The sea is around you and in you.

She couldn’t help but wonder if she would ever be as beautiful as her sister. Somedays Pril would sneak around with Tsireya’s clothes tied tightly around her and pretend to heal her dolls that her father and brothers made with special remedies, just as her sister did.

Fire took the ocean, and then war took the boy. All that’s left is a girl with a blade and a name she still couldn’t kill. A canon-divergent plot taking place after AFAA, in which Tsireya encounters a troubled Mangkwan Lo'ak. 522 words. Masterlist

Death from the skies. War was upon them.
It was a last stance really. Her home in the ocean already taken apart. What remained of her people that fled before the attack had made it to High Camp within Hallelujah mountains with the help of the Omatikaya. Tsireya used the knowledge passed down to her from her mother to keep morale alive while the warriors went out to do all the hard work. Her experience as a Tsahik kept her back with Mo’at.
More new wounded returned each day, it all seemed hopeless.
She’d heard the reports Lo’ak was spotted among the Mangkwan, but the images within the resistance were blurry and he was barely recognizable. She told herself that just so maybe she didn’t need to believe it.
[[MORE]]Calls of warning came and Tsireya knew an evacuation was beginning. Pril was old enough to walk now, though her little legs remained uncoordinated on rough ground. It broke Tsireya’s heart to know her little sister would never know the simple lives they’d once carried. Bundling her up, she urged the younger teens to leave while they could. Head to the extraction point they’d all agreed upon. Keep Pril safe, she begged, please.
Watching them go. Her heart weighed down, she pushed it aside to pick up arms. She wasn’t first defence, but she would ensure those who needed to make it out of there would have the opportunity to do so. Crossbow kicked back in her arm when she struck the first ashen Ikran to charge at her. The Mangkwan diving off in a yelled roll against the ground. Tsireya hissed as she loaded up the bolt a second time. She shot, but the Mangkwan took the bolt to the leg in the dodge.
Closing the gap between them. She was thrown to the ground and the struggle between them commenced. Her knife drove up between his ribs before he could slit her kuru. Her unsteady breath came back all at once as she pushed the spasmed body off her. Watching it go limp at her side, she’d turn to take note of the rest of the scene unravelling before her.
Hell.
Some fires were starting to be lit, but not all their structures had been destroyed yet.
She spotted another slender figure. His walk familiar in a way that unsettled her. Her breathing staggered when she felt like the whole rock was about to come crumbling down. An explosion had caused it to rumble in an ungodly sound, like the world was falling apart, ready to be swallowed up by the planet Prometheus.
Tsireya remained low until it passed. Clinging to the ground below her. Finding her footing again. She charged after another Mangkwan. Running to jump on his back before he’d have time to stop her. Her arms slunk around his shoulders. Her knees hugged at his waist.
Thinking she could drive the knife into his throat but when it came down to it, she found she couldn’t. “Lo’ak, stop!” she snarled instead, hoping his name might give him enough hesitation about killing her when he’d inevitably throw her off.

Night descended slowly over Awa’atlu, delayed by the water that reflected every ray of light. In the darkness, the Water World revealed its full beauty.
You noticed Tsireya. She was sitting at the edge of the bridge, gently splashing her feet in the water. When you came closer, you saw how thoughtful and dreamy she was. You sat down beside her, wrapping your arms tightly around your knees. The sounds around you were quiet and soothing.
“You spent the whole day with our guests,” you began with a soft smile. “Especially with Lo’ak. I saw you two. You’re sweet together.”
“Yes,” she said quietly. “He still has so much to learn.”
“Why did you grow close to him so quickly?”
Tsireya sighed, a faint smile touching her lips.
“I… I just felt a connection right away.”
“A connection?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Like love at first sight,” your friend said softly. “When you look at someone and… you feel shy.”
You thought about it. Your own inner fire sparked—but more gently now, as if remembering yourself in those first days after arriving among the Metkayina.
“I understand,” you said. “It’s a strange feeling—but a pleasant one.”
Tsireya looked at you and nudged your shoulder lightly.
“And what about my brother? Ao’nung?”
You paused, biting your lip.
“He’s… too reckless,” you began carefully. “Sometimes careless. But kind. And there’s something about him that makes you want to look closer.”
Tsireya nodded, her smile growing warmer.
“So you see… potential in him?” she asked quietly but confidently. “He’s still too young and foolish to understand who is standing beside him.”
You turned away, hiding a sly smile and the sparkle in your eyes. A small weakness—but a real one.
“Maybe,” you said softly. “But that doesn’t mean he won’t learn.”
At that moment, Ao’nung himself walked past you. He noticed your smile and stopped.
“What are you laughing about?” he asked, tilting his head in surprise.
You couldn’t help it—your tail curled instinctively toward you, your ears dipped slightly, your nose wrinkled. You looked at him with a cunning expression. In that gaze—fire, warmth, and challenge all at once. Ao’nung remained standing, unable to look away. One second. Two… then he slowly moved on, though his eyes kept drifting back to you.
That sincere, fire-bright smile and your sly, slightly defiant look—he would remember them for a long time.
Warming and scorching at the same time.
it’s finally done! I do like everything about this art: the posture, colors, her face expression 🩵💦

Am I the only one who thinks people obsession with Lo’ak and Tsireya kissing, or more accurately the lack of kissing, really weird?
These are literally 14 year old kids, and yes, I aware people at 14 do kiss, but just because it’s a thing teenagers do doesn’t mean they have to do it.
I’m pretty sure they have more import things going on at the moment.
Y’know, like the war for their home.
Ronal *to Tsireya* : As a future tsahik, you should have high standards for your mate. He needs to be wise, composed, clever…
Lo’ak : *stumbles over his own tail, goes rogue every chance he gets, punches Aonung*
Ronal : …don’t say it.
Tsireya : I want this one.
Ronal : No!

.
I did a couple of watercolors of Tsireya while I was on vacation, and now that I’m back home I finished one of them digitally :D
I’m thinking of making a print of this painting for the next event I go to, and just like last time I’m only going to have one of each design, so in total I’ll have two of Avatar: The Way of Water 👀
