When Did Women Become Responsible for Everyone’s Feelings?
Many women walk into a room and instinctively read it.
Who seems tense.
Who is uncomfortable.
Who might react badly to what is said.
And before the conversation even begins, something shifts.
Tone softens.
Words are adjusted.
Energy changes.
Because many women were quietly taught that part of being a “good woman” is maintaining the emotional balance of the room.
Not just your feelings.
Everyone’s.
This ability to read emotional environments can be a powerful skill. It creates empathy, awareness and emotional intelligence.
But when that awareness becomes constant, it can also become exhausting.
Many women are not just participating in conversations.
They are quietly managing the emotional temperature of the room.
And at some point, a question naturally arises:
When did this become my responsibility?
Empathy is valuable.
But no one person is responsible for regulating everyone else’s emotions.
Women are allowed to have feelings too — not just manage them for others.

Sometimes it brings grief for the life you imagined.
But grief is not failure.
It is often the beginning of honesty.
Midlife is not simply about ageing. For many women, it is the moment when performance begins to fall away and a more authentic life begins to emerge.
Not less life.
More precise life.
A season where you begin choosing what actually matters.
