I think I heard this wrong … but I’m afraid to ask in case I was right.

“No, I don’t have tacos coming out of my balls!”

an underrated perk of having a hearing disability is that I can give up. Situation too loud? Hearing aids off. Somebody mansplaining? Sorry, can’t hear you over the bus. Don’t want to do all that? Can’t comprehend instructions. Works every time.

I have a hearing disability, so I don’t really know/hear the lyrics to songs, I just vibe. Which is how I ended up listening to a German cover of “Go, Johnny, Go” for YEARS

when you’re doing smile-and-nod “hearing” and fuck up a response so badly your only two options become:

== Try to explain you’re deaf/hoh (embarrassing)

== Lose -600 Friendship Points

Hi everyone?! So I’d like to ask (inquire if you will) about some experiences others share? Starting from the beginning here, I very much feel like ever since I had a few bad ear infections back in late 2019-early 2020, my hearing and listening has not been the same. I’ve been googling (dangerous) and auditory processing disorder seems to disclose all of my concerns? I want to ask a majority of other people who have it though to possibly share experiences or at least give me the overview because google is again, dangerous??? It’s become such a frequent instead of fleeting problem these days that I want to ask if others have their own experiences.

[[MORE]]

So overall I have this constant issue of people talking to me, with a few different almost constant outcomes???

•”Huh? What?”

•*repeats what I think they said*

•entire misunderstanding of what I heard

•it is instantly forgotten or I only remember half of what I was told (“take out the trash and take it down to the curb” but I only take out the trash, go inside, and claim “you didn’t tell me to take it down to the curb 😭”)

Among that though other random things that seem to manifest off of it include???

•Everyone saying I talk too loudly even when I’m pretty sure I’m whispering

•Reading messages from friends, entirely misunderstanding, responding anyway, then apologizing bc I misunderstood (constant pain)

•Random back and forth ear pain despite no lingering infection or anything like that

•subtitles/cc are a MUST if I don’t have my headphones

•some other stuff?!? Idk what’s going on!!!!!!

like am I just distracted and flighty or??? Idk i do my very best to pay attention and listen but!!!! It’s been three years now and I just have concerns I guess

I was looking through a Snoopy children’s book and found this relatable scene.

Auditory Processing Disorder feels: when you can’t understand a person and you’re too exhausted to decipher what’s being said so you throw in the towel for the day.

i know we joke a lot about auditory processing disorder, which is absolutely fine! but i think that means people forget it’s… well, a disorder. its disabling. not being able to understand people, missing instructions and crucial information, even simple things like never understanding the words to a song without looking them up (and often even then)… these things make life very difficult, and without support and accessibility aids (like subtitles, written hand outs in class, hearing aids) we can and do struggle a lot. please keep that in mind! :)

CAPD – Learning how to live and learn with Central Auditory Processing Disorder - Unorthoboxed

It wasn’t until I was in my mid-60s that I discovered the name of the learning disorder that I have struggled with all my life. Unfortunately, it is something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life. There is no cure, but there are many strategies that can help.
