comparison is the thief of joy.

while this revelation isn’t new, it’s very true. while on a social media detox, I played a bit of sims.

completely vanilla, only taking screenshots when something funny happened more out of a reflex than a need to document something and it felt freeing and fun.

while I did have a mod or two (cutting ads from home screen launch for one…,) I disabled the packs I didn’t love and just played.

when consuming other people’s highly curated and edited gameplay and screenshots you begin to wonder — why doesn’t my game look like that? why don’t I do that? why don’t I have that downloaded?

before long you’ve been glued to someone else’s work whether subconsciously or on purpose and it becomes less ‘inspiration’ and more like idolizing, agonizing, and indecision.

all of this to say: play the game if you want to. embrace the quirks of the gameplay, realize that it might not be the same thing others post but if you remove the self imposed rat race of (a lot, not all) of simblr — you can have fun.

This has been a very tiring topic, but this is my only 2 cents on the EA situation.

Please do not fear monger with this news. I think this is the last thing this community needs at the moment. These are investors, they aren’t going to ‘delete’ The Sims. It’s happening with a lot of gaming companies at the moment, and obviously I don’t fully support the idea given who’s behind it, but it’s a transition we’re seeing just about everywhere unfortunately and have to live with. As for the diversity situation, keep in mind, this isn’t Maxis’ first rodeo, and it certainly won’t be their last, but they’ve remained firm about their inclusion of diversity in the last decades. At the end of the day, the direction is still in their hands.

There is nothing wrong with you still wanting to enjoy the game, but I think it’s also important to know that as a player and consumer, we have the opportunity to vote with our wallets and I heavily encourage you guys to use that power to your advantage. This is a monetary issue, so hit them where it hurts the most. There are tools, resources and people more than willing to aid you to stop supporting EA.

Please enjoy your game, post your stories, interact with your favorite simblr blogs, a sense of community is what is needed most in a time like this.

this last update made my game unplayeble, I spent the whole day yesterday trying to fix it now it won’t save on exit (load forever the saving screen), and I click on anything and nothing shows up options or actions and my sim just stand idle forever I am so sad 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
