HOW ELSE IS THE SKULL OF JUDGEMENT SUPPOSED TO SEE AN ENTIRE CONVERSATION BETWEEN PEOPLE ROLEPLAYING AS THE BAND RAMMSTEIN IN THE SKULL OF JUDGEMENT’S NOTES
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you’ll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog’s author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn’t add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn’t lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we’re only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be… a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
It’s very clear that you all have strong feelings about Tumblr and about this change. We hear you. The passion people have for how Tumblr works is one of the things that makes this place special.
As this rolls out over the next few days and you explore it, we’ll keep reading your replies and reblogs, so please keep sharing your questions, concerns, and ideas.
Your creativity has always been the heart of Tumblr, whether you’re the original poster or adding something brilliant in the reblogs, and nothing about this change is meant to limit that.
If you’d like to talk directly beyond the comments, leave a reply and we’ll follow up with as many of you as we can. We want to work with you to make Tumblr better.
animated Firefly reboot is happening; what are the odds there are still no Asian people in it?
personally I think the most likely outcome is some conspicuously high profile Asian actors voicing guest roles to Address The Issue while the main cast continues to swear in mangled Chinese
they’re gonna be like “wow it’s so great to have a chance to rectify this glaring oversight from the original series” like Chinese people didn’t exist in 2002 and Joss Whedon simply had no choice but cast white people as the Tam siblings
our protagonist will of course still be an embittered space confederate but that’s a whole other can of worms
I don’t believe in christian babies. I believe in babies, i believe in christians, but a baby doesn’t have the agency and cognitive abilities required to chose and/or live a faith. There’s babies of christian parents, of course, as well as babies that have been introduced into the system that is the christian church, but that does not make them christian yet.
Long story short, i did not hit a christian baby into the stratosphere, officer.
Thank you all for being a patron of the Wonderful Funny Circus, coming from far and wide for so many years to see our wonderful funny clowns. Since we are the only operating circus that has such wonderful funny clowns, we know how much you come to our circus specifically to see them, and to laugh and have fun in a way that, simply put, no other circus can offer. We have decided to executed the clowns
me, really tired, reading that post about the UI change: yeah, that sounds bad, I’m too tired to really understand it but seems like bullshit
me, two minutes later, seeing this:

oh. oh I see.
that is BONKERS awful.
Yeah that’s…bad. I’m reblogging with text so we can continue to see how this bs operates but. Yikesickles on bicycles.
i dont usually get sleep paralysis but this morning i had the EXTREMELY COOL AND FUN hallucination that there was an invisible force pressing down on me and strange shapes starting to flicker in my vision, with the unshakeable knowledge that if i fell asleep again the force would consume my soul and take over my body completely
why is all my shit so weird and existential why cant i hallucinate spooky man like everyone else
let’s be real the best tumblr has EVER looked was the short span of time where you could slap code into posts and we had classics like these

tumblr has never been closer to the core aesthetic and sense of humor of its userbase
shoutouts to the now second most busted update tumblr has ever done

other way around the current update is worse
did you know there’s a day-by-day timeline of the plot in the dungeon meshi adventurer’s bible and TODAY is when it all kicks off
ALTHonestly it’s nice how the update strikes a balance between appealing to the discourse-mongering QRTer and the karma-obsessed r/196er. Who we all know are the two best demographics to cater online spaces around
Glibness aside it’s frustrating that “separating reblog chains into distinct entities within a post” is something with the potential to actually be useful. Being able to block/report users interacting with specific chains on my posts featuring doxxing, harassment, etc. is something I’ve wanted in the past. But from their description this just seems like a really really bad way of implementing that (by superseding one of [tumblr]’s core appeals)
Like, I don’t understand why it can’t just be “if you’ve added to a post then you and OP receive notifications for interactions with that post”. That’s how replies work already, and it’d do the job of encouraging interaction more (which is presumably the motivation behind this change?). That subtle difference would (imo) make this a wholly positive change.
But separating out notes to make it more like every comment is an entire new post seems like it’s only designed to appeal more to engagement-bait and gimmick accounts. and if spam bots are a problem now then I can’t see this making it any better. y'know
Also insane that this change completely breaks self-reblog chains (like this very post, for example). Like if I want to read responses to what I wrote here I have to look in eight different places minimum now. And reading responses to what I post is surely like, the whole point of social media posting
aw man. this is gonna destroy the ability to have conversations on posts if you can only see THE NEXT DIRECT REPLY. like, if i say something, and someone replies, and then someone else builds off of that, i guess i just dont get to see that? why. people keep saying twitter but afaik thats not even how twitter works.
tumblr staff adjusting a dial to fine-tune exactly how much they’re imitating twitter while occasionally looking back at their userbase for approval except the userbase is just booing the entire time “we hate twitter” “why do you even have that dial”
he or she or they. No preference.
I’m actually just a boring cis, but I don’t like to reveal which type, so as to keep my enemies on their toes.
im adopting the ‘dark jock’ aesthetic. i’m going to lurk around crumbling old institute buildings in a black tanktop with a skull on it and a backwards ballcap and i’m going to get dark academia people to write my essays for me while i call them nerds and doofuses and prep for the big dark football game
The most obsession inducing trait a character can have for me is knowing somewhere in their heart That They Are A Bad Kid
This isn’t necessarily literal. It can apply to characters who aren’t children too. But there’s something about characters who are either certain of the fact, or terrified of the possibility, that they are just fundamentally wrong and bad at their core
It is also important to me that it is not true. No one is fundamentally broken and evil.
The idea of alien aesthetics has always been one that’s under-explored in movies. The audience needs to know right away if these are the good guys! The ships should look sleek and futuristic! Never mind the fact that cultures on Earth have wildly different ideas about what looks good, never mind what actual aliens might think.
Sure, the Borg have a cube, and that’s very clever of them. It looks very alien and unappealing to us — and also it’s practical since nothing needs to be streamlined if it stays in a friction-free environment.
But there’s more potential than that. Even just color scheme: there’s a post somewhere about wanting to see alien warriors who consider pink & pastel to be the most intimidating, or diplomats who project a calm dignity in their neon camo patterns, and to that I say YES.
Spaceships could be shaped like anything. Maybe an alien culture thinks it’s good luck for their vessels to resemble food items, to invite fortune and keep their food from spoiling on long voyages. Humans would find this funny. Humans would have to work to keep from laughing when presented with a shiny new warship built in their honor — the UES Slice Of Pizza. Some humans would hate this intensely, while others consider it the best thing ever.

okay, alright, you got me clickbait articles on the firefox homepage, this IS exactly the content i want to see
I think the university course database should have a filter to only show classes taught by extremely old people who are insane
me looking up the definition of a word i totally know the meaning of i just have to make sure it didn’t change for some reason or i made it up

mercy was never an option

tranq dart engraved with “i have a suggestion”
“i think [celebrity] is secretly a ditto” boring, unoriginal, rooted in ableism, trite
“i think [celebrity] is secretly a Klingklang” better, still a conspiracy but paying dues to undervalued objectmon
“i think my boss is secretly Darkrai, Mythical Pokémon of Nightmares and Darkness” bingo
wanting to vent a bit/being worried about privacy will have you posting like i’m dealing with issues and problems. situations have happened to me. and there are emotions i’m experiencing about this. or not. gotta keep ‘em on their toes.
