two page style test for Wolves of Danu! Just to see how it feels.
[[MORE]]The perfect time to post these is during the middle of the night, while the entire western hemisphere is fast asleep lmao
If you recognize this sequence, it’s because we did this same test already over a year ago–right after coming off Woven. I’m actually kinda glad that our burnout kept us off the project at the time, because they style we were test driving back then was not very suitable for the kinda story we want to tell.
Fast forward to today, and we’re definately feeling better about this one! Not only does it suit the victorian vibes a lot more [the previous version had a very stark “film noir” kind of feel that was too contemporary imo], but it’s also just the most fun I’ve had drawing comic panels in a long, long time. Like–hell yeah, I can draw 3 whole books like this, let’s goooo!!(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و ̑̑

hhh 20 chapters outlined in this ~40 chapter book 1 for Wolves of Danu. It’s shaping up pretty well, I think!
I gotta have this bugger done by the first week of May, cuz after that, I’m in mexico for a few weeks, and then we come home and start working on the actual pages!!
Patrons should be seeing the first pages of chapter 1 before my birthday!!

Was really excited to play this character because the opportunity to play a Tyrant champion doesn’t come up often. I was going to take the Marshall archetype for Fear synergy. But it didn’t work out. Maybe another time!

I downloaded csp today after getting fomo over a really, really nice hatching brush after finding absolutely nothing even halfway decent for photoshop.
I haven’t used the hatching brush yet, but I did find a nice lil pencil brush and pen brush and started noodling around with a quick lil’ Áine sketch just to see how much my brain would scream and shit itself over having to learn a new interface and toolset. Amazingly, it went pretty ok! I didn’t hate it!!
so I’m gonna try a do a more srs black and white illustration with a peculiar clergyman, and see how that treats me.

Wolves of Danu is the comic where I stop pretending that I want to draw anything other than dark haired bespectacled men with Problems.

His friends theorize that he retreats to his Cornwall estate so frequently because he is secretly some kind of prolific author writing books under a pseudonym that they are constantly trying to uncover. The quiet, seabreezy Cornish countryside is the perfect place to lock in and focus on writing brilliant works of fiction, after all. And it’s well known that Lomair is an avid reader, so…

Certainly! Áine [and her mother] are constantly on the move. While her mother was around, their lives revolved around poaching and squatting within the woodlands, which are all owned by some wealthy family or another.
Staying in one place for too long is dangerous for them–not so much for the chance of being caught by land owners, but rather because they quickly attract the attention of their fairer neighbours; creatures that do well at remaining unseen by ignorant eyes but emerge to sate their centuries-long hunger. The…what we’d call “magic” of the land has long dried up, and so those fair folk who once sustained themselves off of it have long since been driven mad by starvation and wander now only in the hopeless pursuit to find any small morsel of that old magic that remains to be devoured. It’s a magic that exists now only in the veins of the sage lineages from which Áine and her mother have descended from.
Áine’s mother is no longer with her by the start of the story, and so Áine has been living under the guidance of her aunts–who’ve been setting her up and sending her out to find a wolf that may serve to protect them. It’s been a long search, but she’s finally found a very promising lead😌
At the start of the story, she’s in the middle of a short-lived employment as a scullery maid at an O'Faolain estate in Cornwall.
