Walker S03E12 Best Laid Plans

  • Wait.. the DPS hiring fired Trey so how did Cap James manage to pull this off as a con?
  • Ya i like James’ character too
  • Interesting that the message that pops in on Andrews phone is very military coded
  • product promotion: Pixma.. this was one done subtley
  • Liam to August’s prop photo booth idea: why would you put mustache on horses?
  • August: you guys are enemies of innovation 🤣
  • Were they planning on making Julia and Cordi a thing? Because it feels like that
  • Favors are currency. Amen to that Kevin!
  • oh I just noticed that when Kevin places the name tags on the table, there’s a card that reads ‘Grey’ as the last name. If this was supposed to be foreshadowing for the future, I gotta say it was nice!!
  • Those Shirley temples look good 😍
  • Cordell’s house looks a lot like Jared’s house
  • Oh ya they did make Cordell and Julia happen
  • So nobody told Trey not use real names when working undercover?
  • Was that 'you okay?’ to Julia post sex big dick energy?? 😏
  • You know Cordell’s 'good’ was a lot like Soulless Sam energy after from the third episode when the hooker says 'last night was a high point’
  • Ya Cassie stop butting in
  • Coop’s twist was good and the torn flag shot

This is where we leave the Walker Household until next season. In Spring she managed to get herself promoted all the way up to lvl 6 - General Practitioner of the medicine career and open up Afterlife Clinical Care.

It also looks like her friendship with Emmett Nesbit is turning into something more, but she doesn’t want to ruin the relationship they already have if things were to not work out. To calm her nerves she does she does best, picks up a book.

‘Anyway, let me make you some sandwiches before your night shift.’

'Oh, uh - you really don’t have to Emmett. Just your company is lovely enough.’

'Shush. You need someone to look after you too, you know?’

'No no, that’s too much to ask. I-’

'Let me help you, Marg. I want to.’

The next day, one of Margot’s closest friend Emmett came by to make sure she wasn’t working herself too hard. He’s the only one that can bring out a fun side of her, usually trying to rip her away from a book when she’s got a spare five minutes is near impossible.

‘How’s the clinic?’

'Great, I’m pleased to be able to have an actual office to help people now. The phone calls were getting a bit excessive. Have you got the restaurant set up yet?’

'Ugh, not even close. I just can’t afford it, and Ike won’t help. Said that a restaurant 'isn’t a matter of urgency’, I beg to differ! I’m sure everyone’s getting sick of cooking their own fish.’

'You could always move in, I earn enough to pay rent for both of us. Oh! I’m sorry that must’ve sounded so boastful.’

'No no! You deserve to brag Marg, you work so hard.’

’… thank you, Emmett.’

Alright so I really wanna do a watch through thing where I watch a show for the first time and post my comments on every episode. I kinda wanted to do it on Supernatural but I know too many spoilers, so I’m gonna do something else. So. I can either do it on The Boys or Walker after the first three episodes (because I watched them already), because I really don’t know what they’re about in the long run. Which shall I do, oh you people who might possibly read my words?

Walker: Things of Blood And Shadow

Summery: The Walker Family has kept an old pact for centuries, a secret is passed down from generation to generation. It’s only when Clint West brings his gang to the Walker Ranch that the secret is exposed as a desperate attempt to save the Walker family.

Rating: T for canon typical violence and behavior

It was the weekend and most of the staff had the day off. Except for me. The summer heat was making it especially hard for me to find a cool place to wait out until the evening. Luckily, my job took place in the evening when it was cooler and the thick rays of sunshine gave way to thin slivers of moonlight.

It was my preferred time of the twenty-four hour cycle. Not that I couldn’t go out in the sun, I just preferred if I didn’t have to. Working in a ranch in Texas as a vampire sucked sometimes. And yeah, I did just make a pun.

The gunshot had my head rising from the book I was reading. I dropped my book without marking the page, and sped out of the cellar that had been my home for the last forty years. I grabbed my hat from the peg and jammed it on my short dark hair as I launched myself into the sun.

I hissed, grateful for the long-sleeve flannel and undershirt that I wore that protected me against the hard rays of the sun. As I got closer to the ranch house, I could smell it. Blood.

