I made it through most of the Monsters Series by Lily Mayne. I’ve DNFed near the end of Book 5, Seraph.

I’ve felt over saturated by this series for a few weeks now. The pacing of these books are extremely slow and while there’s a few scenes with some of my favorite characters (I love Wyn and Danny and Edin and Hunter), the other characters don’t hold much interest for me in terms of their chemistry.

There’s also just long stretches of nothing happening as much of the struggle is internal. This isn’t new at all for the genre, but I think the fact that this is happening in the middle of a wasteland at the collapse of human society makes it extra hard to get through.

That being said, I’ve moved on to Lily Mayne’s other series, The Folk, and have finished book 1, Mortal Skin, and I loved it!

It’s simple, classic fairy/fantasy romance. The world is interesting and a little more fleshed out than the Monsters Series. The pacing is better, the pairing feels like it makes sense (especially by the end) and the sex is passionate and sweet.

There definitely exists a more stable, solid plot that follows through all the way to an exciting promise of the rest of the series.

Known as Soldier Raptor, he is a being created by Guerrero to serve on the battlefield. Guerrero created him using liquid metal, and his weapon can fire nanobot-infused bullets to control the bodies of living, death or machine users, allowing Soldier Raptor to control them with his mind. Being made of liquid metal, he can also take the form of a human. He stands 2.10 meters tall, and his cannon fires hypersonic projectiles and tranquilizer darts. He can destroy walls and armored doors with his cannon. He also has golden bullets called Oscars that, upon contact with a human, transform it into gold and strike the pose of the Oscar awards. Guerrero tells an actor that he likes him; Invoke a spirit, ask it for duality, sacrifice yourself with sleeping pills and you will resurrect on the third day. A woman will emerge from your rib, you will vibrate, ingest semen and then vomit to expel the X chromosome. Then a woman will come out of your rib and then from your heart, all spiritually. Remember what Jesus said: “No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the son of God, and you must make him reincarnate in your body to reach the Father who is in your head. Remember that to make Jesus be born in your body, ingest the liquid with which the son is created so that you expel the mother X. Guerrero tells the pastor: “Your country will be attacked and Trompetas is expelling the immigrants from there. Deep down he knows what he is doing, besides the fact that they are using him, but that will earn him hatred. He is expelling them because the US will be destroyed, so Rudriel will make the US earn the hatred of the whole world.”
