Maya Rudolph and it was really good for two seasons.

I spent time with my dad, Tommy, and we watched Riches with an African UK cast. It was good.

This was unexpected. It was good to know my cousin and family, Cindy. Last time I remember seeing her at the usual spot, Yvette and Dell’s house, when I came down to South Carolina. She was a beautiful human being. She was kind and loving. Thank God we lived in the same community Eadytown section of Pineville, South Carolina. The Manley Marvell Collins family share their condolences and will grieve appropriately. You are welcome to reach out for any emotional and moral support as we need each other to celebrate this angelic soul sent to her next phase of life. Love you, Cindy, and the Collins and McCray clan.

I watched my usuals, such as Abbott Elementary, Amazing Race, Grey’s Anatomy, and Bold and the Beautiful. A new daytime soap with some memorable and known cast members, Beyond the Gates, caught my attention and starts very strong.

A keeper

Clara Health has asked Checkr to run your background check

One of our current clients requested that we do background checks on individuals. Being on maternity/paternity leave, I’d normally ignore it until later, but Checkr is quite persistent when you ignore them, so I got it off my queue before what-pathetic-excuse-counts-for-sleep last night.

This morning:
Not a sex offender!

I had to announce my relief to…

Beware of these futuristic background checks

Checkr has become a favorite of gig economy firms, including Uber, Instacart, Shipt, Postmates, and Lyft. On its website, Checkr argues that AI can ultimately drive down the cost of bringing on a new hire by helping process background-checks in two ways. First, the technology helps verify that a given criminal record belongs to the person whose background is being checked. Second, the AI assists in comparing the names of criminal charges that have different names in different places. What might be reported as “petty theft” in one locale could be reported as “petit larceny” somewhere else.

But as lawsuits against Checkr suggest, these services can make mistakes, even with the use of AI. Many of these complaints allege that the company matched people to criminal records belonging to others with the same or similar names.

Accel and Sequoia seed Middesk with $4M to background check businesses

Accel and Sequoia seed Middesk with $4M to background check businesses

For those of you that diligently follow the hot startups to graduate from Y Combinator’s accelerator program, you might recall Middesk.

The company was amongst an exclusive subset of startups in YC’s winter 2019 batch to walk into demo day term sheet in hand. Top VCs, like Accel and Sequoia Capital, couldn’t wait until the team’s public pitch was complete to seed the company.

Middesk performs…

8.  La prochaine personne à interviewer?

Mathilde Colin, fondatrice de Front