I was hoping that it had been target practice and had been prepared to figure out what was happening before quickly retreating into the background. But now I was on edge. Someone had been shot.

There were several cars in the driveway, almost all of them unfamiliar to me, except for Emily’s convertible, Liam’s sedan, and the family minivan. I forced myself to slow and take cover behind one of the cars. I peeked around the wheel well and the smell of the blood hit me at full force again. Instinct had me taking a eyes- closed, full, deep breath of that heavenly smell.

I might have been able to identify whose blood it was if I’d tasted it before, but that wasn’t the kind of arrangement my forebears had made with the Walker family, so I wasn’t able to identify any of them by the smell of their blood.

I forced my instincts to the background and opened my eyes. I saw Liam lying on the ground, a pool of blood rapidly forming underneath him. “Damnit.” I growled.

My sensitive ears picked up another strange step at the front gate and by the loud noises coming from inside the house, that was where they’d taken the rest of the family. Whoever that happened to be. I would have to be sneaky.

I kept my head down and my body low to the ground as I crept my way across the driveway to Liam’s side.

Up close, the smell of blood was overwhelming. I clenched my jaw, keeping my lips firmly shut to avoid letting my fangs descend. There would be more blood spilled today that I could partake in, if the smells in the air were anything to go by.

I didn’t have to touch him to know that he was still alive. His pulse still jumped in his neck and I could hear his heart beating as my instincts honed in on a potential meal. I hadn’t been able to go out yet and resupply from the blood bank. And I was hungry.

I shook myself out of the blood haze. I needed something to stop the bleeding. That something would be in the barn. I had to get Liam into the barn. It would cool, it would be hidden. I could be fast and try to avoid thinking about how hungry I was.

I reached for the younger Walker when I heard the click of a rifle cocking from behind me. I had been so focused on the man in front of me that I’d forgotten to pay attention to my surroundings. I was getting rusty being out here for so long.

I put my hands into the air and took an inhale. A familiar smell hit me, one of cattle, hay, and Abby’s perfume. I knew who this was.

“Don’t.” Bonham Walker’s deep baritone warned me.

I turned slightly so he could see my face. “Mr. Walker, it’s Isabella, I work for you.”

The rifle lowered slightly and I turned fully around. But by then, Bonham had noticed it was Liam lying on the ground. The rifle wobbled as it lowered.

“Liam?” He said in shock and surprise.

“He’s alive.” I said as Bonham fell to his knees, checking Liam over. As if on cue, Liam moaned and took another deeper breath.

“Daddy? I’m bleeding.” Liam said weakly. He was very quickly going into shock.

“I was just about to get him into the barn.” I suggested.

“Yeah, come on.” Bonham said, already hauling Liam up onto his shoulder. We hurried to the barn and made it there without incident. We got Liam down on the couch and I grabbed the first aid kit, passing things to Bonham so I don’t have to right beside the blood.

“How many of them are there?” Bonham asked as he worked quickly to stop the bleeding.

“I don’t know.” I replied. “I got to the house just before you did.”

“I thought that everyone was gone for the weekend.”

“I needed some rest before heading into town so I was in the bunkhouse.” I replied, hedging the fact that I actually had been in the cellar that only he and his ancestors knew about. There had always been a vampire on the Walker property since the early 1900s.

“Keep pressure on that.” Bonham ordered me and I did as I was bade, pressing down on the gunshot wound on Liam’s shoulder. He groaned in pain, but I didn’t let up the pressure, knowing that this was the best way for a human doctor to be able to fix this later.

Bonham grabbed his cell phone and dialed before I could say anything. The conversation with Cordell’s new partner came through loud and clear to my sensitive ears. Bonham pulled the phone away as the dial tone sounded.

My nostrils flared as I smelled the scent of another man that I didn’t know. But what I did know is that he carried a gun. I could smell the gunpowder. I debated telling Bonham, but knew that a gunshot was going to give us away.

I could hear the stranger’s heartbeat as he got closer and I made my decision. I waited until the man stepped inside the barn, his arm coming up, the gun being cocked, pointed at Bonham. I left Liam’s side and sped towards the man, leaving my hat on the floor.

