i think of alchemy
as i remember the deep black eyes that looked back at me
the gazes one does meet and the things you wonder
tiny in the universe, not the ocean, that separates one gaze from the other
no science and no language can pull close
but you can try
and a car passes by and the crickets cricket by
motorbike
as the air passes through you still wonder if your universe is legible enough
and you giggle for you remember
when has ever a universe been completely
understood?
and as a honk honks
and i i
night surrounds
quite some of us
time is passing, music’s blasting
and the listening breathes slow

Many women walk into a room and instinctively read it.
Who seems tense.
Who is uncomfortable.
Who might react badly to what is said.
And before the conversation even begins, something shifts.
Tone softens.
Words are adjusted.
Energy changes.
Because many women were quietly taught that part of being a “good woman” is maintaining the emotional balance of the room.
Not just your feelings.
Everyone’s.
This ability to read emotional environments can be a powerful skill. It creates empathy, awareness and emotional intelligence.
But when that awareness becomes constant, it can also become exhausting.
Many women are not just participating in conversations.
They are quietly managing the emotional temperature of the room.
And at some point, a question naturally arises:
When did this become my responsibility?
Empathy is valuable.
But no one person is responsible for regulating everyone else’s emotions.
Women are allowed to have feelings too — not just manage them for others.
Midlife rarely arrives with an announcement.
There is no dramatic moment where someone tells you life is about to shift. Instead, it appears quietly.
Your tolerance for certain things changes.
Your interest in pleasing everyone fades.
Things that once felt important start to feel heavy.
And questions you once ignored begin to surface.
For many women, midlife is the first time the focus turns inward after decades of caring for everyone else.
Sometimes that shift brings clarity.
Sometimes it brings grief for the life you imagined.
But grief is not failure.
It is often the beginning of honesty.
Midlife is not simply about ageing. For many women, it is the moment when performance begins to fall away and a more authentic life begins to emerge.
Not less life.
More precise life.
A season where you begin choosing what actually matters.
I got beef with Wednesdays… Monday’s don’t bother me anymore… Wednesday such a random ass day though. Ah wag dis ?! Gadon kaka MESYE!!!

Every time you mention Haiti and Latin America, the racists come rushing to gate keep as if it is some kind of private club for white-passing POC. I wonder why that is? 🤔

Wonderful news and a helpful way to show solidarity and support. Vietnamese experts are teaching Cuban farmers how to make fertilizer from acacia trees.
