I hate but also find it amusing that people view me as someone who doesn’t like physical affection in general, doesn’t enjoy talking to others, doesn’t ever fall in love … like it’s funny but the hell you mean I hate hugs… where did you get that from. it’s annoyinghggg

fun fact tumblr hasn’t crashed for me but the music i don’t listen to that i’m listening to right now has Noises and they always seem to time perfectly for when i scroll down and i keep becoming Alarmed and thinking my tumblr is making those noises. also some posts are doing the new reblog thing and some aren’t. staff give us our reblogs back.

i’ve noticed that there are two ways of writing characters who aren’t quite right in the head. (not very short shorthand for neurodivergent and/or mentally ill??? “neurodivergent and/or mentally ill” is so long and boring and also possibly does not encompass the entire spectrum of what i’m talking about. like there are levels of Issues that don’t go all the way to a disorder proper idk how politically correct it gets guys they’re not real people anyway.)
one of them i will call the backwards construction method, for convenience. writer starts by saying, this character has an issue called so and so. writer does research. so and so has such and such symptoms. writer writes such and such characteristics into this character, possibly incorporates them into character development, etc etc.
the other one i will call forwards construction. writer starts with, this is a methodology of thought that explains this character’s actions. this is something they do in their head. this is how they think. this is how they make sense with and/or cope with the world at large. something like that. writer looks back at what they did to their character. wow, that’s fucked up. oops?
now. i tend to find that forwards-constructed characters are more internally consistent than backwards-constructed ones. does this make them better “representation”? sure, if you can figure out what they’re “represent"ing. what is the chance you figure out anything beyond It Needs Therapy?