Somewhere in the back of that human prey brain, he registered that something was coming at him. But I caught his arm as he fired and directed the shot towards the ceiling. Then I pulled him towards me and bit into the side of his neck.

I felt his body go limp as my fangs punctured his skin. I pulled his body up, keeping it between me and the entrance to the barn as a shield in case he had more friends with him. I took enough blood to take the edge off my hunger and then snapped his neck as I let the body fall to the floor.

The whole thing had taken less then thirty seconds and I was already wiping the blood from my face with the back of my sleeve as Bonham startled, realizing that someone had entered the barn. Unable to stop myself, I licked some of Liam’s blood off my hands before I turned back to face my benefactor as he reached for the rifle.

I stopped Bonham from raising the rifle with one hand on the barrel. “It’s over. He’s dead.”

Bonham didn’t raise the rifle, but he stepped to the side and looked at the man’s body. “How did you do that?” He asked, turning back to face me.

“I told you, Mr. Walker.” I replied, looking directly into his eyes. “My name is Isabella. I believe your father spoke of me.”

Understanding dawned in Bonham’s eyes as he looked at me. “It’s you.” He breathed. “You’re the one our ancestors made that pact with. The…” He trailed off and I wondered if he’d ever spoken that word out loud before.

“Look, I know that it’s a lot to take in right now.” I said as I went back to Liam’s side. I winced as I saw that the bleeding hadn’t stopped yet, even with the pressure I’d been putting on it. I placed my hand on his shoulder once again, pushing down. “But we need to stop those men inside.”

“Who are they?” Bonham demanded once again.

I shook my head. “I told you the truth. I don’t know. But what I do know is that we can’t leave Liam like this.”

“Calling an ambulance is out of the question.”

“Agreed. He doesn’t have that long.” I looked down at Liam and saw that his eyes were open and he was slightly more aware than he had been before. “You’re going to be alright.” I told him.

Bonham realized who was I talking to and came over. He grabbed Liam by the other shoulder. “I’ve got you, son.” He told him. “We’re going to find a way out of this.”

“I can help him.” I said, drawling Bonham’s attention back up to me. “I’m not a doctor, but my blood can heal him.”

Bonham was confused. “Wait, like a transfusion? We don’t have…”

“No. Not a transfusion. He has to drink my blood, but you have to consent to it. It’s one of the rules.”

“The rules.” By the look in his eye, the conversation with his father all those years ago was starting to come back to him. I cursed the pact at that moment. This was taking too long. I needed to make sure they were safe before figuring out what was happening inside the house.

“Look, I only know about you because my daddy told me. I couldn’t believe it when he told me and even now seeing you standing in front of me, I still can’t believe it. If you’ve been here for all this time, why don’t I remember you?”

“You aren’t supposed to remember me.” I told him. “It’s for your protection, but the more time you spend with me, the less that works.”

“Right. And I’m just supposed to trust you?”

“You shouldn’t ever trust me.” I was quick to tell him. “That’s in the rules too. But I can help you and only you can make the decision.”

Bonham looked down at his son again, who had slipped back into semi-consciousness. “Will it make him like you?”

“No.” I replied. “Tomorrow, I can tell you everything, but we don’t have much time.”

“Do it.” Bonham replied firmly.

“Look away.” I told him, before I quickly bit my wrist, drawing blood. I held it over Liam’s mouth. A few drops dripped onto Liam’s lips as I froze, my hearing picking up heartbeats coming towards us.

I pulled my wrist away and turned towards the entrance to the barn. I could smell them by now. Abby’s perfume, and two more male scents, both smelled of gunmetal and reeked of adrenaline. My wrist stopped dripping as the wound closed.

Bonham turned and reached for the rifle, but it was too late as Clint West stepped into view, his gun firmly pressed against the side of Abby’s head. She was scared and rightly so. Clint’s heartbeat was rock steady. He knew what he was doing.

I debated how quickly I could snap his neck, but I needed to know more. I needed to have more information before I made my move. Besides, I would be risking not only Abby’s life, but Bonham’s and Liam’s as well if things didn’t go my way.

The second man would shoot me, I could see that as I continued to look between Clint and the second gunman. I would be exposed if I took on Clint, and if the other man shot me, he could very well shoot Abby at the same time. And I still didn’t know how many more of them were inside the house.

