Children should not need parental permission for medical care!! This doesn’t just apply to life or death care*! A pregnant teen should be able to get an abortion without parental permission! Let teens go on birth control without parental permission! A kid should be able to see a doctor about a mental condition that is harming them and get it treated, even if their parent “doesn’t believe it’s real”.

I don’t care who you’re telling to kill themselves. Firstly, I don’t actually think that’s okay to say to anyone, and second, they are not the only one who will see it. It doesn’t matter who it was addressed to - it still feels like it was addressed to me.

I have chronic suicidality. At any given moment, if you ask me, “Do you want to die?” the answer will be yes. But most of the time I’m not actively thinking about it. Most of the time, I’m distracted. Coming across “kys” is like being asked if I want to die. It reminds me that the answer is yes.

People with chronic or recurrent suicidal thoughts do our best to avoid ruminating on thoughts of suicide. We do our best to avoid things that might trigger a spiral of intensified suicidal ideation.

Every time you tell someone to kill themself, you remind everyone with suicidal thoughts that suicide is an option - and in doing so, you make it more likely that they will take that option.

Stop telling people to kill themselves. Find ways to be cruel that don’t have collateral damage. Or hey, here’s an idea: maybe stop being cruel at all.

The most common case of death for a pregnant person is homicide. This is a massive problem and comes up a lot in discussions around domestic violence and pregnancy as a tool of abuse.

The second most common cause of death in pregnant people? Mental health related demises such as suicide and overdose. Pregnancy wrecks mental health. It absolutely destroys it, especially if you don’t want to be pregnant. Long before postpartum psychosis and postpartum depression, pregnant people harm themselves at a rate that exceeds deaths in pregnancy related to physical complications. You have to discontinue many psychiatric drugs in pregnancy because they are not safe for the fetus. Pregnant people lack mental health support and are often shamed for struggling with their mental health or doing activities that could harm their pregnancy like continuing to use drugs and alcohol.

I am certain the anti-abortion crowd would jump to blame pregnant victims of suicide for harming their ‘unborn baby’ but pregnancy is not just a state of being a vessel. Pregnant people are people and their personhood and needs are often ignored and their body is treated like it is not their own. Abortion restrictions will result in more deaths in pregnancy and not more live babies born and the blood is on your hands if you refuse to acknowledge that.

I’m pro third trimester abortion. They never ever happen for shits and giggles but pro-life weirdos are always like “When does a baby become a person to you? What if a pregnant woman decides she doesn’t want to have the baby at 32 weeks?” idgaf. In this hypothetical, she should be allowed to waddle her pregnant self in for a termination if she wants to. Cryptic pregnancies when you only find out you’re pregnant 6+ months in are the scariest fucking thing I can imagine, the only other alternate to abortion in that situation for me would be suicide. Late term abortions are almost always because the pregnant party is dying or the fetus is incompatible with life but if there is anyone out there who does make it 7 months and goes “Nah, not feeling it.” I think they should be allowed an abortion. No doctor is going to do that so it’s a non-issue but as a hypothetical, I support it. My controversial hot take but I am not playing games with these people anymore.

depression is really one of the most obnoxious things to deal with. really difficult to articulate that you’ve been struggling to do the dishes because you’re too busy trying not to kill yourself without it coming off like a manipulative excuse. almost easier to just be like “I’m an unrepentant nasty slob and I love living like this.” than admitting you are not a functioning human being and have no idea what to do to make it better.
