Jay laughed, but Selina was positive that she had never seen him more angry than in this moment.
“Give me a fucking break! You don’t have problems, Selina. You have an unrequited crush on a guy who routinely forgets you even exist! Excuse me for not making enough time to rub your back about it while the world around us is going to shit!”
“Wow…”
Selina sat up straighter and crossed her arms in front of her chest just so that Jay wouldn’t see how badly her hands were shaking. She felt the familiar sting of tears threatening to spill, blinking stubbornly to keep them at bay.
“Well, excuse me for not giving a shit about your take on my love life, when you broke up with your girlfriend weeks ago and didn’t even care enough to tell me about it. Half the girls in here are fawning over you, so don’t pretend like you know what it feels like to be unlucky in love.”
“Believe me, I know what it feels like.”
Suddenly Jay was absolutely calm. No, calm wasn’t the right word. He seemed… defeated. Hopeless. He looked at her and there was something so deeply sad in his eyes that Selina knew that somehow this was worse than his anger.
“It’s ironic that you still don’t get it…”