A vampire rampage wasn’t exactly in line with the subtle approach I was supposed to be taking at the ranch. The pact that governed the relationship between the Walker family and mine directly forbade that. So I stood my ground, kept pressure on Liam’s wound and waited.

It was inevitable that they were going to separate us. Abby as a hostage was meant to ensure our cooperation and it worked. I avoided Bonham’s eye as the four of us were forced to walk back into the house, Bonham and I carrying Liam between us, and Clint following behind with Abby in tow.

I let the one of the two men in the dining room take Liam from me. I barely managed not to hiss at him. I hoped that the blood had been enough to help Liam heal, maybe more slowly but still faster then a normal human at least.

Bonham fought them, but Cordell quickly put that notion to rest. Once Abby and Bonham were seated, Clint turned his eye on me, taking in my bloody hands and shirt.

I hid my face, hide my instincts and tried to sink back into that don’t look at me, I’m just a normal human. Harder without my hat, harder now that I had fresh blood in my system. Most vampires have an aura about them that draws people and I knew that I was no exception to that rule.

I side eyed the gun at my back, held by yet another gunman. That made one dead in the barn, one in the bedroom with Liam, another one at the gate, and this idiot. Three living, and Clint.

“Who’s this?” Clint asked. “Another stray?”

He looked at Cordell as he spoke. I knew that the confused look on the eldest Walker’s face was not fake. He didn’t know who I was because I had tried to keep them all from knowing who I was.

The magic that governed the pact was ancient and weird at the best of days. It basically ensured that no one would notice me as I went about my business. If they spent time with me, they would know who I was, but it also meant that they would ignore anything strange that they saw. The only person that didn’t apply to was the eldest Walker in the room, which was Bonham by blood. Once he realized who I was, the magical shield disappeared. Anything that I did would not go unnoticed by Bonham Walker.

“Isabella.” I said aloud, raising my eyes to look the criminal in the face, drawing his attention, and the whole rooms, back towards me. “I work for Bonham Walker.”

That declaration meant nothing to him, but it meant everything to me. To let him know who was going to be responsible for his death. And if his appreciative leer was enough to go by, he hadn’t been expecting someone like me. “Well, Isabella ‘I work for the Walkers,’ you’re not supposed to be here today.”

“I know, lucky me.” I drawled.

“For the record, neither I am.” Hoyt chimed in. “You’re going to let us go? Seeing as we’re not supposed to be here and all?”

Clint just chuckled. “Draw up a chair, Isabella and join the fun. Where’s that rope, Trevor?”

The man behind me shoved me in the back. I faked stumbling forward, already knowing that he was going to touch me as his heartbeat increased, the blood rushing to his muscles. Clint released August, sending him to the bedroom to join Liam and sat me down in his chair.

I almost laughed as my hands were bound with rope. Rope of all things! Handcuffs would have been harder to break out of but rope was child’s play.

I tried to ignore the banter that taking place around me, the guns that were being thrown around and tried to figure out who and where everyone was. It was hard, the stink of fear and adrenaline in the room were clouding everything. I wrinkled my nose and then froze as Clint pointed the gun at Bonham.

Hoyt managed to diffuse the situation by being the bait and luckily it worked to put Clint’s focus on Cordell.

Abby leaned towards me as Clint turned away. “Please tell me you’re here to help.”

“Yes.” I replied just as quietly as I watched Clint and Cordell talk. “I’m here to help.”

WALKER

Clint sent Hoyt and Cordell to rob the bank, let Stella go help Auggie in the back bedroom with Liam which left Bonham, Abby, and I at the dining room table, with the lone remaining gunman. Clint had already made the phone call to the police so at this point we were just biding time.

I wiggled in my seat, but unfortunately my hands were in pain view of the gunman who stood against the kitchen island. As Clint talked, Bonham shot me a pointed look. I shook my head.

Clint roamed around the dining room. He commented on the Wyatt Eryp photo, opened drawers, and generally made small talk. Then he found the pain pills. Now he was interested all of a sudden in uncovering and laying bare all the secrets of the Walker family.

