Not every customer sent your way will be a good fit for your product. Some customers don’t understand what your product offers, and others have the wrong expectations. The point? 👇
Even if you want to help them reach their desired outcome, you can’t help some customers.
This doesn’t reflect your ability to help them, but they’re not a good fit.
Your next steps?
👉 Focus on your customers that can actually get value from using your product because no amount of helping and optimism will make you a good fit for them and vice versa.
👉 Work together 🤝 with sales so everyone’s on the same page about who’s your ideal customers.
👉 Take it a step further and start collecting data that lets your stakeholders see that X customer type isn’t who you should be targeting—or closing—because they’re most likely to churn, which costs 💲💲💲.
Because it’s not your job to put out fires that were predestined to burn 🔥 but rather help the customers that you can.
Who’s responsible for driving user adoption at your company? Your CS team? Should they? And when shouldn’t they?
In our micro podcast, find out what Jason C. Whitehead (Co-Founder, Success Chain) says on this topic in his conversation with Prithwi Dasgupta (CEO, SmartKarrot) below!

Thoughts?
The daily grind of a CSM means there’s a lot of responsibility involved with helping your customers reach their goals while also hitting your internal ones. But there are also mistakes along the way. Are you making one of them?
Check out our video below to see the common mistakes CSMs make!

Are you relying on NRR to be the determining factor for measuring your customers’ success? If so, you might be selling yourself (and your customers’ potential) short.
As Rick Adams, CEO of Practical CSM, said, “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳, 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦, 𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.”
Sure, Net Recurring Revenue is valuable, but Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) is where the real, long-term gold is.
Do you plan to utilize CLV more? OR, if it’s already your pot of gold, what changes have you noticed when you started focusing more on CLV versus NRR?
Wanna’ customer-centric mindset for your CS operations? Customer data is just what the doctor ordered.
Our CEO, Prithwi Dasgupta says, “𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳-𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤, 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘳, 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘢.”
Customer success is impossible to achieve without taking a customer-first approach. And you can’t put your customers first if you don’t know anything meaningful about them. 🤷
What do you think?
