@jescollects I had this dream a little while after drawing fanart of Hellbitch so that might be why :B

Some choice panels from The Gifts of Darkness that I have previously used as the comic update previews. I can just dump some of them here for a low effort post about my comic. Well, the post is low effort. The art – not exactly.

Looking in the update previews folder I realize, in almost all of them, Val looks sweet and smiling… which is literally his chosen presentation to hide all of his sadness. Oh, the thematic irony.

Now with hard subs for those less fluent in metal because the lyrics are essential and you gotta follow.

Just so you know, this hits like a megaton bomb past the 2:00 mark but you need the buildup, so hold on for the full ride!

From 2023 actually. I didn’t like the colors at the time. Why not?? Anyway, now it has been rescued from the darkness of the art archive folders.

I’ve completed writing the full draft of The Gifts of Darkness!

It’s all fully down! I have written everything I wanted to say about Val and Adrien and how their story ends! I may still want to do some minor edits before we get into comic form, but even if I die tomorrow (HEY WHAT NO), you would still be able to read the completed story as my friends tearfully release it at my funeral!

Now for the

STATS!

• 12 years of writing! It was my decision that, although I knew how the story in general would flow and how it would end long before now (and long before I started transforming this novel-draft into a comic), I would continue writing the draft as I worked on the comic, just so that the story could grow with me as an artist and writer over time, and also so that I could remain immersed in this story for as long as I wanted to. This has been good for me, and I’ve enjoyed the process. But now I’m ready to wrap it up and move on to other fiction drafts.
• 41 chapters! (That means the comic is currently about 2/3 done!)
• 163k words!
• The last 17k of which were mostly written in the span of 4 days (though they had been heavily outlined and I had lots of pre-written snippets that I stitched within these parts).
• According to my heuristic of 150 words per comic page, the story translates to about 1000 total pages of comic! (help) (kidding, I enjoy making the comic)
• Approximately 10.000 cups of coffee so far if I counted right! More to come, if my stomach doesn’t completely abandon me!
• The word “time” appears 465 times in the draft.
• The word “darkness” appears 98 times.
• The word “asshole” appears 3 times.

Also this is how I told the news to Denise:

Me: AAAAA! I am DONE with the whole draft!
Denise: WOOOOOH???
Me: I have a migraine.
Denise: We should celebrate tomorrow!
Me: Yeah! Take me to the hospital. I MEANT – THE BAR
