How to be Productive While Working From Home

Despite spending hours and hours in the office or on the computer - are you really being productive and using your time well? It’s safe to say most all of us can all plead guilty of texting friends while writing essays or using the classic excuse of “I’ll do it tomorrow” every day until the deadline.

At Savvy, we made a list of “Do’s and Don’ts” to maximise efficiency in your work and life!

Things to do to be more productive:

Make a To Do list

  • Conclude each day with a to-do list of goals for the next day. Note where you left off and where to pick up your day tomorrow. It can be helpful to prioritise tasks of urgency or delegate to time frames of completing in the morning, afternoon or night time.

Learn where you work best

  • Do you need a private space where it’s quiet? Do you need a bustling, energetic café? Do you need the pressure from the eyes of other co-workers? Does music focus or distract you?
  • Find where you feel the most productive with minimal distractions.

Create phone boundaries

  • Smart phones do offer so many useful work applications with calendars, emails on the go, setting reminders, etc. but we all know have so many tempting distractions of constant notifications from Instagram, Snapchats and texts. Set specific times to allow yourself to check your phone and email and outside that, turn it on airplane mode and no touching!

DO incorporate regular mental rests

  • You simply set an alarm for 25 minutes (or 50 if you’re feeling productive) and then when the alarm goes off, take a break for 20% of the time you worked for (5 minutes or 10minutes respectively).
  • This sounds easy until you try to do it. You will be amazed at how many things pop into your mind during your power hour.

Try out some of the above techniques, or if you want to be productive all day long - try and do everything on the list!

  1. DON’T skip important sleep time or eat unhealthy snacks - Even though you think you’re getting more work time in, if you’re not healthy, you’re not performing at your peak. Make sure you are fueling your brain with the healthy nutrients it needs to function optimally and getting sufficient rest to recharge. Unhealthy snacks can actually harm your ability to focus and be productive. Try to reach for products that will boost productivity. ई-मेल और फोन के माध्यम से हमेशा काम पर रहने की कार्य संस्कृति से परेशान भारतीय कंपनियों ने अब इसे गलत मानते हुए यह अहसास करना शुरू कर दिया है कि इससे बचने की जरूरत है। इसे “राइट टू डिस्कनेक्ट” का नाम दिया गया है। हालांकि भारत में इस अधिकार को मिलने में लंबा वक्त लग सकता है लेकिन इसकी शुरुआत हो चुकी है। एक स्टार्टअप “वी वर्क” ने इस दिशा में काम करना शुरू कर दिया है। वी वर्क ने कर्मचारियों के लिए एक ऐसी गाइडलाइन तैयार की है जिसके अनुसार वे शाम 7 बजे से सुबह 9 बजे तक और सप्ताहांत (वीक एंड) में आधिकारिक ई-मेल का जवाब देने के लिए बाध्य नहीं होंगे।

वी वर्क इंडिया की अधिकारी के मुताबिक हम हमारे कर्मचारियों को परिवार और दोस्तों के साथ समय बिताने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना चाहते हैं। हम यह भी चाहते हैं कि काम के दौरान कड़ी मेहनत करने वाले कर्मचारी अपनी हॉबी या शौक को भी वक्त दें। साथ ही हम कर्मचारियों से यह अपेक्षा रखते हैं कि वे काम के दौरान अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन करें। अधिकारी ने हालांकि यह अपेक्षा भी जताई कि यदि किसी कर्मचारी से संपर्क करना आवश्यक हो तो उसे एसएमएस, वाट्सएप मैसेज या कॉल किए जाने का विकल्प देना होगा।

गौरतलब है कि इसी साल के शुरू में एनसीपी सांसद सुप्रिया सुले ने “राइट टू डिस्कनेक्ट” बिल भी संसद में रखा था। इसी तरह अंतराष्ट्रीय कंपनिया जैसे डेमलर और वॉक्सवेगन ने अपने कर्मचारियों के ई-मेल में ऑटो डिलिट विकल्प दिया है ताकि छुट्टियों के दिन में उनका इनबॉक्स खाली रहे और वे काम पर आते ही तनाव से न घिर जाएं।

भारत में कई कंपनियां देर तक कर्मचारियों के रुकने के खिलाफ
भारत में हिंदुस्तान यूनिलीवर (एचयूएल) और पीडिलाइट इंडस्ट्री जैसी कंपनियां अपने कर्मचारियों के देर तक ऑफिस में रुकने की प्रवृत्ति को हतोत्साहित करती हैं। एलयूएल की प्रिवेंशन ऑफ लेट वर्किंग आवर पॉलिसी के मुताबिक असाधारण परिस्थितियों को छोड़कर देर तक रुकने वाले कर्मचारी को उसके मैनजर के साथ इस बारे में मेल किया जाता है ताकि वे अगले दिन टीम के माध्यम से काम का प्रबंधन ऐसा करें कि किसी को देर तक न रुकना पड़े।

पीडिलाइट इंडस्ट्रीज के प्रेसिडेंट (एचआर) राहुल सिन्हा ने एक अंग्रेजी अखबार को बताया कि हर दिन रात करीब आठ बजे हमारी टीम आफिस का मुआयना करती है कि कोई देर तक काम तो नहीं कर रहा। यदि कई दिनों तक कोई व्यक्ति देर तक काम करता पाया जाता है तो उसके रिपोर्टिंग अधिकारी से चर्चा की जाती है कि वह इस कर्मचारी पर काम के दबाव की समीक्षा करें। यदि कोई शनिवार को भी काम करना चाहता है तो उसे एचआर विभाग से विशेष अनुमति लेना होती है। पीडिलाइट अपने कर्मचारियों को सप्ताह में एक दिन घर से काम करने का विकल्प भी देती है।

The Rebirth of our Boards

JH and I met up at York University and stopped for some hearty food at The Orange Snail. We ordered shrimp pasta since there was no more beef lasagne. Then we headed to RS’s house to commence the pre-season prep.

Coconut water, my weakness.

So, meet my board. It’s 8 years old, hit the slopes almost every single year, never waxed before. It’s definitely nearing the end for us I’m sad to say, it has treated me well. Some back history on me, I had been an avid skier since I was about 6. Around the age of 13, I recalled my cousin starting to snowboard and I hungrily craved the excitement and challenge. After endlessly persuading my parents I would be smart and safe, they finally gave in. And it has been the greatest love affair since then.  Like everyone who begins learning to snowboard, I fell a gazillion times and came home with bruises all over my knees and thighs, they served to be badges of honour. I took those lessons year after year until I got comfortable enough that I left the rest of the group in the dust.

No snowboarding get-together is completely without snowboarding movies.

After wiping your board down, we sharpened the edges, removing the rust that’s build up over the last seasons.

Slowly melting wax on the iron and dripping it evenly all over the base.

Applying the iron to the surface of the board and distributing the wax all over.

Allowing the wax to cool and settle into the boards.

Scraping the wax off, maintaining a thin coat on the board.

Second, waxing prolongs the Snowboard’s "useful life” since waxed bases are more resistant. Consequently, you get the most from your Snowboard. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience in prepping for the season. It’s great being able to bond with other riders who appreciate snow conditions as much as you do. As well, I learned something new! I can’t wait :)
