inb4 “So we proposed a change recently, and you guys spoke up very clearly to let us know how you felt. And we heard you! That’s why *even stupider idea presented with the cadence of a ‘cool youth pastor’ who grew up feral in a mall Apple store*
it rules how tumblr, a site that continues to barely survive entirely on the backs of its users who like that it’s different from other social media, is trying every day to make itself a worse, less popular version of every other social media site.
when the tumblr update is so utterly garbage it makes you unironically consider the option of moving back to reddit
it might be impossible to keep track of harassment and keep yourself safe now but at least when one of the million obnoxious zionist lib possums-in-the-tardis blogs on this website leaves the stupidest comment you’ve ever read on your post they get to feel like they achieved something
These cuffs that keep a sub on tip toes are my current obsession

They’re sure to make any chase short :)

I’ve watched porn less suggestive than this technical description of a 3d print
actually you know what? staff doesn’t read posts
It’s to be expected as part of the capitalist death spiral, really, but it truly is hilarious just how disconnected from material reality a lot of recent tumblr updates have been. It beholds a sort of “spherical cow in a frictionless vacuum”-based methodology in which “more popular social media sites than us have this feature, ergo, we can attract their users by replicating them 1:1” is a logical thought form and not pure fallacy. Even ignoring the realities of user retention, appeal in uniqueness, and the popularity of the actual features being copied, it requires a sort of Maxwell’s Daemon-esque exchange in which users will leave an established service for an imitator that offers no additional benefits.
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you’ll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog’s author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn’t add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn’t lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we’re only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be… a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
tossing in my two cents, the site’s format literally does not support this at all. not in the sense of “this is a ui issue that can be resolved in some years time” but in the sense that the basic functions of this site will not work if you do this
while I can see how you would come up with this idea, it should have died the first time someone tried to operate their dashboard in testing. consider what it looks like when someone opens a post and sees no replies, and now consider that the majority of posts will look like this
because of how this displays, every new user will assume the site is dead and leave
me when I break core functionality in order to pander to the single most annoying type of user on this site
seriously, who in the world was bemoaning the unfairness of not getting “”“credit”“” for the notes on a reblog chain. tumblr notes are literally worse than worthless!!! one of the most requested features for years was a button to mute the notes on a post!!!
tumblr staff adjusting a dial to fine-tune exactly how much they’re imitating twitter while occasionally looking back at their userbase for approval except the userbase is just booing the entire time “we hate twitter” “why do you even have that dial”
Making reblog chains their own post is a fucking insane idea what is staff smoking. Removing core Tumblr features.

This is horrible I can’t see the number of notes on my posts at all without adding up everything in the chain
Cursed cursed cursed evil evil evil
This is a terrible idea. Horrible.
EXTREMELY BAD HOLY FUCK.
This would kill the entire point of the reblog chain. Staff, please, don’t do this. It will transform the reblog chain in just plain twitter quotes.
Seriously, this is a tumblr-killer feature. This breaks the most fundamental way tumblr is different from any other social network. This makes tumblr just another blueskytwitterthreads. Or worse: An unfederated mastodon clone.
Please, stop this. Please, don’t roll this out.
Please, mutuals, post about this, comment and reblog the original post (while you still can without making it your own quote-post). I don’t know if staff is looking or if the feedback would matter, but seriously, this is a terrible change that would kill tumblr as we know it. Please, don’t roll it out.
look, I can endure any kind of UI changes that are supposed to help tumblr-rookies to understand how this works. They may be a nuisance, but that’s ok, we have x-kit or we can get used to buttons being here or there.
But this. This changes the data architecture. This changes the SINGLE THING that makes tumblr the “… yes and” website. This KILLS THE COLLABORATIVE POSTING THAT MAKES THIS SITE DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER MEDIA PLATFORMS.
Please, don’t do this. Please, don’t ship this.
Things that will never make me think less of someone: Enjoying media, entertainment, or aesthetics with ideologically reactionary elements
Things that will IMMEDIATELY make me think less of someone: Insisting that the ideologically reactionary media, entertainment, or aesthetics they enjoy are actually Le Hecking Epic Wholesome Leftist Praxis
To draw upon a semi-recent Discourse topic, if you encounter a claim along the lines that, idk, for example, the imagery and cultural idea of Knights as it exists in pop culture is entrenched with a long history of islamophonia (due to how much of this cultural imaginary comes directly from the narrative of the Crusades) and your response is “I still think knight imagery is cool, I don’t enjoy things based on how ideologically correct they are” I’ll respect you infinitely more than if your response was “Actually liking knights is leftist because there’s nothing more leftist than protecting those weaker than you”
“I don’t engage with this thing to have my politics parroted back at me” will always be 1000x more graceful and productive than trying to argue that everything you like is Fundamentally Leftist, Actually.

“The conman who’s lying to and underpaying his 14-year-old employee is the moral compass of the whole series” makes it sound like Mob Psycho 100 is so universally filled with amoral characters that a conman ranks as the most ethical.
This is not true. Mob Psycho 100 is full of many moral characters. It’s just that the conman who’s lying to his 14-year-old employee is such a unique and brand-new type of fictional guy that he achieves being a liar and a conman and a moral compass all at the same time with absolute consistency and zero contradiction.
#he will happily lie through his teeth to tell you exactly what you need to hear to fix your life and he will do it again #he will own up to his mistakes and apologize to you live on television while being grilled about psychic powers he’s pretending to have #he will go along with being mistaken as the boss of your world-domination organization and also call u a fucking loser for kidnapping kids #he will lie every step of the way to his customers but he won’t take payment unless he believes he actually provided value #he is underpaying a 14-year-old #Reigen the man that you are
i mean i think the main thing there is that UR, as opposed to alo, is emotionally *real* to asuna in the same way the underworld or indeed sao itself was
the blue is asuna unbounded by consequences, she’s playing
the red is when it’s real, when there’s consequences
basically she’s locking in
I’m gonna propose “I guess you haven’t read the silmarillion then :/” as a default response to anyone not understanding a reference to something obscure. even if it’s not remotely Tolkien related. I want to build up a perception that perhaps the sum total of human knowledge is contained in the silmarillion
This is the polar opposite of this:

put three f/f ships you like in the tags. doesnt matter how obscure or embarrassing the media, go for it. and no, your m/m ship doesnt count as women
