Every person who is from our country must have heard abut the Vishnu’s Varaha avatar.
The story goes like…Brahma the creator was resting in his adobe when his sons came to visit him. The two guards were very aware of their duties and stopped them from entering. At this the sons of brahma grew furious, and cursed the guards to loose their capabilities as god and go down to earth as humans. Hearing this lord Vishnu apologised the sons for what the guards had done. Since it was lord Vishnu, they decided to lease the curse and said that they could come back to what they were if were killed by the lord himself.
Years flew and the two also grew strong and great devotees. Hiranyaksha, one of them attained lord brahma and for the boon he was granted that no god, human, ditya or asura(demon) could kill him. After this Hiranyaksha grew ambitious. He wanted to take over everything, he searched for the strongest of all he could defeat. He started creating havoc everywhere. He was in search of Vishnu who was said to be the strongest. So he grabbed the earth and went towards pataal lok(hell). At this stage it was the time for Vishnu to go save the planet. So he took the form of wild boar and defeated and killed Hiranyaksha. Then he carried the earth on his tusk and put it back to its position.
Well… fascinating story right? I even got the clip of it which are direct copies of veda.
So when you look at the picture what do you see? Ya the outfit is really good but apart from that, how many noticed the the earth is depicted round over the tusks?
Get the point? I mean this sculpture or even the pictures of it were made thousands of years ago and yet we knew that the earth was round. Which the world accepted only after seeing the pictures from Apollo.
There is this word we use from early, BHUGOLE in which bho is the earth and gol means round. This signifies how forward we were in the study of geography even at that time. Stories here are not just stories and pictures not just pictures. We can extract a thousand different things from each one of them. All we require is a clean mind and open heart to accept things.