“Now when I had a wife, I told her everything.” Clint said, turning away from Abby and looked at me, directing Abby’s gaze over to me. “Kinda makes you wonder what else he’s hiding, doesn’t it?”

Abby shot me a glance. I could hear her heartbeat increase as Clint kept talking.

“I mean think about it. I’ve been puzzling over where you fit into this picture, Isabella, and it’s the only thing that makes any sense. No one has a ranch hand as pretty as you, sweetheart. Are you screwing the old man?”

Bonham startled at the accusation. “Now look here…”

But I interrupted him. “Something to keep puzzling, sweetheart.” I glazed back at Clint, daring him to make a move.

He laughed at me. “Well that wasn’t a no.” He chuckled as he walked over to stand behind me. “Oh man. Now that’s a bold move, Bonham Walker. Keeping your mistress close to your wife like that.” He leaned down and shoved the barrel of the gun underneath my chin. “Makes me wonder which one of them would hurt you more if I shot them.”

Abby drew in a sharp breath.

But anything further was interrupted by the sound of Liam screaming from the back bedroom. I startled, all my instincts begging me to go go go and stop the thing that was hurting a Walker, the ones under my protection.

The movement didn’t go unnoticed by Clint. “Or are you the almost daughter in law?” He mused. “Either way your boy is going to die. And when he does that makes you expendable, sweetheart.” He threatened me.

I could do nothing but stare back at him and try to stop my true face from showing. Before he turned and left the room.

WALKER

They herded us outside once Hoyt and Cordell returned with the money. Hoyt shot first and sent the night into chaos. I herded the family behind a vehicle, a rock, anything to get them out of the way of the bullets flying.

My night vision made it easy to see who was who and where they were shooting, but with all the gunfire it wasn’t easy to see where I could do the most good.

I vanished into the night and managed to pick off one of the gunmen, but I broke his neck lest anyone see me. I wanted Clint West’s blood, but probably everyone here did to. The shooting stopped and I heard Hoyt yell something. I crept around the back of the truth where Clint was hiding as Hoyt crept around the front.

I heard the knife and then smelled the blood. As Hoyt stumbled back, Clint turned and run. I gave chase, ignoring the screams behind me as they realized what had happened to Hoyt. I grabbed Clint, fang out, reaching for his neck but he turned and fired at me. The bullet bit deep into my shoulder and it burned!

I screeched and stumbled back. It was silver! The son of a bitch was using silver bullets! I caught myself against a tree and dug into my shoulder, yanking the bullet as even as it burned my fingers. I dropped it on the ground, hand shaking just in time for my sensitive ears to hear Clint’s voice and the click of a gun.

“Had to take one from you myself. Now you know how it feels.”

The gunshot gave wings to my feet and I ran. I skidded to a stop in time to see Cordell kick Clint across the driveway and then pummel him against the side of the car. I saw Trevor pull the gun and I tensed, ready to spring into action.

I watched and listened as father and son spoke, but I wasn’t listening to their words. I was listening to their heartbeats, their muscles tensing and releasing. I was watching their body language, waiting, watching for anything that would tell me what was going to happen next.

I watched as Cordell talked down Trevor and got him to put down the gun. Something tugged at the edges of my perceptions. Someone else was here, someone who I’d tasted their blood. I inhaled and looked around into the night. Then I noticed something that no one else did. That Liam had exited the house and was now on the front porch, picking up a gun.

Suddenly my gaze was laser focused on Clint. He scrambled for another weapon, a gun, and I leapt into action. As Clint West turned and fired the bullet the was meant for Cordell Walker, and as Liam fired at the same time, taking Clint West’s life, I dashed in front of Clint’s gun and took that bullet meant for Cordell straight in the gut.

As Cordell felt his body to make sure he hadn’t been shot, I came to a stop behind a parked car with a wince. I landed heavily on my butt, leaning my head back against the side of the car. I hissed. And it was silver again!

Why Clint West had to go all poetic and use silver ammunition to act out his vengeance was beyond me, but it meant that I was going to have a hard time healing from this. I bit back a screech as I dug inside the wound trying to find the bullet. When I finally pulled it out, I dropped it on the ground with a snarl.

Then I vanished into the night as the flickering blue lights of the cops arrived at the Walker Ranch.
